The boardroom was suffocating.

A dozen suits sat around the long obsidian table, each man and woman looking far too eager to prove their worth. The projector hummed softly as another graph flickered onto the wall with percentages, profit margins, and a slide labeled “Manufacturing Solutions: Food Sector Division.”

I adjusted my tie and leaned back in my chair with a neutral expression and my mind elsewhere.

Ever since the company expanded its reach into multiple sectors like construction, technology, energy, and now food produce, the workload had tripled. And while Reeve Enterprises thrived on dominance, I was beginning to realize that success came with its own brand of headaches.

The presenter was a middle-aged man with thinning hair and an unfortunate enthusiasm for charts. I watched unimpressed as tapped his pointer against the screen.

(Emma’s POV)The first thing I heard was water. It wasn’t the river this time or the violent rush that had swallowed me whole but a steady, mechanical trickle echoing through the stillness. I could hear a small drip, then a beep. Then another beep.My throat felt dry, my chest heavy. When I tried to open my eyes, the light stabbed at my vision like a blade.Where am I?The ceiling above me was a plain white. I turned my head slightly and pain shot through my neck. A faint groan escaped my lips before I could stop it.That sound drew movement from outside and a door opened, and footsteps hurried closer.“Oh, thank God,” a voice gasped softly. A woman, older, trembling with relief. “You’re awake.”I blinked again, trying to focus. The woman came into view as she moved closer. She had silver hair, kind eyes creased at the corners, worry etched deep into her features.“Who…” I croaked, the word scraping painfully out of my throat. The woman’s hand trembled as she reached out and brushed m

  • A private deal with the billionaire ceo   CHAPTER 103

I hadn’t slept well in weeks, but last night was worse.Even in dreams, she haunted me.It started the same way. The city bathed in the soft amber light of dusk, a crowd moving around me, the sound of my own heartbeat too loud in my ears. Then, there she was across the street. Still as a memory. Her hair catching the wind, the same way it used to.I called her name and this time, she heard me.But instead of smiling, she turned. Her eyes were full of something I couldn’t name. Fear. Then she ran.I jolted awake, breath ragged, sheets tangled around me. For a moment, I didn’t know where I was, if I was still dreaming. The echo of her name tore out of me again and my pulse pounded in my throat. The red digits on my clock blinked: 5:30 a.m.I lay there, staring at the ceiling, my chest rising and falling in an uneven rhythm. The dream lingered and was vivid enough to sting, real enough to make me question everything. That wasn’t how it had happened the other day. She hadn’t run. The traf

The day had been too bright for my liking. The kind of day where the sunlight seemed to mock you. It was so warm and too golden. Abel had convinced me that we needed a break from the grind, a “normal” day, whatever that meant anymore. So now, I found myself on the sprawling green of the golf range just outside the city, with Abel, Alice, and Ruby. The sky was pale and endless, the faint hum of cicadas blended with laughter from nearby players. Alice’s voice carried lightly across the breeze as she teased Abel for missing another swing. Ruby leaned back against the wooden bench, sipping lemonade, her eyes twinkling with amusement.I stood a few feet away, half-watching, half-lost in my own thoughts. I had to admit… This was nice. The sound of Abel swearing under his breath, the girls laughing. It was the kind of joy I hadn’t felt in a long time.“Still better than last time,” I said dryly, smirking when Abel straightened and threw me a mock glare.“You’d think being a commander means I

Emma’s scream still rang in my ears when the world shattered. Her body slipped past my grasp, tumbling into the yawning void beneath the cliff, her bloodied figure swallowed by the raging waters below.“EMMA!”I lunged forward without a thought, heart tearing in my chest, but a pair of arms wrapped around me, steel-strong and unyielding.“Damon, no!” Abel’s voice was hoarse with desperation as he yanked me back, locking me in place. I struggled violently, rage and grief thrashing inside me, but his grip was relentless.“Let me go! She’s down there. I can get to her. I have to—”“She’s gone!” Abel’s words sliced through me like a blade, but I refused them, denied them, hated them.“No!” My roar tore from my throat, feral and raw. “She’s not dead. She’s not!”The intercom on Abel’s belt crackled, Ruby’s voice frantic. “What happened? Abel, Damon, talk to me! I heard two shots. Emma? Where’s Emma?!”The silence that followed was suffocating. Abel swallowed hard and pressed the button, hi

The cage was too small for air.I sat pressed against the cold iron bars, her knees drawn up to her chest, my arms locked tightly around them as though that fragile hold was the only thing keeping me together. My breath fogged in the stale, damp air, the sound far too loud in the suffocating silence.I had lost count of how many hours had passed since Dennis left her here. Days maybe, though the darkness of the room twisted time into something shapeless. Hunger dulled my stomach into a slow, angry ache. My body was weak, my mind restless, and still, my heart never stopped hammering in fear. Not for myself, but for Damon. For Ruby. For Alice. For everyone else who had trusted me enough to fight by my side. Now, knowing the truth, how could I even face them again? My father’s sins shadowed me like chains. Every memory Dennis unearthed had cut deeper than the bars that confined me. The story of her father, the criminal, the killer, the man whose actions had destroyed lives, whose betraya
