Chapter 22

Before I could answer he already pulled me to the bed beside him. He put a small distance between us but our hands remained the same.

He placed his other arm over his head, covering his eyes but I knew he was fully awake. I stared at the ceiling, I didn't know what to do. I don't know how to act to Hugo with those stares he gave me.

It just felt different coming from him.

"I know I'm being selfish for asking for your time. I just really need someone to be with before I lost my mind–"

"You don't have to apologize for it. I understand your situation and you are my responsibility." I cut him off, squeezing his palm lightly to make him feel better. "We might not have the normal relationship of a husband and wife, I still treat you as a special friend, Hugo. A best friend who I can trust and lean on." I gave him a smile but he returned it with a forced one.
