I didn't wait for an answer. I rushed out of the room.
The night air whipped across my face like a splash of ice-cold water.
I collapsed onto the wooden steps of Tania's back porch and hugged my knees to my chest. The cool breeze cut right through my sweater, but inside, I was burning up.
Why couldn't he just kiss me?
A hot, humiliating tear slipped down my eyelashes. He protected me like a pet, but never touched me like a woman.
The screen door creaked behind me. Heavy, hesitant footsteps echoed on the floorboards.
I didn't need to look up to know it was him. His scent of cedar and leather enveloped me even before he sat down beside me.
"Anna," Anthony said softly.
He settled on the step below me and turned to look for my gaze.
"What got into you earlier? Why did you drink all those shots? You know you can't handle your alcohol."
"Go back inside, Anthony," I muttered, staring out into the darkened yard.
"No," he answered gently, reaching out.
His fingers brushed my knee, and a wave of heat spread through my entire body.
"You're mad at me. I saw it in your eyes when you drank those shots. What did I do?"
I let out a bitter laugh, choked by tears.
"What you did?"
I turned my head toward him. The porch light brought out the worry in his hazel eyes and the delicate curve of his lips. He was breathtakingly handsome.
"You drank half a bottle of tequila to keep your lips from touching mine," I blurted out in a hoarse, trembling voice, with that brutal honesty only alcohol could give me. "That's what you did."
Anthony froze completely.
"What?"
"Don't act like you don't understand!"
I hit my knee with my hand, while the tears finally began to flow freely down my cheeks.
"Everyone was watching us! They all know you think I'm ugly! You'd be ready to fight the whole room to defend me, but the thought of kissing me makes you want to vomit!"
"Anna, stop..."
"No! I've had enough!" I cried out, awkwardly wiping my cheeks with my sweater sleeve. "I'm sick of being your charity case! I'm sick of watching every girl in school throw herself at you while I stay in my corner like some pathetic loser following you everywhere! I didn't come to this party so you could protect me, Anthony!"
When he remained silent, I stood up abruptly.
"I'm going home."
Before I could even take a step, Anthony sprang up. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me firmly back.
I stumbled against his chest. His arms wrapped around my waist like iron bands, pinning me against him. The heat of his body burned right through my thick clothes.
"You think I drank that tequila because I didn't want to touch you?" Anthony growled in a husky voice, the vibrations echoing against my chest.
I tried to push him away, but he didn't budge an inch.
"Let me go..."
"Listen to me!" he snapped harshly, his fingers tightening around my waist to the point of sinking into my flesh. "I drank because those assholes were making fun of you! I wasn't going to let them watch you kiss me like you were just some vulgar dare in their stupid game!"
I froze and looked up into his dark, stormy eyes.
"Tell me if you want me to stop."
He leaned down and pressed his lips against mine.
My eyes widened. The kiss was fierce, desperate, electrifying. A gasp escaped me, and he used it to deepen the kiss, his tongue tangling with mine, tasting of tequila, mint, and pure desire.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulled him closer, and buried my fingers in his soft hair.
He groaned against my lips, then tightened his grip to press my hips against his pelvis. I felt the firm pressure of his erection against my stomach, and a shiver ran down my spine.
"Anthony..." I moaned against his mouth.
He pulled back slightly and pressed a kiss to my forehead, looking at me as if I were the most important person in the world.
"You're cute. Let's go back inside."
I held him back.
"No. Not like that."
He understood what I was getting at and shrugged.
"It'll be fine. It'll pass."
I bit my lower lip hard and took a step closer to him.
"I... I want this," I whispered, grazing his crotch with my fingertips.
A moan escaped him.
He stepped back.
"No, Anna. I can't do this to you."
I touched him again and applied gentle pressure, taking his breath away.
"You can. Please, Anthony. I want you."
He took my hand and led me down the porch steps toward his dark sedan parked at the edge of the lawn.
He unlocked the back door, opened it, and helped me in before climbing into the driver's seat and speeding off.
We didn't exchange a word until we arrived at his place and went up to his bedroom. The room smelled of cedar and clean laundry.
Before I even had a chance to look around, he kissed me fiercely again, then broke away abruptly.
"This is your last chance, Anna. Tell me to stop."
His voice was hoarse. I knew he wanted me, too.
I held his gaze as I pulled my t-shirt over my head, then unhooked my bra. My breasts were freed, heavy and firm, their tips hardened by the cool air and the way he was looking at me.
