Chapter four
Savannah was devastated that all these happened to her. She cherished her brother so much as he was the only blood she had. Lucy was at home, waiting for Savannah, when she saw her looking dejected.
“What is wrong? Did anything bad happen?” She asked, looking concerned.
“Things aren’t really going my way.” She said as she broke into hot tears.
“Oh, Savannah. I understand how you feel and I know I can't really offer much help, but I want you to stand strong, as things would get better for you, soon.” Lucy, encouraged, trying to lift her spirits up.
“When is that soon? A year to the end of my life? Or when I have lost so many things and important people in my life.” Savannah said, sounding weak.
“Oh come on, Savannah. Cheer up.” Lucy said as she wiped Savannah’s test
. ~
Two weeks later, Savannah and Lucy were talking about a funny experience they had. Savannah was able to laugh and cheer up a bit, because she was able to pay a substantial amount out of her brother’s surgical fee.
“Oh my goodness. He didn’t know what was in it for him.” Savannah laughed out loud. Then she began to feel like she could puke anytime soon, so she stood up and rushed to the toilet. She puked in the sink and washed her face. Savannah didn’t suspect anything until she puked about five times, consecutively as they were still having a funny conversation
. “What’s going on, Savannah?” Lucy asked, out of concern.
“I really do not know. I have been feeling weak recently, I feel the part time jobs I am into are beginning to tell on me.” Savannah said, looking worn out.
“I think we need to go to the hospital. I mean, right now. It must not be what I am suspecting.” Lucy said as she stood up and picked up her jacket.
“What are you suspecting?” Savannah asked, with an expression that showed she had no idea of what was going on.
“Never mind. We will find out when we get to the hospital.” Lucy replied, urging her to be quick.
They got to the hospital and she did a pregnancy and malaria test. When the results came out, the doctor called them into his office, smiling. It was a different doctor, In charge of what she came for.
“Sorry for the delay. Uhm, regarding the test, one was positive, while the other was negative.” The doctor said, smiling widely.
Lucy began to guess which one was positive, as she could observe the doctor’s wide grin. She wondered why they had to smile like that, not knowing if the patient was happy to hear the news or not.
“Doctor, which is positive?” Savannah asked, out of curiosity and fear, hoping it wasn’t the pregnancy result.
“I am happy to tell you that you are three weeks pregnant.” The doctor smiled, with his eyes sparkling.
“What!” Savannah exclaimed in shock.
. “Savannah, it is as you heard. Thank you doctor.” Lucy said as she grabbed Savannah’s hand and led her out of the doctor’s office.
Savannah had lost the zeal and strength to keep enduring all the bad things in life, as the pregnancy seemed like the worst thing ever. She wouldn’t be able to work or get a solution to her problems as pregnancy delayed a lot of things for people. And those who are poor could get their life destroyed by pregnancy.
She despised the man who made her life a roller coaster of problems, she regretted meeting him.
“Savannah, you do not have to worry about this too much.” Lucy advised, looking concerned about her.
“Lucy, thank you for all your efforts on me. You are a good friend and I will always remember you.” Savannah said, looking teary.
“Why are you talking this way? I hope you are not planning to do anything stupid?” Lucy asked, suspecting her moves.
Truly, Savannah was about to do something, stupid. There was a nearby river and she ran towards it, just to jump, but Lucy was fast enough to drag her back and they both fell on the ground.
“What the hell is wrong with you? A solution is the next thing to find, not death. Do not be a coward, and face what life throws at you. Come out victorious!” She shouted, sounding angry.
“I have been finding solutions all my life. All my life! And I have found none. Now that a new problem has come up, what gives you the assurance that I would find one, uhn!” Savannah retorted, feeling a whirlwind of anger and impatience.
“I have a suggestion and it is the solution to this particular problem. You shouldn’t try to leave the world, especially that your brother is still alive, depending on you.” Lucy said as she led Savannah slowly, back home.
~
“So what is the suggestion you want to make?” Savannah asked, looking impatient.
“I think you should contact the man who impregnated you. When you let him know about your pregnancy, he would be able to take care of this child. You could leave the child to him when you give birth, and while it is still in your tummy, he will give you all the things you need to hold on.” Lucy said, searching for an answer in Savannah’s eyes.
“What ridiculous idea is that? A man who I do not know about? Not even his contact! How the hell am I supposed to get in touch with him!” Savannah shouted in irritation.
“Oops! I am sorry, I didn’t think about that. But, do not worry, I will think of a better solution. I know you are wondering about the expenses and that of your brother’s surgical fee, and even taking care of yourself, as well as paying off the rent. But, a solution would be found soon. Just do not hurt yourself.” Lucy said, trying to stall time, for her not to feel there is no hope anymore.
~
A few days later, the TV was on and Savannah was blankly staring at it, along with Lucy who was excited to watch the news. Savannah was shocked when she saw a familiar face, which was the man who slept with her.
“This man, what is he doing on TV?”
