Father's Influence

Author: Audrey
(Vivian's POV)

The evening air was crisp against my face as I walked out of the Pack Medical Center. My shift had finally ended, but my mind refused to let go of this morning's confrontation.

My own words echoed in my head, making me wince. Had I gone too far? Perhaps. But he had hurt me deeper at Lucas Hayes's birthday celebration two years ago, and he'd never apologized for that.

"If I can't mark my true mate, can't I just mark someone else to make do?"

I remembered the crushing silence that followed his declaration, the pitying glances from wolves of both packs. How I'd stood there, glass shattered at my feet, my dignity in pieces.

"Maybe I should apologize," I whispered to myself, pulling my coat tighter against the evening chill.

After all, what good would it do to spend our last month before severing our mate bond in constant conflict? We'd already wasted enough time on resentment and silence.

Emma would call me pathetic for even considering an apology. "He should be grove

(Vivian's POV)I was halfway through my dinner when I heard the front door open. The familiar scent of rain-soaked forest drifted through the air, announcing Sylvan's arrival before he even stepped into the dining room.He entered with his usual commanding presence, dressed in a gray suit under a dark coat. The ensemble matched his brooding cynicism perfectly—so different from his brother William's gentlemanly yet serious style. William always had a warm smile regardless of circumstances, while Sylvan's expressions were calculated, revealing only what he wanted others to see."You're eating," he remarked casually, shrugging off his coat. "The food smells good tonight."I nodded slightly, watching as he took his seat across from me. "Martha outdid herself.""I see that." He glanced at the spread on the table, a small smile playing at his lips. "Venison with wild mushrooms. Impressive."Martha beamed from the corner where she was arranging dessert. "Thank you, Mr. Thorne. I wanted

(Vivian's POV)The tension in the room was suffocating as Sylvan stared at the rabbits nestled in our bed."I'll take care of this," I said, stepping cautiously toward the bed. "You should go to the guest room."A low growl rumbled from his chest. "This is my bedroom.""And you're about to lose control over some injured rabbits," I countered, trying to keep my voice steady. "Please, Sylvan."For a moment, I thought he might refuse. Then, with visible effort, he reined in his wolf and stepped back."Fix this," he ordered through clenched teeth. "All of it."Without another word, he turned and stalked out of the room, the door slamming behind him with enough force to rattle the picture frames on the wall.I exhaled shakily, the sudden silence almost as overwhelming as his presence had been. Phoebe stirred within me, concerned but not frightened. She'd never feared Sylvan's wolf, even when perhaps she should have."Miss Vivian?" Martha's tentative voice came from the doorway. "Is

(Ruby's POV)Emma Rivers let out a dramatic sigh as she stared at me. "Get this through your bandaged head. Vivian doesn't need to share her personal life with you or anyone else."I couldn't believe how protective this she-wolf was acting. The way Emma positioned herself beside Vivian's desk reminded me of a guard dog."Why so secretive?" I pressed, eyeing Vivian. "Everyone knows about your mate already."Vivian's face paled slightly. She exchanged a quick glance with Emma."Actually," Emma interjected with a mischievous grin, "if Vivian's with anyone, it's me. We've been secret lovers for years."I scoffed, unable to contain my disbelief at their pathetic attempt to distract me."Please. I know exactly who her mate is—"Before I could finish, Vivian lunged forward with surprising speed. She shoved something bitter into my mouth—some kind of healing herb. I gagged at the unexpected assault."That should help with your pain," Vivian said sweetly, though her eyes held a clear w

(Vivian's POV)"It started three years ago," I began, noting how both Ruby and Emma leaned forward eagerly. "But it wasn't about seduction or drugs."I shifted uncomfortably in my chair, these memories still raw despite the years that had passed."There was an incident in the pack," I continued. "A wolf sacrificed his life during a territory dispute. He was a gamma, not high-ranking, but respected."Ruby's visible eye widened with interest, her bandages suddenly less prominent as her curiosity took over."The Thorne pack didn't compensate his widow properly," I explained. "She became desperate, started spreading rumors about the pack leadership neglecting their duties.""Classic elite pack behavior," Ruby interjected. "They always underpay the lower ranks."I nodded slightly. "Eventually, she couldn't bear it anymore. She took her own life in the central pack grounds where everyone would see."Emma winced. She'd been in the territory when it happened, though we'd never discusse

