I froze in my spot as I looked at her cunning smirk. I quickly got back on track, though. I didn’t want her to think that I went somewhere last night. 

“What do you mean? I was just here,” I said innocently.

Her smirk slowly transformed into a scowl, and I saw her tighten her hold onto my sheets, wrinkling the white cloth. 

“Tell me the truth while I’m still acting nice. Where did you go last night?”

I sighed and still continued on with my act. “I told you, mom. I didn’t go anywhere last night.”

She scoffed. “So, now I’m your mom when you’ve done something wrong.”

I held in the urge to roll my eyes. My parents usually wouldn’t care about my well-being. If I had gone missing for a couple of days, they probably would not have noticed until they saw my face plastered all over the media. What makes this situation different?
