CHAPTER FOUR

Accidentally Mated To Alpha Atlas

.

Chapter 4

.

They waited in silence for another moment before there was a gentle knock on the door.

Atlas moved to open it and Anais saw Amelia, another omega that she was friendly with.

She smiled and waved at her. “I have a room for you,” she told them both. “If you’ll follow me?”

Atlas nodded and held his hand out for Anais to precede him out of the room. He put a hand on the small of Anais’s back as she walked barefoot down the hallway and into a new room. It had been set up with a small table and there was already food on it. It was a full meal, and Anais was impressed at the kitchen to have been able to produce it so quickly.

“Thank you,” Atlas told her as she led them in. He moved away from Anais and she bit her tongue to keep herself from whining.

“Can I get anything else for you, Alpha Atlas?.” she asked.

Atlas shook his head. “Thank you, we are fine for now. I’ll call for someone if we need anything.”

Amelia nodded and flashed a smile at Anais before she let herself out. She shut the door behind her softly and Anais was alone with her alpha again. She dug her toes into the plush carpet nervously as she waited for the alpha.

“Come, Anais,” he commanded gently. “I’m famished, so I know you must be. Please, don’t wait on me.” Atlas gestured to the chair closest to him and Anais moved to sit down.

Once they were seated she didn’t know how to start a conversation. She felt awkward and worried. She picked up her fork and realized that the alpha was right, she was starved. It seemed like they both needed to eat first and talk later. They ate in silence for most of the meal but as they started to slow, Anais saw Atlas shift in his seat.

Anais swallowed her food around the sudden lump in her throat. Her fear must have been evident because Atlas’ nostrils flared and he looked at Anais carefully.

“I’m not going to abandon you, Ana,” he said. He looked Anais right in the eye and she could see the alpha was telling her the truth. His scent was calm and settled and Anais relaxed slightly. She nodded and took a shaky breath.

“I wasn’t sure…” She said with a shrug. “So, then, now what?”

“Well, I thought we should get to know each other a little,” Atlas replied. “For example, I know what you do for a living-“

Anais winced slightly and she could feel the heat in her cheeks.

“- and it’s fine, Anais. I won’t pretend that I’m better than you are as I found myself here in the first place,” Atlas continued. Anais licked her lips and put her fork down, the rest of her appetite gone. She nodded and Atlas continued. “Do you know what I do for a living?”

Anais shook her head. “No, alpha. I’m guessing maybe I should, though, if you’re asking.”

“I’m the president and co-owner of Hawke Networks,” Atlas told her.

Anais could feel the blood that had rushed to her face drain out of it just as suddenly.

She thought she was hearing things.

There was no way that she had mated – oh no. Atlas Hawke, the alpha had introduced himself.

Alpha Atlas Hawke. She didn’t know the alpha, but she knew Hawke Networks. It was one of the main news affiliates in the country.

Anais was mated to a Fortune 500 company owner. No wonder Hazel was so angry.

“Anais?” Atlas prompted when she was silent for too long.

Anais shook her head slightly and blinked out of her thoughts. She looked at the alpha and tried to formulate words through her shock. She cleared her throat. “Madam Ivy didn’t tell me who you were,” She began. “I don’t know you, but I know your company.”

Atlas nodded. “My brother, Jovani, was with me at the lounge as well as another business associate of mine, Luc St. Tan.”

Anais swallowed and sincerely hoped that the alpha that had fucked her over the table was not her new brother in law.

“Luc has since flown back to Chicago and Jovani has been in charge of the company for the last three days,” Atlas continued.

Anais began to nod when she registered that the alpha had said three days. “Three days?” She asked. Her voice was an octave higher than usual and she knew that her scent was broadcasting her rising panic again.

“Yes, Ivy told me that it had only been three days. She’s gone to get your in-house physician,” Atlas told her. His scent was neutral and Anais tried to breathe deeply to quell her panic. “Whatever happens, Anais, I’ll take care of you.”

Anais’s wide eyes looked into Atlas’ calm ones and she tried to nod. She nearly jumped out of his chair when there was a slight knock on the door.

Atlas called for whoever it was to enter and Anais watched as Ivy and their doctor, Joshua, entered the room.

Anais liked Joshua. He was a kind, older gentleman who was always respectful and careful with the omegas. Anais trusted him. He was the first doctor she had ever been treated by who she trusted. Seeing him now, though, Anais thought she might throw up.

“Hello Anais,” the beta greeted her.

Joshua moved carefully and with purpose. He was always calm and efficient and it usually helped Anais to relax and feel comfortable, but today it did nothing for her.

“Joshua,” She managed to murmur. The doctor smiled sympathetically at her.

