22. THOROUGH DISCUSSION
I didn’t pay much attention at first since they were still updating Ashton’s parents about Kyle Simpson. I knew most of the information that was being delivered so I took that time to practise my shield.
Ashton came to sit by me on the couch. He took the liberty of holding my hand and squeezing it a bit. I knew that it was his way of saying, “Are you ok?” I smiled at him for assurance and then leaned my head on his shoulder. His head leaned on mine and we forgot about everything bad that was happening at that moment. We just focused on us and the time that we had. Of course, we couldn’t do or say anything because of the audience that we had. So we just sat like that for some time while the others were still talking about Kyle Simpson.

Eventually, everyone in the house was asleep, except me and Ashton. I was lying on my bed, waiting for time to go by until the elders’ minds were all unconscious. After breakfast everyone else went about their businesses. My dad, Jay and Kelsey went down to the lab. Mr and Mrs McKenzie went to the living room to relax while watching TV. I found him in the attic sitting on one of the seats that the room provided. I sank into the seat next to his and relaxed in it. The attic had glass walls, the lights were off. After the communication with my dad, we offloaded the supplies we had brought. Jack gave us a quick orientation on how all the weapons worked. We got armed and battle ready. My molecular kinesis came in handy to seal the door on its doorframe before Kyle erupted from the room. Ashton was already in his defensive position from Quinn and Stuart. It seemed Roman had gotten some strength powers as he got the door off the hinges without much effort. I woke up to a dimly lit room, again. I felt relaxed, perfectly recovered. I turned my head to my left side and found Ashton sleeping in the chair next to my bed, it really looked uncomfortable. I looked to my right side and found the room empty, except for Jack’s tab on the cyber-desk. I got up from the bed and walked to the desk. I took Jack’s tablet and tapped twice on the screen. Jack came around.“Hey kid! You’re up”, he said.His voice broke the quietness in the room. Ashton awoke with a start and quickly got to his feet. He got a head rush and quickly fell back on the chair. I got to him quickly with Jack still in my hand. I laughed at what had happened and kneeled next to his chair. I only realised then that I was in my pyjamas. Being outdoors became a necessity since it was the spring season and everything looked alive, except for me. It was almost half year since Ashton had left with his parents for their home in Cape Town. I managed to fulfil the promise we made to each other the night before he left but it was rather hard at times to fulfil it.I said goodbye to Ashton when they left the house because I didn't have the solidity to get him to the airport without breaking down. We had not been together for long, I was hoping for more time together but life has its ways of depriving us of the things we really want in life. Composure was the new gnome in our lives, since having Ashton back in our daily lives seemed to be the main cure that got everyone hyped up all over again. Even Mya and Brendan seemed to be over the moon with how things turned out, turns out they were tired of having a more 'brooding Lina' day in and day out. It certainly felt great to have some calm in our lives again, not having to think of what to do to keep yourself busy from thinking about depressing events in our lives.The dangerous life we had been scared of more than half a year ago seemed to be a distant memory now. Having those kinds of dangers removed from our lives was relief that allowed us to have a normal life, apart from what we had to deal with in our private lives.
