Chapter Two
Vanessa’s POV
“Shit” I hissed. Damn that glass. Now I have to announce my presence. I crawled to the back of the door and immediately flipped the light on. Heavy footsteps shook the ground, and I needed no telling who it was. I pulled the gun to the back of his head.
“Move,” he froze.
Seconds passed before he said another word. “Excuse me,” he slowly turned to face me, and for the one millionth time, I was happy Alena suggested I wear a thick mask. He watched me from head to toe. Accessing me, but no matter how intimidating he looked, my hold on the gun never wavered.
Kai Vega stood in front of me. Tall. Broad shoulders. As handsome as ever in a white shirt and black pants. His sleeves were rolled to his arms, just the way I loved them. Men! His very dark hair. His intimidating gray eyes. His slightly pouty lips. Kai had the kind of beauty that made women want to do his will, even without saying a word. Even I was not the exception. Memories flashed through my mind: his lips against my ear, whispering sweet nothings.
No! Focus.
“I said move,” I coughed. “Move!” I hit the gun on his chest. Oh my gosh! My voice. He could know it’s me.” Raise your hands where I can see them,” I ordered. Yes, this voice was far better.
Kai stared at me, raised his hands in this calm fashion, and began walking into the sitting room. I walked faster towards him. He was tall and fast. He could overpower me.
“What do you want?” Kai said.
“Shut up and keep walking.”
He walked into the sitting room and turned, facing me. “You are wasting your time,” Kai said mildly. “I am not in the habit of keeping large amounts of cash in my room.
“Liar,” I said without thinking. My voice was not gruff anymore.
I watched Kai narrow his eyes at me. He had on his face what I usually call his thinking face. He was a smart man. Any minute now, he could do something that would destabilize me. The faster I get this money, the earlier I leave. The more I stay here, the more time it will take to realize who I am.
“Give me the diamond,” I said. Gone was my pretense of acting like a man. I wanted out of this room quickly.
“I’m afraid I don’t know what you are talking about,” Kai said in that cool, unperturbed voice
I growled impatiently. I hit the gun on his chest. Enough to hurt, but to cause so much harm. “You know very well what I mean. The diamond you received yesterday from your client from Bulgaria. Bring it to me if you wish to live.”
He clenched his fist and stared daggers at me. Only if looks could kill. In my fear, I put my hand on the trigger.
I sighed. When I got Intel from Alena that a rich man was coming into the hotel, I knew the only way to get money for Mr. Eugene’s meds was to take money from this said rich man.
They are always rich. They will barely notice. When I saw that the rich man was Kai Vega. My ex, my interest was piqued. Where did he get all that money from? The last time I saw him, he was dirt poor, hanging on my every word. He wanted the marriage more than I did.
Well, that was in the past. All I wanted was his money. When I found out from another hotel person that he had received some diamonds, I knew my luck had just gotten better.
“This is a silver bullet gun. I know what you are.” I threatened. “One bullet and I’ll send you back to your maker.”
“If you shoot me, princess, you will never have the jewel,” he said with a slight smirk.
How dare he smile in such a serious situation? “Maybe I’ll have something far better,” I spat in a low voice. “Your life,” I smirked.
Kai drew in slow, steady breaths. Now it was my turn to smirk.
“Where is the safe?”
He shut his eyes briefly. “You need to shoot me,” he said in a carefully controlled voice, “because I find you. And what I will do to you when that happens will make your worst nightmare seem like a pleasant dream.”
“Shut up, you aren’t the one in control here, Vega,” I spat despite the drumming of my heartbeat. It was right to be scared of an angry Kai. He was blind with his rage. But this risk is what I am willing to take. For Alena. For Mr. Eugene.
“Now show me where the safe is or I’ll blow your brains out.”
He stared at me and sighed. “Don’t regret this when I come for you,” he said, walking to a wall. I raised my eyebrows. What was he doing there? Maybe he was with a gun. I hit the gun on his back. “Do you think we are here to play?” I growled.
My eyes widened when he walked and produced a safe. I couldn't believe it. The safe was in plain sight. He opened it.
“Bring out the diamonds!”
He slowly took out a box, and there, in a thick, clean brown paper, he showed me the diamonds. They shone in the light. Almost blinded me.
Kai turned around, and fear gripped me. I couldn't leave the room safe if he wasn’t restrained. I tightened the grip on my gun. My sweaty palms were making it hard to hold the gun.
“Now get out of there,” I said, giving a great distance between us.
