Chapter Five
Vanessa’s POV
Kai moved me to a penthouse, and then he locked me in. I banged on the door till my palm began to bleed. Nobody heard me. No one helped me.
The flight back home took more than ten hours. Though I had travelled with Kai in a private jet, I was exhausted by the time we arrived. I hadn’t slept well since the night Kai took me from the house. The next time I opened my eyes, I didn’t need to be told. I was back home. At the pack. The landscape and the heightened senses.
It was a house stinking of affluence. Maids and guards and all that royalty. I didn’t want to know how he got the money. All I wanted was to go home. Tears flooded my eyes, and I lay on the bed and began to cry. It hurt so much that my tears did nothing, but that was all I could do.
Later that night, there was a knock on the door. I didn’t make a move to open it. They can break it if they want.
“Open up, Miss Vanessa, you have to eat something or you will die!” a voice yelled from outside the door. I ignored her as I just sat on the bed, bawling into the pillow.
The next minute, the door was broken open.
“Eat your food!” he barked. For a weird reason, I wasn’t scared. The worst has happened.
I wiped a tear from my cheek and stared at the window. “I’m not hungry,” Kai stared at me for longer before he walked out of the room. An older woman walked in with two maids.
“Come on, child. You have to eat,” the older woman with a nice voice said. I slowly looked at her. She looked homely. Maybe she would understand.
“Ma’am,” I cried. “Please let me go. Kai has brought me here against my will. Please help me. I need to leave here.” I grabbed onto her hands and began to beg as I cried profusely. She looked at me and smiled warmly. She went on to wipe my tears.
“Come on, sweet girl,” she smiled. “Tears are not the best for the wedding tomorrow. It will ruin your makeup up” as she was speaking, I noticed some maids bringing a white dress on a mannequin and shoes and makeup.
“What are these for?” I blurted.
“The wedding,” a maid replied.
I snapped my eyes back at the woman. I quickly withdrew my hands from her and sprang up like I had been stung by a bee. I stared at them and the dress. I pushed the mannequin. Trashed the makeup set.
“What the hell is wrong with all of you?” I yelled, “How wicked can you be not to see this is a sham of a marriage!”
The woman stood up. “I will let Your Highness deal with you.”
“I don’t care who your highness is, all I know is I'm not getting married!!” I screamed. “All of you get out!”
The woman glared at me, and she ushered the other maids out. I paced the room, my mind was running with ideas, and one got clear.
I went straight to the drawer. I rummaged through and then I saw it. I used the scissors to cut the wedding dress to shreds. Then I went to the bathroom and drenched it in water. Used it to wipe the floor. By the time I was through, it was a rag.
I finally sat, breathing heavily. Reality dawned on me. I was still locked up in here. Tears began to flood my eyes. I thought about my best friend and her father. The tears came more.
“Oh, Alena, please be alright,” I wept.
After crying, I wiped my face and sat straight. I knew I had to do something. I knew I had to escape. I went to the window and the balcony. Looking. Checking.
My room was heavily guarded, and I had access to just the bathroom. I went to use the bathroom when I saw a window open.
After midnight, I took out the sheets and tied them like a rope. Then I set up the chair. I climbed over gently and used the bed sheet to land softly. As I was about to run, I heard footsteps and hid behind some flowers. My heart beat so loudly that I thought they would hear. The whole of my body was visibly shaking. Then, after a long time of standing there, they finally left. I waited for like a minute. Then I took off running. I didn’t look back. The gate was bolted, but the lock was free. With terrible, shaky hands, I moved the bolt thing quietly and then opened the door. This was it. I was finally free.
The moment I made to run out, huge hands came from behind and grabbed me again. I screamed, and a hand was clasped over my mouth. That was the last thing I remembered before I passed out.
I woke to find myself in a room. I quickly sat up to see Kai sitting on a chair.
“What are you doing here?” I glared at him. Kai slowly turned to me. He stood up, and I tried to back away, but he grabbed my hand and opened the door.
“Don’t touch me!!” I screamed.
“You should go to your room to get ready for the wedding.”
You can’t force me to go with you,” I sneered.
“I will carry you myself, Vanessa, if you insist on acting like a kid.”
“I‘ll yell out for help, someone will hear.”
