Chapter 2: A Chance

Bea finally stopped crying after almost thirty minutes. She fixed her appearance and made sure that no one would notice her puffy red eyes before she opened the door of the comfort room and left.

While walking towards the counter, she groaned when she suddenly bumped into a man. He was tall and she felt as if she bumped into a wall. Just how hard his muscles were for her to feel such pain just by bumping him? She had an annoyed expression when she looked at the man, but the man did not even look at her.

He just continued walking towards his table without even a single word of apology. Were all city men supposed to be arrogant? How rude!

She glared at the man who was finally seated at the corner before she started walking again towards the counter. She ordered an Iced Americano to calm herself.

As soon as she was seated near the glass wall of the establishment, she wondered why nothing good happened to her for that day. She should not have gone to the city in the first place. If she just stayed in the province obediently, she would not have been hurt by what she saw today.

She looked up when she felt the tears pooling in her eyes once more. She thought that she was done crying. She sighed and looked at the Iced Americano in front of her. She even ordered William’s favorite drink. Just how much more should she torment herself?

He was everything to her.

Just how did he end up cheating on her? Was it that easy to throw away all those moments that they spent together? She let out an exasperated sigh when the rain started to pour. Was she in some sort of a drama? Why were the clouds weeping in her stead?

She wiped the tears on her eyes and let out a sigh to stop herself from crying harder. She was not the type who would cry so easily but she could not stop her tears from falling. Finally, she gave up on trying and she just put her head down on the table as her shoulders shook.

The questions started to flood her head like the sound of raindrops outside the establishment. There was a bunch of why’s, what-ifs, and should have been.

Why did he cheat? Was there something wrong with her? Did she do something wrong? Was she not enough?

It finally made sense. Now she could understand why William had been too occupied for the last few months. She was patient! She tried to understand that he was busy with his work, but little did she know that he was already flirting with another woman.

What did she do wrong? When did he stop loving her? Was it because she was too far? She trusted him. She trusted his love for her. Was his love shallow? Was her love not enough?

Her shoulders shook harder and she muffled the sound of her cries with her arms. It was embarrassing to cry in a public place but she did not care anymore. Her pain was too much and she could not even think straight.

There was an urge within her to go back there and talk to him. She wanted to tell him that she was sorry and that she would do anything for him to come back.

With those thoughts in mind, she felt so pathetic. Why did she end up being like this? She used to be fine being alone. She was fine all on her own. She was fine with watching him from afar.

She sighed again and wiped the tears on her cheeks. She took a sip of her watered-down Americano and looked outside. It finally stopped raining. Should she just head home?

Her brows furrowed when an elegant-looking lady sat across her. She looked around to check if there were not any available tables and she was surprised to see that there were too many vacant spots.

“Did you just perhaps get your heart broken?” The lady smirked as she took a sip from her frappe.

Creepy. Why would a stranger suddenly talk to her as if they were friends? Was this even common in the city?

“You’re pretty.” The lady smiled again as she was openly staring at her.

She stood up and was about to leave when the lady grabbed her hand and asked her to seat again.

“I’m a scout and I’m interested in recruiting you.”

Scout for what? She looked at her suspiciously so the lady took her wallet and gave her a card.

“I am Margaret Cannon, I scout people who have the potential to be models and actors.”

Bea looked at the card and even searched for her name on g****e. She was impressed when she realized that the lady in front of her was truly a scout with impressive achievements. Most of her recruits became well-known professionals who won awards from time to time.

Why would such a person take an interest in her?

She smiled awkwardly and gave her back the card. “Thank you for noticing me, but I’m not interested.”

“You should think about it first.” Margaret insisted. She pushed the card back towards her and smiled. She opened her bag and pull out a portfolio. “This is the list of my recruits and their achievements. I also included the names of the company that I am affiliated with.”

“Thanks, but I must decline. I don’t think I’m not suited for the jobs that you could offer.” Bea smiled politely and stood up. She was about to leave when she heard Margaret talk again.

“Why not? Don’t you think being a famous model would make your ex regret leaving you?” The lady grinned mischievously. “Are you sure you wanted to pass up this chance?”

Sly.

She never even thought of it once. But now that she mentioned it, there was an urge within her to take up the offer. Was it for revenge? Maybe she just wanted to feel better for herself.

But was that really the right thing to do? Would his regret make her feel better? Maybe not. But it could also be an opportunity for her to try another thing. Even if she did not want revenge, maybe she could find something by taking the offer. It would not hurt since she would be going back to the province after that.

“Fine.” She gave in. If she really had a talent for this, she would like to take the chance before she returned to the province.

“That’s a wise decision.” Margaret was enthusiastic and excited. “I’ll make you shine brighter in this project!”

Their conversation was cut off when Margaret’s phone rang and the lady gestured to give her a minute for the call. She nodded politely and focused her attention on her drink.

“What? Why was she not there yet?” Margaret’s tone was full of disappointment. Though she could not hear the voice from the other line, Bea could tell that there had been a problem at work. “Fine. I’ll bring a proxy there.”

Bea could feel the goosebumps when Margaret looked at her with a mischievous smile. “I think I got you a project to work on right now.”

No way. Was she the proxy that she was talking about?