"Touch me, Anthony. I want you to touch me."
His throat tightened.
"After this, Anna, there's no turning back."
**Anna’s POV**Anthony’s deep, hoarse voice echoed down the mahogany table, dry enough to break the silence of the conference room. For an endless moment, my heart hammered against my ribs like a trapped bird. Panic surged through my veins, but seven years of survival had taught me how to keep my composure. I clutched my leather portfolio so tightly my knuckles turned white, meeting his gaze without letting my expression crack."With all due respect, Director Vance, my personal life is not up for discussion here. There is a clear boundary between business and my private life, and I intend for us to respect it."Anthony furrowed his dark brows. His broad shoulders tightened, and his gaze grew more piercing."You still haven't answered my question.""Because it has nothing to do with work.""You have a son, Anna. Surely you don't expect me to act like I didn't hear that?"I felt my stomach knot, but I refused to look down."I have answered your questions regarding the transition files.
Anna’s POVSeven years later.I smoothed the front of my gray trousers, adjusted my blazer, and took a deep breath in front of the executive wing.As a senior acquisition team coordinator at Super Eagles Entertainment, I was used to high-pressure mornings. Yet today, the entire floor felt on the verge of exploding. Files circulated from hand to hand, feverish whispers rose from the desks, and abandoned coffee cups bore witness to the general agitation. Everyone was bracing for the official merger meeting."The board of directors is already seated," my secretary, Sofia, whispered to me, handing me a stack of financial reports. "The new CEO arrived ten minutes early. Everyone says he's ruthless.""Everything will be fine," I replied, forcing my voice to remain calm. "We have all the necessary data."I pushed open the heavy glass door and entered the conference room.My gaze swept across the long mahogany table before coming to a halt on the man seated at the far end. My heart immediatel
**Anna’s POV**I didn't even remember starting the car. The drive to my mother's house was just a blur of neon traffic lights and a suffocating silence. The moment I slammed my bedroom door and turned the key in the lock, an uncontrollable sob escaped me. I threw my graduation cap to the floor, then collapsed onto the edge of the bed, my chest compressed by the pain.Four years. Four years of loving him in secret. Shivering under his gaze. Trembling at his slightest touch. And this was what he reduced me to.A mistake. A simple mistake caused by tequila.I had loved him in secret for so long that this love felt almost like a part of me. Every stolen glance, every touch had made me wonder, for years, if he felt the same way.And then, there had been that night.I buried my face in my hands, letting out a broken sob as the memories washed over me again. The warmth of his hands on my skin. His bated breath when he kissed my neck. The way he looked at me in the dark, with a desperate tend
Anthony’s POVI had just gotten back after walking her home. The only sound in the apartment was the hum of the refrigerator, but inside my head, it was pure chaos.I leaned forward and buried my face in my hands. My calloused palms scraped against my cheeks, brutally reminding me that none of this was a dream. Anna had been there, right here. In this bed. Under these exact sheets.Four years. Four years of pretending not to notice her. Four years of playing the loyal, harmless best friend while my chest burned every single time some arrogant high school jerk even dared to look at her.And tonight, she had looked at me with her big, sincere eyes to tell me she wanted me.A short, strangled laugh escaped me.State university, in two months. We had already chosen our apartments. We used to talk about it like a distant project. But now? Now, the mere idea of moving in with her sent an intense, electrifying wave of heat coursing through my veins. The heavy sound of leather shoes on the ha
Anna’s POVThe door closed behind us, and the lock turned with a soft metallic click. He stepped closer, his hands trembling as if he were afraid of breaking me."Anna… you are so beautiful. I can’t believe you’re letting me do this."His palms rested under my breasts, lifting them gently, while his thumbs brushed against my skin with infinite delicacy. A trembling breath escaped me. I swallowed hard."It’s my first time."He held my gaze for a moment."Mine too."His voice softened."Then we’ll go slowly. Very slowly. You set the pace."He lifted me in his arms, carrying me like a princess to the bed, where he laid me down gently. He leaned over and softly kissed the top of each breast. His lips lingered on my skin, sending shivers racing down my body. His tongue lightly brushed one nipple, then the other, until a sigh slipped from my lips.He sucked gently, just enough to make my knees go weak."God, they’re perfect," he whispered against my skin. "So soft. So warm."His hands slid
