Aaron looked like he’d tear the paper the moment Emily agreed.

The bar’s AC was blasting. With the customers gone, the room felt even colder. Aaron and Emily stood facing each other, tension thick in the air.

Emily stared at him, her voice cool and steady. “Let me make this clear. I’m not giving up either.”

A flicker of surprise passed through Aaron’s eyes.

“YOU think you can throw your money and power around and I’ll just roll over? Please. I’ve dealt with you long enough to know—this is all you’ve got?” Her eyes sharpened, heavy with disdain.

Regarding that front desk staff issue, I told HR to deal with it. If there really was any rude behavior, they’d know exactly what to do.At the same time, I got a letter from the court—a formal notification asking the divorce and to confirm our marital status.Of course I don’t agree to the divorce. So I just tossed those papers aside. I’ll drag this out for as long as I can. Time’s on my side.Meanwhile, the contract for the bar was finalized. I gave it a quick once-over—looked good and told my assistant to get Francie to sign it.The bar was originally a joint venture between Francie and his friend Jett. I had someone go chat with Jett—just hinted at a few “collab opportunities” and the guy folded like paper. No hesitation. Sold his friend out on the spot.He handed over his proxy rights for his shares, which meant I now had full control over that investment. It was just a $200K deal—basically pocket change to me. I didn’t want to resort to this, but I just wanted a way to get Emily

But Frank didn’t buy it. He even looked kind of pissed. Said, “You’re telling me everything you’ve done for Amelia is just out of gratitude?”To me, yeah. That’s all it is.I dragged on my cigarette, puff after puff, listening to them talk. They started saying they never expected Emily—who always seemed so soft, to be this firm about divorce.I muttered, not willing to accept it, “She just hasn’t thought it through yet.”Emily’s just pissed right now. Once she’s out there long enough, hits a few walls, realizes how harsh the world can be—she’ll start missing the quiet days of being a stay-at-home wife.Coming back is just a matter of time. There’s no way she’s living comfortably in that old, busted apartment.Frank said he was gonna call her, see if she’d come pick me up. I didn’t stop him.The phone rang in the private room. I held my cigarette, trying to look casual, chill. But when I heard her voice on the other end, my hand trembled just slightly. And just like that, whatever flic

But she said she didn’t need my consent anymore—I’d already signed it.I froze. What do you mean I already signed it?! I snatched the papers and flipped to the last page. There it was. My signature. Clear as day in the bottom right corner. How…?That thing she got me to sign last night—that was the Statement of Intent to Divorce? She had this planned all along. I actually fell for it. Was I a goddamn joke to her last night? Did she hate me so much that she could give herself to me like that—pretend everything was fine, just so she could slide the blade in quietly and walk away for good? She even said she didn’t want a cent, just that old apartment I bought her years ago. I couldn’t even process the rest of what she said, my eyes were glued to that damn paper. She said being my wife for three years meant something to her, that she’d put real love into this. And what about me? Like hell I didn’t! Every part of me in those three years was real.I stared at her—so calm, so empty. How the

After that conversation, something shifted between us—it got weird. Emily never brought up the baby topic again. One morning, she got up early and actually started a conversation. Said she wanted to talk to me about going back to work. A friend had recommended her for a position. If she really wanted to work, I told her she could just join Lopez—I could easily give her a cushy job, and nobody at the company would dare give her attitude. But she still insisted on joining another company. I agreed. I didn’t want to control every damn thing and start another fight. She seemed to warm up a bit after that. I saw the softness return to her eyes, and something in me stirred. I cupped her face and kissed her—sweet and soft and suddenly my whole body lit up. I kissed her deeper, pried her lips open with mine, unable to hold myself back. I picked her up and carried her straight to the bed. But just as I was getting into it, she turned her head and said she wasn’t feeling well.I paused, disap

I went with Emily to visit her grandmother, Ruth. But I couldn’t understand why, out of nowhere, she suggested letting Ruth be discharged early. Ruth was in the best private suite in the hospital, with two full-time caregivers rotating around the clock. Emily had never objected before. So why now? After we left the hospital, Emily stayed quiet, visibly upset. When I said Ruth should stay hospitalized a little longer for safety, she sighed and snapped, “I don’t wanna fight with you. You’d win anyway. You’ve got power, money… in the end, you always get to decide.”I was doing what I thought was best for them. Was that wrong? Why did she have to say it like I was some kind of tyrant? Then she looked me straight in the eye. “Aaron, do you think just because I haven’t worked these past three years, I’ve gone stupid? Or is it that you really think I’m that naive—easy to lie to?”I didn’t know how to respond. Honestly, her mood swings lately had been erratic—unpredictable. It made me wonder

What happened next was a total disaster. Because I didn’t want to make a scene at the office, I raised my voice at Emily—something I instantly regretted.I let frustration speak first. “You’re being completely irrational! When did you turn into this?”She didn’t yell back. Just scoffed, cold as hell, with that look that cut deeper than anything she could’ve said.I didn’t know how to defuse the chaos. All I could think of was getting her out of there before things got worse. I grabbed my phone. “Leo, get up here. Now.”I needed her out safely. I needed to clean this up.Leo showed up in less than two minutes. I snapped, “Take her home. If she disappears, you’re responsible.”She left without a word, didn’t even glance back. And for a second, I hesitated. But maybe letting her cool off at home was better—for both of us.After she left, I told Amelia to go too. Said I’d think about the collab later. I tried focusing on work, but Emily’s expression—those eyes, just wouldn’t leave me. It