“And sentence your loved ones to death? I think not,” he squinted. “What was their name again, Alena… Eugene"
“Kai, don’t you dare touch my loved ones!” I said in gritted teeth as I walked closer to him, warning him, “Or else I will—
He scoffed, and he grabbed my hand. “You will what? Huh?” Tears began to fall freely from my eyes.
“Kia, don’t touch the ones I love!” I said in between tears.
“We made a deal,” he said, grabbing my hands as I struggled to be free from his grip. “There is no going back. If you ever run away again, I won’t even give you a preview, you will attend the funeral of your loved ones.” his voice was dangerously low. Hot tears fell from my eyes.
“I won’t touch you, so that you can suffer for your mistake,” he smirked. “You and I know, the pain is worse than death,” he said in a whisper.
I closed my eyes and let tears cascade down my cheeks. I now understood what I had done. Understood that I had made a deal with the monster who was once my lover. I was foolish to think he had changed.

Chapter FourVanessa’s POV I jerked awake. I looked around me. Where was I?“See anything familiar?” I swiftly turned around to find a figure standing in front of a window in the dark. I was on the verge of asking the question ‘who are you?’ when he turned. It was Kai.Kai Vega. And immediately, everything began to flood in.“Where have you brought me?”Kai walked away from the window and came towards me. I backed away further to the end of the bed on the bed.“What are you doing? Stay back! Don’t come any closer,” I yelled.Kai smirked, “I don’t bite Vanessa…yet.” There was a wicked gleam in his eyes. I looked around me, and there was a shoe.“If you come any closer, I’ll throw this on you,” I warned. He chuckled. “I’ll love to see you try, Nessa.”“Stop toying with me, Kai. And don’t call me Nessa.”His gaze grew darker. “I thought you liked it.”That was his pet name for me while we dated. I had asked him to call me that.I looked around the room for any means to escape. It was
Chapter ThreeVanessa’s POV1 week later I watched Eugene, Alena’s father, lie in his bed. His Blankets were pulled high, his frail body lost in the mass of covers. His eyes were closed, and he breathed like one with half a nose.I swallowed. Will he survive this? Oh, I pray he does. I have the money now. I have some money aside from the diamonds. That will be enough for his treatment. I mean, after what he had done for me, he deserves to live. He surely does. No one has ever made me feel wanted like Mr. Eugene after Dad’s passing. It was and still feels like I and Alena are sisters.Staring at him trembled like a leaf broke something in me. Illness had reduced the tall man to this. This thought hardens my hate when I recall how I had robbed my ex-boyfriend.“Nessa!” Alena screamed, and I roughly wiped my tears. And went to clean his room.“Nessa, please can you get the door!”I groaned and dropped the mop. She was closer to the door. Why do I have to be the one to go answer it? I
Chapter TwoVanessa’s POV“Shit” I hissed. Damn that glass. Now I have to announce my presence. I crawled to the back of the door and immediately flipped the light on. Heavy footsteps shook the ground, and I needed no telling who it was. I pulled the gun to the back of his head.“Move,” he froze.Seconds passed before he said another word. “Excuse me,” he slowly turned to face me, and for the one millionth time, I was happy Alena suggested I wear a thick mask. He watched me from head to toe. Accessing me, but no matter how intimidating he looked, my hold on the gun never wavered.Kai Vega stood in front of me. Tall. Broad shoulders. As handsome as ever in a white shirt and black pants. His sleeves were rolled to his arms, just the way I loved them. Men! His very dark hair. His intimidating gray eyes. His slightly pouty lips. Kai had the kind of beauty that made women want to do his will, even without saying a word. Even I was not the exception. Memories flashed through my mind: h
Chapter OneKai's POV“What’s that supposed to mean?” I glared at the elders. The council Chambers was gravely quiet. None of them could look me in the eye, but I was baffled that they could plot behind my back. They even had the guts to utter such words in my presence.I paced the length of the room. Ever since I became Alpha, these elders have been on my neck. Problems after problems have been arising. The things I have had to endure to keep my throne.Suddenly, an old elder cleared his throat. He looked up, his chin tipped up in defiance."An alpha without a strong bloodline is an alpha on borrowed time," the old man said, his voice like gravel. "If you want to keep your title, bring us a mate. “The other elders murmured in agreement. This must be a jokeI haven't ruled for two years, and they are already requesting a mate.I inhaled slowly, suppressing the growl rising in my throat. I first went to take a seat in my chair, at the head of the long Mahogany table. As I stared at e
