CHAPTER 2

Raquel's POV

I can still remember the first day I saw him. He was moving in next door to the apartment where my mom and I was staying. My mom is single mother and work several jobs to send me to school, pay the rent, the bills and food on the table so she was barely home. I also work part time at a diner during the weekends to help with our expenses. I was watching them from my apartment window as he and the movers where putting the things out of the truck. He had some expensive appliances and all his furniture seemed new. It’s weird that he would move in to our apartment if he had money.

I was really curious so I opened the door and waited for him to make it to the apartment. My jaw dropped seeing how good looking he was. I had a huge crush on him at that moment. I went in to my room and looked through the hole that was directly located to his bed room. I used to peep to that hole to check out my previous neighbors when I was bored. I know it seemed weird but I was a kid. I was scared when my mom with leave me alone while she works. So I peeked through that hole to check that I was with someone. Our previous neighbor was Ann and she was really nice but she left and moved in with his boyfriend. It’s been almost a month since she was gone.

I was seventeen and I was scared to talk to him so I tried my best to avoid him. I ended up spying on him from my room and I can’t really stop myself from checking him out. He had a great body and I’ve seen him naked on the first week he moved in. I was infatuated and I thought I was in love. He was he was five years older than me. I looked forward on seeing him but he covered up the hole on the wall so I ended up watching him through the windows or the door when he gets home or leave his apartment.

Until he showed up in our front door the third week of he moved in the building did I get a chance to meet him.

“Honey, get the door.” My mom yelled as she was cooking dinner.

“I’m doing my homework.” I replied from my bedroom.

“Get the door, honey, please. I am almost done cooking and you can do your homework later after dinner.” My mom stated seriously.

“Fine.” I went to open our front door and was so shocked to see Sacha at our door.

“Hi, your mom invited me for dinner I hope I am not late.” He stated and I just stared at him. “Hey kid, are you okay? Didn’t your mom tell you I was coming?”

“Raquel, let Sacha in.” My mom yelled so I let him in. “Forgive my daughter she is not used in having guest in our house.” My mom greeted him.

“I guess she is just surprised that I was invited to your house.” He replied. “And these are for you.” He handed a bouquet of flowers to my mom and my jaw literally dropped.

What the hell is my prince charming dating my mom?!!!

I was so surprised that I was just looking at the two of them talking or flirting. It was like those silent movies that all I can see are there movements but there were no dialogues. That the more I watch, the more confuse I get. I honestly had no idea what was going on. My mom never invited a guy to eat with us before. And he even got her flowers. How can he be interested with my mom? I’m not saying that my mom is not a great catch but she’s older than him. Is he in to older women? Am I going to be his step daughter who would look at him with desire? Her future step daughter who would long to be touched by him… Her future step daughter that who would long to feel the warmth of his body next to mine.

“Raquel, what is going on with you?” My mom yelling at me brought me back to the present.

“What?” I asked looking at her confused.

“I was asking if you can show Sacha around the neighborhood.”

“Why?” I replied.

“It’s totally fine, Margie. I can find my way around. She’s a kid. She should be spending time with kids like her not with me.” He butted in.

“And you should be spending time with people your age and not with my mom.” I blurted out.

“Raquel.” My mom stated seriously. “Forgive my daughter she seems to have lost her manners today.”

“It’s fine.” He smiled at me sweetly. “I don’t really consider the age of the people I hang out with. I just don’t want to bother you. I mean you might have a boyfriend that would get jealous if they see as together.” He teased.

“Right? Of course you would think that I have boyfriend. I mean, you always all assume that at my age I would just be thinking about boys. Sorry to disappoint you but I have my studies at the top of my priorities.” I replied annoyed at him.

“That is good to hear, honey. Now, can we all head to the table to eat.” My mom interrupted.

The food was great but I wasn’t able to enjoy it. I kept glancing at my mom and Sacha who were happily talking. I never seen my mom this way towards a guy. I should be happy for her but I can’t. Sacha is supposed to be mine not hers. He should have come to our house to see me not her. He was supposed to be mine. As if I had a chance with someone like him. He insisted to help with the dishes which made me more annoyed than pleased.

“Margie, it’s the least I can do. You already prepared our delicious meal so I think it would just be right for me to help with the dishes.” He stated.

“You are too much.” My mom said smiling at him.

“For someone like you nothing is too much.”

“Jeez, are you two really going to flirt in front of me.” I stated annoyed at them.

“Flirt?!” My mom looked at me in disbelief. “Young lady are you crazy? Where do you get this kind of stupid ideas? Sacha is just being nice.”

“Am I?” He butted in before he blurted out in laughter. “Listen kid I can see that you are very protective of your mom but Margie is just going to be helping me out. I need someone to buy grocery and do some errands for me and she said that she can use the cash.”

“Mom, you are already have so much on your plate. You have two jobs and you want to be his house keeper. I told you I can just drop out of school and work full time until I can save up for my school fees.” I ranted.

“Stop talking nonsense. It’s only twice a week that I’ll clean up and buy groceries for Sacha. You are going to keep on attending school and I can’t believe that we are having this discussion in front of our guest.” My mom stated.

“It’s totally fine. Kid, relax I am not going to make your mom work so hard. I’ll make sure to ask her to buy things for me when she is doing your groceries.”

“Good luck with that. We only buy groceries once a month. I think you would need more considering that you seem to be having guests at your place every other day.” I pointed out. “And can you please turn down the music when it turns ten. I usually go to bed at that time. The walls in this apartment are quite thin.”

“Sure thing kid. Don’t worry less house guest from now on. They were just people that are welcoming me for moving here.” He replied.

“Well, now that is settled. Let me do the dishes and young lady finish your homework. I have to head out to the diner for my shift tonight.”

“I’ll do the dishes, mom. You can just rest or get ready. It only takes a few minutes. Besides, I’m almost done with my homework.”

“Just let me do it kid. Besides, it’s the least I can do for the delicious meal.”

“Fine, suit yourself. I am doing my homework.”

Since then I see him regularly. Whenever my mom was busy I end up doing the chores at his place and his groceries. He was pretty nice and gives me extra cash every time I do some chores for him. We barely talk and I was really annoyed that he keeps calling me kid. I mean. I was turning 18 this year in a few months. I am not a kid. I hope that he would just looked at me and see a me as a woman. I was stupid. I know that he would never be attractive to me. He looks at me like his little sister.
