Chapter 2 her saving grace

River

“Move!” The guards pushed us as we staggered in to wherever it is that they are taking us to, I was tired, drained and thirsty, for the past one month we have been locked up and starved we barely feed nor have water to drink, I can't remember the last time I took my bath, the chains on my leg and wrist has almost damaged my skin causing bruises and scars

They kept on dragging us with the chains, the pain was unbearable but it was not just me, we were many. They called us Humans saying we are going to be punished for meddling with their kind, but we did nothing wrong, we were just trying to survive. 

A huge door opened and we were pushed inside, immediately everyone sighted the person sitting on the throne, they began crying and begging for mercy, I did not dare to look because of the stories I've heard about the Alpha King of the wolves, a brutal and cold Alpha with no heart, I do not dare to look at him.

“Go down on your knees!” They forcefully pushed us to down, a kick landed on my back followed by a whip slash, my knees weakly crumbled, my body was sore from the constant unbearable tortures we’ve been through, I've lost the strength to utter a word, they don't even know what Mercy is, why should I exhaust my strength asking for what cannot be gotten.

“My King these are the humans caught living amongst us” One of the men complained

“How long have they been kept hostage?” Another voice asked, but I was sure that voice do not belong to the Alpha it belonged to the man standing beside him, 

“For the past one month, they built a shelter and lived in a hideout, until they were caught” 

My head was still down, I didn't dare look up cause I don't even want to know what the Alpha looks like, the news I've heard of him is enough to give me cold feet.

The hall fell into silence after the report, the Alpha wasn't saying anything, everybody was patiently waiting for him to give his command, 

My whole body was trembling and sweating. I've never been this scared in my entire life, I do not want to die, my mother did not give up everything to save me just for me to fall into the hands of death. 

“Sebastian…..” Came an emotionless, cold, and untamed voice. I don't even need a soothsayer to tell me who that voice belongs to

“Yes my Alpha” The man standing beside him now knelt down in before him

“You know the punishment already, why did you bring them here to taint my sight” His voice was filled with disdain, hate, but why do I feel like hate is an understatement, he loathes humans.

“Apology my Alpha I'll give out orders immediately” 

The man stood up and turned 

“Guards heed my command, take this Intruders outside, and punish them with death by hanging”

Immediately I heard that, my head snapped upward only for my eyes to meet with a sharp shining ocean eyes, and that was the first time I'm seeing the Alpha King, tears trickle down my eyes, how can someone look like a Greek god and still be heartless like a stone, but those eyes they look so familiar, like I've seen them before, I couldn't take my gaze away, it felt like I was hypnotized but No, I just realized I fell in love at first sight, with the same man that ordered my death.

I still have not taken my gaze away but why is he not looking away either, 

“Mercy please”

“Have mercy on us”

“Alpha please…….” The others continued begging for mercy, 

“Up!” The guards commanded as a heart wrenching whip descended on our back, I was immediately forced to look away from the Alpha, I bite my lip to subside the pain, and dragged my weak knees to stand up

“Wait….!” The man standing beside the Alpha suddenly commanded and everywhere turned silent again, the Alpha stood up from his throne and gracefully descended towards us, this time, I do not dare look at him, I face downwards and one after the other he was checking out each and every one of us, nobody dare to make a sound, 

It was getting close to my turn and I suddenly wish I could disappear, he was now checking out the person beside me, I was vibrating in fear, pinching myself to hide my nervousness, he finally stood before me, his black royal regalia swept the floor, his heavenly scent filled my system, it was my first time being so close to the Alpha

“Up” Two letter words that carry so much authority coming from him, I gulped nervously, afraid to look into his eyes when he's this close. A hand suddenly wrapped around my neck forcing me to look up, and once again my sight met with those piercing eyes, 

“Please don't kill me” I unconsciously whimpered as my tears blurred my vision and slowly trickled down, a droplet of my tears landed on his hand that was wrapped around my neck, 

As he stared down at the drop of tears on his hand, his face twisted, he immediately let go of my neck and turned but this time he didn't go back to his throne, he whispered something to the man standing beside his throne and Gracefully left.

“Guards heed my command, the punishment is postponed, take them back to the prison” 

“Huh?”

“Are we saved”

“Thank you Alpha” 

Everyone was happily thanking the Alpha for sparing our lives, as we were dragged and taken back to the prison, the guards pushed us inside and locked the prison door. 

“What just happened?” One of us asked

“I think we were saved because of her” Someone pointed at me,

“Is she our saviour?” 

I looked at myself and immediately shook my head, 

“My dear” The old lady beside me gently called 

“Do you know the Alpha?”

“No” I shook my head 

“Have you met him before?”

“No” I sighed

“It's just that I felt he pardoned us because of you, thank you for saving us, my daughter in law is pregnant I was so worried my grandchild would die even before coming to this world but you saved us, if we ever make it out of here, I will forever be indebted to you” 

I ended up smiling at her cause I don't even know what to say, they kept on saying I saved them but I don't even know who the Alpha is.

I remembered

the Alpha’s eyes, do they look familiar or is it because I've fallen in love with him?