“I hear that we had a short heat,” he said as he set his bag on the bed. Anais could only nod silently. “Alright then, I’ll need to look you over. Do you want your alpha to step outside?” he asked Anais.

Anais’s head whipped around at the sound of the low growl from Atlas. The alpha quickly cut it off and Anais saw he had clenched his jaw. She could see it ticking in the corner of his jaw.

Atlas blinked and looked from Joshua to Anais.

“I’ll do whatever you want me to, Anais,” he told her.

Anais’s surprise was evident but Atlas only nodded that she had heard him correctly.

She looked back to Joshua and bit the inside of her cheek. “I’d like him to stay,” She told the beta. Joshua nodded and gestured for Anais to move to the bed.

“I’ll be right outside,” She heard Madam Ivy tell Atlas. “Let me know what you need.”

“Thank you,” Atlas told her as Anais sat on the bed. He moved closer to where Anais and Joshua were then and Anais tried to calm her racing heart and shallow breaths.

“Alright then, Ana, I’m just going to get some vitals first. Routine things you’re familiar with, okay?” Joshua’s soothing voice and scent of gardenias washed over her as she nodded and closed her eyes.

She followed Joshua’s directions to open her mouth and breath deeply. The doctor didn’t mention the fact that her pulse was high or her deep breaths weren’t as deep as they should have been, nor did he mention the fear and panic that was surely saturating the air in the small room.

He took a moment to check her mating bite and put some ointment on it to help the healing along.

Anais tried to calm herself down but she couldn’t. The situation was already a mess with an accidental mating, they didn’t need this on top of it.

Atlas told her he would take care of her no matter what happened, and Anais wanted to believe him. So far Atlas had shown that he would take care of her. He had defended her against Hazel’s hurtful words and had fed her. He told her he would keep Anais as his mate and wouldn’t abandon her.

She hoped it was true.

“Ana.” Joshua’s voice changed slightly and she opened her eyes. “I can take some blood to be absolutely sure, but I think that your alpha would probably be an easier test.”

Anais pressed her lips together. She didn’t mind Atlas being close and scenting her, that wasn’t it. It was just the fact that she would have an answer one way or another if Atlas scented her. Her alpha would be able to detect the faint sweetness in her scent. The blood test would only back up her alpha’s nose.

She looked at Atlas and nodded her head.

Atlas moved closer from where he was still standing separate from them. Anais moved over on the bed slightly so that Atlas had more room to sit down and she laid her sweaty hands flat on her thighs to stop them from shaking.

Anais sucked in a deep breath of Atlas’ icy scent and tipped her head, exposing her throat and scent gland on the opposite side from where her mating gland was.

She closed her eyes as she felt Atlas’ arm snake around her waist and pulled her close.

Anais shuddered when she felt the alpha’s hot breath on her skin. Atlas pressed his nose into the juncture between Anais’s neck and shoulder where the scent would be strongest and ran his nose up and down.

The slight stiffening of the alpha combined with the increase in excitement in his scent told Anais all she needed to know.

She looked warily at Atlas when he pulled away. He smiled at Anais and cupped her jaw. She didn’t need the confirmation, but she knew that Joshua did.

Atlas nodded his head and looked to the doctor. He pulled Anais closer to his side as he spoke. “I can smell it. There’s a faint hint of sweetness there.”

Joshua nodded and smiled.

“Congratulations,” he told them. “If you can smell it and your heat stopped on day three, Ana, that means that you probably pupped the first day or very early on the second. It might have been one reason that you mated her, Alpha Atlas.”

“Thank you, Joshua,” Atlas told him quietly. He turned to Anais and gently tilted her chin up until she was looking into her clear blue eyes. “Do you want to do a blood test to confirm?”

She licked her lips before she spoke. “No, Alpha, your nose is just as good.”

“Then we’ll forgo that and get you home.” He turned back to Joshua. “Would you tell Ivy that we are finished and that Anais will need to get her things from her room? I assume that I will not be allowed up to the private quarters.”

“I’ll do that,” Joshua told him as he packed up his bag. “Good luck to you both,” he said as he headed to the door.

Anais didn’t resist when Atlas pulled her into his arms and tucked his nose into her neck. Anais let him mold her how he saw fit and relaxed against his strong chest.

She breathed in and out, focusing on the scent and the calm the alpha was exuding.

She heard the door open and close and knew that Ivy was there again.

“Joshua said that Anais needs to get her things from her room,” she said, confirming that was correct.

Anais heard the rumble of Atlas’ deep voice as he answered her. The vibrations through his chest to Anais’s ear helped to calm her down further. She took a deep breath and took all the pieces of the last few days and pulled them apart in her brain.

Heat.

Mating.

Unemployed.

Pup.