Kai walked away. I led him to a chair, quite far from the safe. Then I produced a handcuff and threw it at him.
“Cuff yourself to the chair. Make sure I hear the snap.
“You animal,” he growled.
“I pointed the gun at his head. “Don’t tempt me, Vega.”
Slowly, Kai took the handcuff, and the snap could be heard throughout the room. He jerked his hand around, and I saw it had snapped. I sighed in relief. I quickly went to the safe and began to pack both the money and diamonds. By the time I was through, I smiled, but that was quickly wiped off my face when Kai spoke.
“I will find you, girl, and you will pay for this in ways you can't imagine,” he said coldly.
“Shut up with your threats,” I bit out. My hands trembled, and I began to break out in a sweat while holding the gun. He was Capable of evil, but today was for me. Tomorrow can wait. I moved to leave the room. Then I looked back.
The last thing I saw was Kai Vega’s eyes.
They were cold and hard, promising revenge. I swallowed.
Chapter FiveVanessa’s POV Kai moved me to a penthouse, and then he locked me in. I banged on the door till my palm began to bleed. Nobody heard me. No one helped me.The flight back home took more than ten hours. Though I had travelled with Kai in a private jet, I was exhausted by the time we arrived. I hadn’t slept well since the night Kai took me from the house. The next time I opened my eyes, I didn’t need to be told. I was back home. At the pack. The landscape and the heightened senses. It was a house stinking of affluence. Maids and guards and all that royalty. I didn’t want to know how he got the money. All I wanted was to go home. Tears flooded my eyes, and I lay on the bed and began to cry. It hurt so much that my tears did nothing, but that was all I could do.Later that night, there was a knock on the door. I didn’t make a move to open it. They can break it if they want.“Open up, Miss Vanessa, you have to eat something or you will die!” a voice yelled from outside the d
Chapter FourVanessa’s POV I jerked awake. I looked around me. Where was I?“See anything familiar?” I swiftly turned around to find a figure standing in front of a window in the dark. I was on the verge of asking the question ‘who are you?’ when he turned. It was Kai.Kai Vega. And immediately, everything began to flood in.“Where have you brought me?”Kai walked away from the window and came towards me. I backed away further to the end of the bed on the bed.“What are you doing? Stay back! Don’t come any closer,” I yelled.Kai smirked, “I don’t bite Vanessa…yet.” There was a wicked gleam in his eyes. I looked around me, and there was a shoe.“If you come any closer, I’ll throw this on you,” I warned. He chuckled. “I’ll love to see you try, Nessa.”“Stop toying with me, Kai. And don’t call me Nessa.”His gaze grew darker. “I thought you liked it.”That was his pet name for me while we dated. I had asked him to call me that.I looked around the room for any means to escape. It was
Chapter ThreeVanessa’s POV1 week later I watched Eugene, Alena’s father, lie in his bed. His Blankets were pulled high, his frail body lost in the mass of covers. His eyes were closed, and he breathed like one with half a nose.I swallowed. Will he survive this? Oh, I pray he does. I have the money now. I have some money aside from the diamonds. That will be enough for his treatment. I mean, after what he had done for me, he deserves to live. He surely does. No one has ever made me feel wanted like Mr. Eugene after Dad’s passing. It was and still feels like I and Alena are sisters.Staring at him trembled like a leaf broke something in me. Illness had reduced the tall man to this. This thought hardens my hate when I recall how I had robbed my ex-boyfriend.“Nessa!” Alena screamed, and I roughly wiped my tears. And went to clean his room.“Nessa, please can you get the door!”I groaned and dropped the mop. She was closer to the door. Why do I have to be the one to go answer it? I

Chapter OneKai's POV“What’s that supposed to mean?” I glared at the elders. The council Chambers was gravely quiet. None of them could look me in the eye, but I was baffled that they could plot behind my back. They even had the guts to utter such words in my presence.I paced the length of the room. Ever since I became Alpha, these elders have been on my neck. Problems after problems have been arising. The things I have had to endure to keep my throne.Suddenly, an old elder cleared his throat. He looked up, his chin tipped up in defiance."An alpha without a strong bloodline is an alpha on borrowed time," the old man said, his voice like gravel. "If you want to keep your title, bring us a mate. “The other elders murmured in agreement. This must be a jokeI haven't ruled for two years, and they are already requesting a mate.I inhaled slowly, suppressing the growl rising in my throat. I first went to take a seat in my chair, at the head of the long Mahogany table. As I stared at e
