LOGINDANTE'S POV
"Any news yet?" I looked up from the file on my desk, to see Alexa poking her head through my door. I almost let out a groan. The girl was stressing me out, asking the very same question everyday, for the past three weeks. "And yet again Alexa, no." I eventually groaned, making her giggle. "It seems you want this child more than I do." "Maybe I do. The suspense is killing meeee." She cried. "Maybe we should just call them." "Patience." I bit out. "What if this whole thing turns up unsuccessful again?" "No, brother." She shook her head. "I have a strong feeling that we will be suprised this time." "We'd better be. Or who knows? I just might kill that Doctor this time around." I glared at no one in particular. "Dante, really?" Alexa shook her head in disbelief. Why was she acting like I'd actually do that? Maybe I would..... Just then, a call came in and I looked at the screen to see that it was Doctor Luigi. Oh... Wow. "Alexa....." I muttered mindlessly, standing from my seat, and stepping out from behind my work desk. "I think what you have been waiting for is finally here." I said, swiping my thumb across the answer button. "Hello?" "Mr Ferrari." He called, before releasing a sigh and giving pleasantries. "Good morning sir." "Good morning Doctor Luigi. You have news for me?" I asked, looking across the lawn from the window of my study. "Mr Ferrari....." He called again, sounding really hesitant. Right then, I knew he didn't have any good news for me. No matter how many times I was being let down this way, the disappointment always felt fresh. "Cut to the chase and tell me whatever news you have for me, Doctor. I am a very busy man." "Dante...." I heard Alexa whisper behind me, and I knew she could already tell the situation of things. Her voice held so much sympathy. "Mr Ferrari, we are so sorry." "Fine then. The procedure failed this time. How soon can another one be carried out?" I demanded, my jaw clenching. I was angry and I hated the fact that it wasn't necessarily the Doctor's fault. "Oh my...." Alexa whispered again, further making that pathetic feeling overpower me. I wanted to smash something. Badly. Hanging up the call on Doctor Luigi, I picked up the wine glass that had been on my work desk and threw it against the wall. Still, I didn't feel satiated. "Dante!" Alexa gasped. "I need to be alone. Please leave." I demanded. She stood immobile in her spot, just giving me that look of pity that I so much hated. "Dante, please....." "Now, Alexa!!!" My voice boomed, and she shook in her spot. Almost instantly, I regretted lashing out on her. Just then, my phone began ringing. I looked to see that it was Doctor Luigi. Again. What the hell did the man still want?! I'm sure he knew better than to give me words of encouragement. I didn't need them. "What is it?" I asked immediately I answered his call. "No... nothing Sir." He stuttered. "You hung up before I could..... before I could explain the actual situation on ground." "What?" A frown appeared on my face, as I wondered what more he could have to say. "Sir, we are sorry, but there may have been a mix up at the hospital." "Huh?" "What I'm trying to say, Sir, is that there may have been a bit of professional negligence on our side. We made a mistake during the procedure." "Go straight to the point, Doctor. My patience is fast running thin." "We may have inseminated your sperm into the wrong woman, Mr Ferrari." He blurted out, making everywhere go silent at once. What?! ************** I walked into the hospital, fuming with rage. Walking past the reception, I headed for Doctor Luigi's office. How the hell could these bast*rds have been so st*pid?!! The moment I stepped into his office, a jittery Doctor Luigi turned to me, backing the female Doctor he had been conversing with, before my arrival. It was so clear they had been talking about me. "Mr Ferrari......" "How did this happen?" I asked in a dead tone. "Mr Ferrari, please......" "If you love the position of your head on your neck, you wouldn't let me repeat myself, Doc." I warned, making him swallow visibly. "On that very day.... Miss Elizabeth Colombo had her appointment for 10am. But it turns out she didn't show up." "What do you mean, 'she didn't show up'?" My eyebrows kissed each other in confusion. "I mean.... we thought she did. She actually didn't show up that day. Yesterday I had called her to come for the pregnancy test, and she sounded confused. She asked why I was calling for a test, when she hadn't even shown up for the main insemination." "So what you're saying