What the hell?
Anna was in full panic mode now as she gripped the bedsheets close to her naked body, wincing at the bright morning sunlight peeking through the windows on her figure. Unlike most people, she clearly remembered what she had done last night after getting drunk at a party, and that's what landed her in this mess.
She had sinned losing her virginity to a stranger, but the worst part was, that this man was someone she could not afford to mess with!
This person was the Alpha of the Dark Edge pack, Kodiak Cardinal.
In the Great Landmark, the territory was mostly divided into four parts, North, South, and East and West. Kodiak Cardinal was the alpha of the Dark Edge pack which was in the south, while his twin, Zayn Cardinal, was the alpha of the Frost Fang Pack in the north. Those two and their packs were the most powerful and feared wolves in the entire region, unlike her Stark Pride pack and Iron Crest pack, which occupied the east and west respectively.
Kodiak had stormed into her life claiming to be one of her two possible mates a few months ago, and since then, he had been watching over her like a silent guardian. As a submissive wolf, she had barely been able to speak more than five words to him, and she didn't dare to tell him she was in love with another person who was her other possible mate.
The son of her alpha, Darius was her childhood friend and crush whom she had dreamed of spending her life with. She had now ruined that dream by seducing this man like a cheap whore a day before her coming-of-age ceremony.
“You are awake.”
Anna froze at the sound of the deep baritone voice, turning around to see that he was right behind her. The sight of his strong, well-defined shoulders, broad chest, and chiseled pecs reminded her of how wild she had been with him last night.
“Greetings, Alpha Kodiak.” She tried not to stare at his dull red eyes for too long, but instead lowered her eyes onto the floor. This man was the most masculine and attractive man she had seen in her entire life, and he knew it.
Alpha Kodiak smiled gently at her, highlighting his deep dimples and strong jawline as he grabbed his wallet and brought out a fat wad of cash. “Although last night was a mistake, you will be 20 tomorrow, and you are my mate, so that doesn't matter. You should take a bath to get rid of my scent and use this money to take a cab straight home.”
Anna simply stared at the money in his hand, trying not to be offended by his offer. She was the one who had taken advantage of him and his body, yet he was still trying to take care of her. She grabbed the money and quickly entered the bathroom to wash off his scent.
A few minutes later, Kodiak saw her coming out of the bathroom all dressed with cautious steps as she tried to escape his bedroom, so he stood up immediately. “Anna.”
“Yes?”
He gave her a few words of advice, “Tomorrow night, your wolf will be coming out for the first time, and it might be a great deal for you to handle. Don't be scared and don't fight it, just let things happen naturally. If you need my help, just tell me.”
“Alright, I will.” Anna stormed out of the room, shutting the door with a quiet thud as she snuck out of the house. She could sense that the other male wolves living in the house were already awake, but they seemed to be giving her space to escape, so that's precisely what she did.
Kodiak was in a daze when his Beta barged into the room with a small grin etched on his stony face. He groaned loudly once he saw his friend's expression. “Don't say it.”
“I'm so proud of you, Alpha. You finally sealed the deal.” His Beta, Knox, commended him like he had accomplished a great mission, which made him feel embarrassed. He was the one who was used to being chased by women, not the other way around.
“That was a mistake.” A hot mistake, he internally corrected himself when he thought about the intense night filled with pleasure. Even if she did not know it, her wolf recognized him as her mate and yielded herself to him. “Do you think she will choose me tomorrow?”
“She has no f*cking choice,” Knox growled at his alpha's insecure words. “We have stayed here for six months, far away from home, just to win her heart, and you have taken care of her more than that puny boyfriend of hers. Her body now belongs to you, so there is no need to worry.”
“I pray to the moon goddess that you are right.” Kodiak let out a shaky breath as he gazed through the window. He had done everything to show his sincerity and willingness to make her happy, even though they were not close. He only hoped she would make the right choice.
The next night.....
Anna let her Luna and Aunty dress her up in front of the vanity table as she watched her transformation from a pretty young girl to a beautiful mature woman in front of the mirror. She was about to change into the dress her Luna gifted her when she heard a faint thud on her glass window caused by a stone.
When she finally opened the window, she saw a letter lying on her balcony floor, so she picked it up. It was from Darius, wishing her a happy birthday along with a wooden bracelet as her present, but the more she read the contents of the letter, the paler her expression became in the room.
She clutched the letter tightly to her chest and stayed frozen on the balcony for a long time, staring at the red moon that was shining bright in the sky with her heart pounding loudly in her chest. But all her thoughts were broken once again when she heard a knock on the door.
It was her aunt's voice saying, “Anna, dress up quickly and come out. Your adult coming-of-age ceremony is about to start.”
She stepped onto the high platform in the forest, almost cowering at the heavy dominance she could sense from the large crowd that had gathered around here tonight. Many important guests had attended this ceremony, mainly for Alpha Kodiak's sake, and it only added to the pressure she was feeling at the moment. Her Luna smiled warmly at her as she took a blanket and a set of clothes from another woman, placing them on the platform. She said to her. “Don't be nervous, Anna. Just remember your Alpha's words. You should do your duty as a member of the Stark Pride pack, so don't let us down.”“Yes, Luna.” Anna lowered her eyes at the same time she remembered her alpha's words listing the advantages of choosing Alpha Kodiak. Everyone wanted to use her situation to their advantage, but no one was worried about her heart. Once the Luna had left the scene, she began to feel the churning feeling in her guts and the uncomfortable, slow heat that spread through her body. She was filled with so
The next day…Anna refused to come out of her room after receiving the treatment the doctor had given her for her injuries. Her aunt, who had raised her, gave her a scornful look as she dropped the tray of food on the bedside. She hadn't taken a single bite when she heard another knock on the door a few minutes later. Tiffany entered the room and approached the bed with a concerned look. She gasped loudly in shock. “Anna, what happened? Is it true that Darius rejected you?”Fresh tears spilled out of Anna's eyes when she remembered the most horrible moments of her life. Everything was like a nightmare to her, something she wished she could wipe away from her memory. “Yes, Tiffany.” Anna sobbed despairingly. “Darius played me like a fool. He lied and deceived me. ”“I heard something today from my grandpa, who is a pack elder.” Tiffany looked around to make sure they were alone before she continued. “You know there are three states a wolf has, right? Normal, Rogue, and Savage.”“So?”
