15. GROUND GETTING UNSTEADY
He was kind of whispering when he said that. I wondered what was going on but I didn’t question it immediately.
“Hey, What’s up?” I asked.
“So sorry for calling you so late. I just wanted to say goodnight”, he was still whispering.
That made me question him about his safety.
“Are you ok? Why are you whispering?”
“Well, it turns out you were right when we were at the mall”, he said.
“About what?”
“We were being followed. They saw me with you, Kyle’s people. So now, they saw you and are probably going to try tracking you down. They bugged my phone in case I contacted you. So I went out of the house and I’m calling you with Kelsey’s phone”, he said.
“So, what are you going to do? What am I supposed to do? Why would they want anything to do with me? I mean, it's not like they know anything about me.”

We ate dinner quietly and had a game of checkers after that. We shared a lot of jokes and laughed a lot. I woke up to a cloud-covered day. It was a little windy but not the kind of conditions that kept you indoors for the whole day. I didn’t pay much attention at first since they were still updating Ashton’s parents about Kyle Simpson.
