Valentina’s pov

STILL FLASHING BACK

“They promised to raise him like their own.”

Luca stood frozen, eyes wide with disbelief and pain flashing across his face.

“W-when you came to me for help, was…” he took a deep breath and continued. “W–was he still with them?” Luca asked, his voice cracking.

I didn’t answer and my silence stretched between us.

His jaw clenched. “Valentina… answer me.”

Another tear slid down my cheek.

I nodded and said, “Yes.”

Luca staggered back a step like the word physically struck him. He ran a hand through his hair.

His face looked pale, and his eyes were filled with shock and pain.

“You gave our son away?”

“I had to do something and I wasn’t abandoning him,” I said quickly, stepping forward. “I was saving him. From this life. From me. From all of it.”

Luca didn’t speak. His hands were clenched at his sides with his eyes on me.

“You wouldn't understand what a mother can do to protect her child,” I shook my head. “And I don't regret doing it,”

Silvano's Pov“What are we doing next, Silvano?” Antonio asked as I sat in my office chair. The Russians got wind of what we were about to do concerning them and they made every trail we have of them disappear.“Look for the bastard who leaked our information and bring him to me,” I said with anger and Antonio nodded. If I get the mole in my gang, he will wish he had never been born.I turned to Valentina who was standing next to Antonio. “You have a mission in France.Théo Laurent. I want to hear the news of his dismay in the next 24 hours. Harper will fill you in on your new identity and all the information you need to know.” “Silvano, why are you going after Théo?” Valentina asked.“He has dues he hasn't paid,” I answered her, and Giovanni raised a brow to me, asking me what I meant by that, but I removed my eyes from him.“But-”“Do as I say, Valentina,” I snapped at her as she was about to say something else and she nodded.“Okay,” she said and glanced at Harper, who glared at

Valentina’s povI stood by the window of my room, my arms crossed tightly over my chest as I watched the night from my window.I flashed back to my conversation with Luca.BEGINNING OF FLASHBACK“Do you think it is a good idea not to tell them?” Luca asked and I thought about it for a second. “Yes. It is better that way,” I replied as I stared at the door Grace just left. I didn't want her to leave me in the room alone with Luca. That was why I wanted to have the conversation in front of her. I was scared of being in the same room with Luca when we were having this conversation. “What are you afraid of?” He asked and my head snapped to him as his question took me off guard. His calm eyes were searching mine as if they were trying to pull the truth out of me. “I am not afraid,” I lied to him, turning away from him.“You are,” he said gently. “You always do that thing with your fingers when you are either getting excited or you are nervous. And right now it is not excitement, you a

Grace's povSilvano turned slowly, his body tense. “Did you hear that?”I forced a laugh. “Hear what?”“Someone just said something now,” he said to me.“I didn't hear anything,” I said, but he narrowed his eyes at me before turning back to the hall.“It came from one of the rooms here,” he said and I stepped in front of him, placing my hand on his chest. “You said it is only us and your closest members who could access this flour so it's probably nothing,” I said and he nodded. I could tell from his expression that he wasn’t convinced. His jaw ticked, and his eyes drifted back toward the hallway. “You are right. Let's go,” he said, took my hand and we started walking off. I let out a breath silently as he started showing me around the house. The house was big so the tour wasn't fast. I met some of his men who bowed when they saw him.I felt weird seeing them bow as I walked with Vano but I tried looking over it. I passed the room where I encountered Silvano beating up a man, and

Grace's pov “I didn’t mean to interrupt,” he said, moving his eyes from Val to me, his voice calm but edgy.“It is okay,” I said, then remembered what happened earlier when he opened the door. “About earlier, I—” “I didn't see anything,” he said before I could complete what I was saying, smirking at me. “Really? Thank God,” I breathe out in relief. I was wondering how I would be able to look at his eyes but now I am relieved.“But I knew what was going on,” he added and my face started heating up. At least he didn't see anything. Anyone who walked in on us in that position who knew what was going on. “I need to talk to Victoria,” he said, his voice low, tight. “Alone,”“Okay…I will excuse the two of you,” I said, and put my legs on the ground, about to leave the both of them to talk.“Say what you came to talk to me about,” Valentina said, making me stop from standing up from the bed and my eyes moving to Luca.“It is between us. It has nothing to do with her,” Luca said.“She is

Grace's pov“It is not what you think,” I said, taking some clothes to the closet to arrange. “I think it is just what I am thinking,” she said with a tease creeping into her voice. “You are flushed and you are avoiding my eyes which means you are shy to talk about it,”I groaned and covered my face. “Please don’t.”But Valentina laughed. “Relax, Grace. You are not the first woman Silvano has–”She stopped abruptly. What? I turned slowly to her, my heart thudding. “What?” I asked, voice barely above a whisper. Her smile faded, and she turned her face away from me. “Never mind,” “He has what?” I pressed on, wanting her to continue.“Forget I said anything.”But I couldn’t. She didn't mean to say what she said, but she said it anyway, so she has to complete it.“Valentina,” I said, stepping closer to her. “What were you going to say?”She hesitated, her fingers suddenly busy folding a dress that didn’t need folding. “I really shouldn’t have—”“But you did,” I said, interrupting her.