The northern territory villa became our haven for that magical month. Snow piled high outside while inside, I discovered a new side of my mate. Each morning, I'd wake to the scent of breakfast cooking. Sylvan had already been up, busy in the kitchen."You don't have to cook every morning," I told him once, watching him flip pancakes. He looked back at me, his ice-blue eyes warm. "I know I don't have to. I want to."This caring version of Sylvan felt strange. So different from the cold mate who had marked me out of duty."Breakfast in bed today," he announced. "Go back and get comfortable."I raised an eyebrow. "I'm already up.""Then I'll just have to carry you back," he threatened playfully.I ran laughing back to the bedroom with him chasing behind me. Phoebe, my wolf, stirred happily inside me. When he caught me, his strong arms wrapped around my waist and gently placed me on the bed."Stay," he ordered with a mock stern voice before kissing my forehead and fetching our bre

(Vivian's POV)The emerald pendant hung heavily around my neck, a painful reminder of what could have been. Spring had arrived with all its promises, but the celebration Sylvan had planned never came true.I noticed the change gradually. First, a missed dinner. Then a weekend away on "pack business." Soon, Sylvan was coming home later each night, if he came home at all."I'm sorry," he'd say, never meeting my eyes. "The Blood Moon expansion requires my attention."I believed him—wanted to believe him. But the man who once rushed home to care for me during a fever now barely noticed me when we shared a room. One night, as Sylvan worked on his laptop, I brought him tea. Just like he used to do for me."Thank you," he said, never looking up from his screen."Sylvan," I said carefully. "I was thinking about that celebration you mentioned..."His fingers stopped typing. "What celebration?"The forgotten promise hurt deeply. "The belated mating ceremony you were planning."He looke

(Vivian's POV)The Blood Moon Headquarters loomed before me like a fortress. Strange how after three years of being mated to Sylvan, this was my first time seeing the physical manifestation of his life's work. The building was sleek and modern, all glass and steel, yet somehow intimidating with its sharp angles and the subtle wolf insignia etched into the main doors.I'd heard rumors about this place. Blood Moon operatives whispered about it with reverence in the pack territories. Even Emma, with all her gossip connections, knew little about what happened behind these walls.James pulled the car to a stop at the security checkpoint. "Are you sure about this, Miss Bennett?"I nodded, pushing down my rising anxiety. "I need to see him."My hands trembled slightly as I stepped out of the car, the cool morning air doing little to calm my nerves. Phoebe stirred restlessly within me, sensing my determination but also my fear.A uniformed guard approached, his expression professionally

With everything happening, I'd completely forgotten about the elder's memorial."I'll be there," I promised, already calculating the fastest route to the pack gathering grounds."See that you are," Elizabeth replied coldly. "Your absence would reflect poorly on Sylvan."The line went dead before I could respond. Always about appearances with her. Never mind that her son had just been caught in human territory with Clara Redcliff.I hurried to my office, throwing open my locker to find my formal black dress. Sarah Parker appeared in the doorway as I changed."Dr. Bennett, emergency in room three," she announced breathlessly. "Failed transfor

And he's been getting Anna to deliver flowers to me.""Using a sick pup as his messenger?" Emma's eyebrows shot up. "That's... actually kind of sweet and manipulative at the same time.""That's Sylvan in a nutshell," I replied with a small smile I couldn't quite suppress.Emma stopped walking and turned to face me, her expression serious. I asked, my voice sharper than intended.Sylvan blinked, clearly caught off guard. "What?""Which white wolf are you referring to?" I pressed, my heart hammering against my ribs. "I'm not the only one, you know."His brows furrowed in genuine confusion. "What are you talking about?""Clara Redcliff," I said, the name itself leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. "Her wolf has white markings too. I heard the packmates discussing it."Understanding dawned on his face, followed quickly by exasperation. Anna asked, her voice stronger today than it had been in weeks.Sylvan leaned back in his chair, his rain-forest scent likely filling the small room. "Because she wouldn't accept them from me."Anna frowned, her small wolf flickering briefly beneath her pale skin. "Why not? The flowers are pretty.""It's... complicated," Sylvan replied, his ice-blue eyes softening in a way I rarely saw. "Adult wolves sometimes have disagreements.""Is it because of her mate?" Anna asked innocently.I froze. How did Anna know about my mate situation?Sylvan's eyebrows rose slightly. "What do you know about her mate?"Anna leaned forward conspiratorially. "I