is that the surrogate your incompetent ass hired, did not show up for the procedure?! Even after receiving half of the agreed payment?" I was growing more annoyed and irritated as each second passed. "That is exactly what happened!" Doctor Luigi nodded frantically. "She didn't show up, and yet you inseminated my sperm into another woman's f*cking pussy?!" I growled. "Are you begging to have your head ripped off, Doc?" "That is what I was trying to explain." At that point, sweat had broken out on his forehead. "Another lady with the same surname; Collombo, had shown up at the hospital by 11am. Apparently, she had a different appointment for 11am. But the receptionist mistook her for the surrogate, assuming she came late, and sent her to the wrong room." No matter how this was supposed to make sense, it just didn't. "And you inseminated the wrong person? Didn't you know who you selected as my surrogate?!!" I was losing it now! "My apologies sir, but I do not carry out the procedures myself. The Endocrinologist does it." He pointed towards the female doctor that had been silent the whole time. "And a random woman let you put another man's sperm inside her, without objecting?!" I asked, wondering how much more stupid this situation could get. "Not exactly, sir." The 'endo-whatever' lady replied. "The procedure she had come for, had a similar process to that of an insemination. She wouldn't have known. And all the while, we had simply referred to her, as Miss Collombo." "And where the hell is this lady?! What is she saying about all these?" "About that sir..... She was taken for a urine test to confirm if she is....." He hesitated for a moment, before speaking. "...pregnant." Hearing that, my heart beat dropped dramatically. I had actually forgotten that this said lady could be...... Just then, the door to Doctor Luigi's office opened, and a couple of people I hadn't cared to look at, stepped in. "That's the lady, Mr Ferrari. She is the one we inseminated." Doctor Luigi pointed towards the door. I slowly turned to look at the supposed woman, and I felt the rug being pulled from under my legs. What the actual fuck?!! Collombo??EMILY'S POV. For what felt like forever, but was probably only a few minutes, I searched frantically for her, while the park continued to buzz with parents chaperoning their kids. I nearly pulled out my hair in frustration. I needed to act fast too, so I thought to call someone. Maybe Alexa. My hands shook as I opened my purse to take out my phone. While at it, my eyes breezed past the swing, and I may have caught glimpse of a familiar scarf. I did a rewind and looked back at the swing. The moment my gaze focused on the figure and I saw her calmly seated there, everywhere went silent in my head. A strand of tear fell from my eyes as I stood rooted in spot, unable to move. Right then, I thought about all the things that could have possibly gone wrong that night, if I had lost her indeed. It was only when a small voice inside my head urged me to get to her before she disappeared again, did I find it possible to move my legs. With each step I took towards her, my p
EMILY'S POV I was still dumbfounded, staring at the picture when I heard his voice behind me. "What the hell are you doing here?" He sounded angry. And maybe... just maybe, I sensed a hint of fear in his voice as well. I turned to him. "I... I..." I tried to say something, but no words were forthcoming. I was still shocked by the discovery I just made. He was once married to Luna? I looked down at the picture in my hand, and his eyes followed my gaze, his expression tightening as he looked at it. He collected the picture from me. "Sniffing around?" His voice was low and taunting, as he shot me an irritated glare. Sniffing around? Like I was a dog. My body suddenly felt so cold. The skin along my lashes began to itch me so badly, I knew I was about to cry. With weak legs, I walked out of the room, not even bothering to explain why I had come in the first place. "Emily." I heard him call me, much softly than how he sounded earlier. Somewhat remorseful. But I
