I ran.

I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I ran even though my vision was unclear. I ran, now wondering where I was heading. I ran. I ran to forget. I ran to ease the pain. I ran to die.

That’s what my subconscious suggested. I left the pack house without looking back. I rushed past the entryway, pushing through the small crowd of teenagers joking about something. I didn’t want them to see me crying, so I hid my face and slipped out of the building, heading towards the mountainside.

I crossed the flower field and found myself in the dark part of the forest, heading to the mountains. I followed the sound of the river and ran along its stream toward its beginning. His every word resounded in my head like a wrecking ball, destroying the little confidence I had in me. I knew I wasn’t enough, but to hear it was devastating. And to listen to it in such a cruel way was killing.
