Chapter 2

Alvize:

“What do you mean that I’m going to be working with this man?” She asked, snapping at her boss as both of them were inside his office. Viktor and I were sitting outside as we waited, though I could hear every single word they said. I chose not to react. I didn’t care enough to do so. The woman was not going to be working with me for long anyway. It was only a matter of time before she chose to just drop the case.

“Unfortunately, Elena, at this point I have no time to negotiate with you about this. You are going to work with this man, because if not, we are going to lose the case.” He said, clearly trying to talk some sense into her. The thing was, I was not here to negotiate, nor was I here asking. If she didn’t want to work with me, then she would lose the case. That was that. Either way, whether it was losing it to me or to another federal agency, her boss knew that they were screwed. I was more 'approachable', and I wasn't searching to be a hero, I could leave that title to them.

“What do you mean we’re going to lose the case? We’ve been working on this for months.” She asked, clearly angry with what her boss was telling her. The thing was, I didn’t really care. It was one of my men that died, and he died over a case that they’ve been fighting to solve for months. Therefore, if it started with one, then it would end up with another, and that was not something that I would accept.

“Do you think that we would be able to work with her?” Viktor, my beta, right hand, and best friend asked.

“I don’t know, but at this point I really don’t care. If she chooses to stay, then she is going to deal with the consequences. I was not going to let the case die just like the others did. Marcello was one of our men, and you know for a fact that I don’t give up on my family.” I said, looking at Viktor, who nodded.

The two of us have come here to fix up a few things, however, the last thing we expected was to lose one of our men in a case like this. Dying in something that we were taking care of was something, but dying in something like this was another thing that I wouldn’t easily accept.

The case was faked for the media or at least to mislead the cops as a car crash. However, judging by the cuts on his fist, the bruises on his stomach, and the two stabs were on his shoulder, I could easily tell there was a fight that ended up with him dying. However, how it had happened or how he ended up in the car, I didn’t know. It was something that I planned to find out and whoever had done it was going to pay hard for it.

She walked out of the office, followed by Mr. Joseph. Her eyes met mine, and I frowned as my wolf reacted to her presence. I had caught her scent back at the highway, it was one of the main reasons why I didn’t hesitate to rush away from it. However, I thankfully masked my expression. Making sure not to let her know that I felt the mating bond. The last thing that I needed was to be mated to a cop.

“Now that discussions are over, you two are going to be working together. However, this is going to be done here at the station.” Joseph said, looking Elena, whose eyes were fixed on mine.

“Now that is where you are wrong, Joseph,” I said as I looked the man in the eye, waiting for him to respond, but the man didn’t find the words to say about this. He knew not to mess with me. I was at the case area long before their men arrived. Having gotten a call from Giovanni, one of the men who was searching for Marcello when he went missing for hours. Thankfully, he somehow managed to trace his phone leading us to where his body was. But pedestrians were quick to see the body long before we could do our own investigations before the cops arrived.

“If she is going to work with me, she would be working back at the Estate. I will not have the information that I find sent to you.” I said coldly. I knew that she would be giving them the information that they asked for, but that was something that the two of us would be discussing later. For now, I was going to give them what I wanted them to know.

“The woman is an employee at this station, Alvize.” He said, trying to find other means of negotiation or understanding. But that wasn’t going to happen. I wasn’t stupid as to work in a place like this one.

“That is the least of my concerns, Joseph.” I said, shrugging my shoulders at the man. “If you want the two of us to be working together, then you are going to accept things my way.”

“And who the hell are you to decide what I do accept and what I don’t?” Elena asked, frowning in confusion as she glared at me. I glared back at the woman. Ignoring the spark that I felt coursing through my veins.

I took a step toward her, towering over her body as I looked down at her. The woman’s eyes were fixed on mine, letting me know that she was challenging me. And that was not something that I liked.

“I did not ask you, nor did I speak to you, Elena.” I said, my voice threateningly low as I gave her the silent warning to calm down. “If anything, it was your boss who suggested the two of us work together. If you do not like it, then you can feel free to stay here”

Elena put her hand on my chest, right where my heart was beating, and I couldn’t help the fire that I felt coursing over my body as I looked down at her. She pushed me back before removing her hand and looking me in the eye.

“This case is mine, Alvize.” She said, keeping her tone controlled. “Whether or not you choose to want to work with me does not concern me.”

“Well, malyshka, it seems to me that you missed the point.” I said, giving her a cold smile “The man that died out there is one of my men, and my apologies, I won’t let you kill another case just like you do the others.”

I waited for her to object, however, she simply nodded in response.

“If you wish to work with me on this, I expect to see you at the Estate tomorrow at eight in the morning.”

“And if you don’t?”

“Then you are going to deal with the consequences, malyshka.” I said, giving her a cold smile as I pulled out a card from my wallet, handing it to her. The card had my number for her to get the location of the Estate “I’m not a man that you mess with. Therefore, believe it or not, the EYE case would be the least of your concerns if you choose to mess with me.”