Anna tearfully packed her things into her bag with the help of her friend as she prepared to leave her pack. No one defended her this time, not even her aunty when they heard she was going to the Dark Edge pack. She felt very helplessly facing this mess all by herself with no one to help her. Most female wolves would rather slice their throats than endure such humiliation, so should she do the same thing right now? She was sure that her life in the future was going to be nothing short of hell, which made her wonder if she should just exit this world quietly…“The Dark Edge wolves are here,” Tiffany informed her, peeking through the window as the sunset glow shined through her bed. “I am so sorry, Anna.”“What about Darius? How is he doing?”Her best friend gave her an uncomfortable glance and turned away to stare at the wall as if she hadn't heard anything. Anna was about to demand an answer from her, but a deep, familiar voice responded instead. “He is getting married to his true ma
Anna later woke up in an unfamiliar room where she jerked up from the bed after she noticed she was naked under the blankets. She remembered she fainted when she was travelling with Alpha Kodiak but the rest memories were very blurry to her, she had no idea how she arrived here. Her eyes went to the orange sun setting in the west through her window. A knock on the door mysteriously appeared like an answer to her question, as an old woman walked into the room and placed a food tray and some clothes on the table. “Here you go. Alpha Kodiak said you must finish everything on the plate and come out immediately.”“Thank you.” Anna was famished as well so she did not hesitate to take the food being offered to her. Her eyes wandered around her surroundings before she asked the old woman. “Where am I?”“You are in DarkEdge territory.” The old woman gave her a side glance before she made her way to the door. Anna could sense her hostility so she did not bother to make any further conversation
When Anna regained her consciousness, she could faintly hear some angry and soothing tones beside her which made her scrunch her eyebrows. The people around her didn't seem to notice her small actions as they conversed with one another. Eventually, she recognized one of them and tensed on the bed as she listened...“What do you mean she is still adjusting to the pack? Does it seem like I brought her here to enjoy some sort of paradise?” Kodiak growled as he paced back and forth, ranting to his Beta who had returned his mate a few minutes ago. “I am just trying to take care of your wolf, Sir. You shouldn't go savage now you have returned to the pack. The elders have been keeping an eye on you ever since they heard about the rumors.” “Do you think those old geezers can do anything to me right now?” Kodiak bared his teeth ferociously and halted at one spot, turning his back at his unconscious mate lying on the bed. “If they had the guts to face me, they would have done it from the day
When Anna heard the door open, she immediately tensed again and retreated to a corner expecting to see the frightening Alpha but a woman showed up instead. She recognized her instantly and forced herself to stand straight up. This woman was her mate's mistress, and she had a feeling that she was not here for anything good. “Oh, sweetie...” Giselle dropped the tray on a nearby table when she saw Anna in such a defensive position. She approached her gently, giving her a sympathizing look as she sat on the bed next to her. She reached for Anna's hand and said. “You know, I think this is all my fault.”Anna scrunched her eyebrows in puzzlement, which urged Giselle to explain further. “When Kodiak told me he had found his mate, I wanted to stop him from leaving but he didn't listen. His father had just passed away, so he had many pressing tasks to complete in the pack but he didn't care about that. He only wanted to be near you. If I had prevented him from leaving, he would have never bec
Anna locked her room door to stop her mate from entering her room before she jumped on the bed crying and wailing under her bedsheets. She had gotten hungry when she woke up from a nap and reasoned that Giselle and her friends must have finished baking the cookies so she went to hunt for some food. She sensed Kodiak's return and wanted to see him so they could find a common ground. After thinking deeply for some time, she decided to try and reconcile with him, maybe he would eventually forgive her and let her go.But all of that is worthless now. She had seen and heard everything that she needed to know, and she couldn't help but feel hurt by all the words he had said about her back there. It was clear that he loathed her very existence, that was something that pained both her and her wolf because this situation was not entirely her fault at all. Her ignorance had caused her to hurt both of them, she had turned her mate into a savage wolf because of her need to be loved and her desire
Anna descended from her room after suffering a great humiliation in the afternoon and headed for the kitchen to get some food. On her way to the kitchen, she met Kodak and his Beta, Knox seated along with Giselle for dinner having a light-hearted conversation until she arrived. She quickly served herself some food and went straight to the dining room where she sat and nibbled on her food quietly, bringing in a cold air along with her. The Dark Edge alpha and his wolves immediately fell silent at her unexpected arrival, staring at her strangely as they watched her eat. The former jovial atmosphere was now filled with uncomfortable tension but Anna continued to pretend that she did not notice their looks at all. Giselle who couldn't tolerate her silence anymore finally spoke up. “Anna, I didn't know you would come down to eat, or else I would have gotten the maids to inform you that dinner was ready. How's the food?”Anna stuffed her face with food to avoid answering this two-faced sn