“What do you mean by what he is doing on TV? Do you know him?” Lucy asked, baffled at why she suddenly acted that way. “He is the one! He is the one who impregnated me.” Savannah pointed her hand at the TV. “Are you for real? That is Andy Norman. He owns a hotel and he is a billionaire. Oh my goodness! Luck finally shone on you, Savannah. This man is a fu**ing billionaire and he would be able to cater for all you need.” Lucy screamed in joy, but Savannah’s heart was filled with anger and could not reason the way Lucy was. “Enough! I am not going to that filthy man. So, he was a billionaire who had a hotel and he came to a pub! He is devil-sent. He was sent to destroy my life in the twinkle of an eye, and I would never forgive him.” Savannah screamed, with her face looking red. Then she stormed out of the room. ~ Lucy had been trying to convince Savannah to accept her suggestion and tell him about the pregnancy, but Savannah kept saying no to it. “Come on, Savannah. Weren’t you
Being shocked was an understatement! Savanah couldn't believe her ears at all as her eyes danced around the big hall where Andy had pulled her to. She looked at her hand that Andy grabbed earlier and her eyes became moist with tears. " Who could have thought I was glad when this jerk touched my hand earlier?" She mumbled inwardly as she forced back her tears and raised her eyes to meet Andy's own. " People like me? Does that mean there are other women like me whom you've violated out there all in the name of your wealth and good looks?" Savanah asked but her eyes was so determined that it felt like she was going to pierce a hole in Andy's body. Andy cocked his head to the side and a small smirk appeared on his face. " Women out there? Violated? I don't think that's the right word. Whatever happened between you and I was our drunken state mistake and in no way will I allow you to insult me like this! I should be the angry one here because I am sure you weren't as drunk as I was,
Savanah turned her head to look at the hospital and the thought of seeing her brother when she was in so much pain hunted her. She hesitated as she took a step forward and turned back to face the road. " I can't go in like this. I can't let the doctor or anyone inside the hospital see me this way. " She told herself and immediately stopped another taxi. She wouldn't let anyone ask her any question that would increase her pain. While inside the taxi, she thought of where to go. It would be a bad idea if she decided to go home when she was feeling so down and she did not want to risk the state of her mind. " I should go to Lucy's side instead. " She mumbled and described the location to the driver. On getting to Lucy's house, she was surprised to see Lucy waiting impatiently in front of her house and she immediately walked over to her. " Lucy..." She called gently, attracting the attention of the bothered Lucy. Lucy turned her head abruptly and her eyes lit up the moment s
She looked at his face and was pleased to see how shocked he was to see her there. She held onto his suit tightly, not letting it go at all. “What the hell are you doing? What is the meaning of this?” He asked with anger while staring daggers at her. “I won't let you go! You have to listen to what I want to tell you, if not I promise to create an embarrassing scene here” Savannah looked around her and observed that everyone was trying to mind their business by diverting their gaze to something else. “Are you perhaps insane?!” Andy was irked already, even though he didn't mean to yell, he couldn't help himself. “Okay, let's go upstairs and talk like two mature adults'' He squinted his eyebrows while staring at her. Savannah slowly released his suit and he sighed in relief, then shook his head slightly while climbing the stairs. He walked towards the elevator and waited for her to stand beside him, then pressed the button for the sixth floor, which is the VIP area of his restauran
Savannah did not see that coming, she looked at him intensely to see if he was perhaps joking, but it was useless looking at him because his expression was unfathomable.“What? Are… you serious?” She shuttered with bewilderment.“What else did you want, Huh?” Andy asked with an angry tone. Seriously, he was exhausted of this whole thing. If only if he foresaw having an encounter with her, he would never have made the mistake of coming there. He used his index finger and rubbed his temple because he was starting to feel a headache.“I just asked if you're serious and nothing more” Savannah retorted as she folded her two hands on her chest and stared at him.Andy looked at her before saying, “I am serious, move in with me so that I can watch you closely. If I find out that the child is mine, I will accept it, but otherwise, I will deal with you. “Andy spoke without breaking eye contact with her.“Are you sure about your decision? How am I certain that you won't change your mind tomorrow
Savannah didn't know what to do, she wasn't thinking straight as she ran out of the house. All attempts by her friend to call her back were abortive as she ran quickly. Reaching at the roadside, she stopped a taxi and entered inside it before telling the driver the location of the hospital. She didn't know that she was crying until she felt a salty taste in her lips but that was the least of her worries.Immediately the driver stopped at the hospital, she ran out after paying him and made her way into the hospital. She noticed that some people were staring at her but she didn't care as she ran quickly into the elevator that was crowded with people. She really wished to push the elevator faster so that it could be faster. She was so anxious, she bit her lower lip to stop more tears from flowing down but it was effortless as more tears slipped down her cheeks.Immediately, the elevator opened, she ran to her brother's ward and saw a doctor and nurses running inside it.Out of impulse, s
Lucy stared at Savannah, she wanted to say something when the waiter came and dropped their food on the table and left.“Let's eat.” Savannah said to Lucy with a smile before she picked up her cutleries and started eating. They both ate silently, in the middle of their food, they heard someone call out to Savannah, and they turned abruptly and saw a lady waving at them. She was in her hospital gown and looked very pale.“Hey.” She greeted with great enthusiasm when she reached where they were.“Hey.” Savannah greeted with an awkward smile because she couldn't quite recall where they met.“Don't you remember me? I am Sandra, your colleague at the restaurant.” She explained with a little disappointment in her voice as she sat down in one of the vacant seats beside Savannah.“Oh, Sandra, how have you been? I apologize for not remembering you earlier, I had a lot on my mind.”Savannah responded and took a sip of her juice before keeping it back on the table.“No problem, are you still work
She looked out of the car window and smiled at Lucy, who was still waving at her with a bitter smile. Even when the driver drove off, she kept turning her head to get a glimpse of her friend who was still waving at the moving car, after a while, she turned back to the road with teary eyes as Lucy was no longer in sight. The drive to his place was peaceful as it gave her the opportunity to think about her life, which was about to take a new turn for two possibilities;the better or the worst. She didn't even realize that they'd arrived until the driver came down from the car and opened the car door for her.“Oh! Thank you.”She said while walking out of the car.He brought out her belongings which were in the car truck and helped her carry it into the house. She followed him closely like a little puppy until she heard a feminine voice that startled her.“Good morning Miss, my name is Grace, nice to meet you.”The lady in her mid-forties said, with her hands stretched for a handshake.“Nic