(Vivian's POV)I walked through the Pack Medical Center's corridors, my mind still buzzing with questions about the anonymous benefactor. The hallways seemed brighter somehow, filled with an energy that had been missing for weeks. When I reached the silver poisoning recovery ward, I heard Marie's voice before I saw her. She was animated, her usual weariness replaced by excitement as she spoke to the elderly wolf in the next bed."...and they've arranged for specialists from the Northern Pack! Can you imagine? My Anna might have more time now."I paused in the doorway, not wanting to interrupt her moment of joy. Marie had spent so many moons in quiet despair. This change was beautiful to witness. She noticed me and her face lit up even more. "Healer Bennett! Her wolf was stronger today, stirring more visibly beneath her skin."The new treatment begins next wee

(Vivian's POV)The elevator doors closed with a soft chime, trapping me with Sylvan. His rain-forest scent filled the small space, making me press against the opposite wall."Good morning, little white wolf," he said, his ice-blue eyes watching me.I stared at the metal doors, refusing to look at him. Phoebe remained quiet within me."Giving me the silent treatment again?" Sylvan asked. "Very mature."The numbers on the display panel moved slowly. I counted each floor we passed."I could pick you up after your shift today," he offered, moving closer. "Take you home."I couldn't help my sarcastic response. "Oh? Are you finally taking me to the pack council office so we can end our partnership?"To my surprise, Sylvan's expression became serious. "Yes. I'll take you there today after work."I turned to face him, caught off guard. "You will?""Absolutely," he nodded, checking his watch. "I can be here at six."Something wasn't right. Then it hit me. • Alpha Begged His Doctor Luna come back   Long-Held Feelings

(Nathan's POV)I still remember the first time I saw Vivian Bennett. It was during the Eastern Alliance negotiations, five years ago.My father had just passed leadership of the Sterling Pack to me. As my first official act as Alpha, I traveled to Thorn Pack territory to renew our hunting agreements. The formal negotiations had ended for the day. Most wolves were gathered in the main hall. I needed fresh air to clear my head, so I slipped out into the moonlit gardens. That's when I saw her.She stood alone in the medical herb garden, bathed in silver moonlight. Her movements were graceful as she gathered herbs, placing each one carefully in a small basket.I wasn't the only one who noticed her. Several visiting wolves paused their conversations to watch. There was something mesmerizing about her focused dedication, completely unaware of the attention she drew."Who is she?" one of the Northern Pack emissaries whispered beside me.Before I could respond, another wolf answered: "

(Vivian's POV)The cool night air hit my face as I pushed through the door of The Moonlight Bar. My cheeks burned with embarrassment and frustration. How could Sylvan create such a scene? And Ruby—why would she blurt out Nathan's feelings like that?I'd barely made it ten steps when a strong hand caught my wrist. I didn't need to turn to know who it was. His rain-forest scent enveloped me immediately."Vivian, wait." Sylvan's voice was low, almost pleading.I spun around, pulling my arm from his grip. "Haven't you caused enough drama for one night?"His ice-blue eyes were intense in the moonlight. "We need to talk about what just happened in there.""What's there to talk about?" I snapped. "You completely embarrassed Nathan for no reason."Sylvan's jaw tightened. "No reason? He's been pursuing my mate behind my back.""He hasn't been pursuing me! And even if he had feelings, he never acted on them." I crossed my arms tightly. "You didn't need to humiliate him in front of everyo

A hush fell over our table as everyone stared, first at the growing wet spot, then at my empty glass still tilted in my hand.I should have felt embarrassed. Or apologetic. Instead, a strange satisfaction warmed my chest.Emma's jaw dropped so far I thought it might hit the table. Ruby froze with her own drink halfway to her mouth. Nathan's eyes widened with a mixture of shock and what looked almost like admiration.I finally dared to look at Sylvan directly. His ice-blue eyes were surprisingly calm as he surveyed the damage. The faint hint of a smirk played at the corner of his mouth."Well," he said, reaching for a napkin, "if you wanted to buy me a drink, little white wolf, there are more conventional methods."His casual response was more infuriating than anger would have been. I had literally poured alcohol in his lap, and he was making joke