EMILY'S POV I gently shut the door behind me after stepping out of Mrs Ferrari's bedroom. Dio, it was a lot. The doctor had come to check on her last night, and confirmed she had a panic-induced episode. He did say that she might seem more aware when she finally woke. Boy, was he right! Alexa was in panic mode. Her mother had indeed woken up, feeling different. Normal. What if she managed to notice the difference between uncle Massimo and her late husband? She had asked for her phone today. She had continuously demanded for Alexa and Dante's Nonno. She had demanded to know why they have been keeping her locked within the mansion. It was almost scary, how conscious she was. But most of all, I felt... worried. There was a certain manner at which she had looked at me this morning, and it made me feel like an impostor. It was a fleeting look that disappeared almost as soon as it came. I wasn't sure if I was over reasoning things. "How is she?" Alexa's worried v
THIRD PERSON'S POV Dante's face morphed into a raw look of disdain. This was certainly not a conversation he ever imagined having with Luna. "Are you threatening me?" He demanded, sounding quite terrifying. Luna may have folded right then. She swallowed nervously, unable to hold his eyes. Even though she once had this man wrapped around her finger, it had never disabused her of the belief that Dante could also be ruthless. "I just want you to give me another chance!" She suddenly yelled out in frustration. "Seeing you with her... makes my heart hurt so bad!" Dante wasn't sure what it was. Maybe it was the fact that his 'angelic' ex-wife who had always seemed so put together and classy, was having a literal breakdown before him, not caring that she looked crazy. In that moment, his heart clenched. Not painfully though. Maybe nostalgically..? But then, he was never one to succumb to blackmail. Definitely not from a woman who had hurt him so badly. Ohhh... He
TWO NIGHTS AGO. THIRD PERSON'S POV "Dante." Someone called his name and he paused, the voice all too familiar for him to not know who it was. In that moment, he wasn't sure whether to feel offended or not. He looked at Zach, trying to hide his apparent disappointment. After Zach had invited him for the suprise engagement party, one thing Dante had made sure to do was enquire whether or not Luna was going to be present. After unexpectedly meeting her at the yacht a while back, Dante honestly wanted to avoid anymore contact. "Dante." She called again, and his jaw ticked. "Can we talk for just a few minutes?" She requested. Dante wasn't sure what exactly had him feeling annoyed. Was it the way she managed to appear calm and put together while at it? He contemplated what response to give. Luna had been audacious enough to walk up to him in the presence of others, requesting his audience. Turning her away would make it seem as though he was still hurt. Like a weak ma
DANTE'S POV "What do you say?" Mamma asked uncle Massimo. I froze for a few seconds, unable to understand how the situation had escalated to this point. "Mamma, you can't share a room with him." I shook my head in disapproval, the words slipping out of my mouth before I could think it through. She turned her face to me, looking both offended and confused by my words. "Excuse me?" She shot back. "And why is that?" I went tongue tied. Of course, I did. What exactly was I supposed to say then? 'No, you can't stay in the same room as him, mamma. He is actually your late husband's brother'??? Most definitely not. "It's completely fine, mamma." Alexa quickly intervened. "We are more than happy to help you move your things into..." Her words were abruptly cut short when mamma suddenly went still. A sharp breath left her lips. Slowly, her hands rose to her head, fingers pressing against her temples like she was trying to hold something in place. "No…" She whisp
EMILY'S POV. "She's been asking about you non stop." Agatha said from the other end of the line. "You tend to forget that is normal." I scoffed. "She always asks of me when she is down from her constant high. It's a miracle she hasn't even forgotten my name by now." "Come on, Em. I think t
EMILY'S POV As we walked into the mall, Alexa held my hand like I was a child. The two bodyguards whose names I was yet to know, followed us closely behind. Alexa led us to the fashion section of the mall, and we both walked into a top designer store. Immediately we stepped in, a female atte
EMILY'S POV. My heart clenched again and again, when I recalled what he said. How he had said it. 'Relax, Alexa. Your friend definitely isn't my type. I wouldn't marry her if it wasn't necessary'. His words were not supposed to make me feel that way, but they did. The way I used to feel, li
DANTE'S POV Emily sat quietly by the window, her back straight, her hands tucked under her thighs like she was trying to make herself smaller. Last night replayed in my head, and I bit back the urge to curse out. Cazzo! What the hell had I been thinking? How did I let my lustful want for
