“Listen to me, love, let me tell you the difference between a hero and a villain. A hero like your Aziel will sacrifice you for the greater good. I have no such compunction. I will destroy this world for you,” Ryker whispered into Thyra’s ear. Three years ago, Thyra Rivers watched her family die at the hands of wolves—the night she begged them to go. Now, she’s a hunter fueled by dark magic, with every kill branded into her skin. After a reckless night with a stranger, she wakes marked once more… and this time, it’s personal. Her hunt drags her into the heart of a war between two powerful packs—one ruled by the wolf she’s falling for, the other by the villain who claims he’d destroy everything for her. But in a world of beasts and blood, how do you choose between the monster you crave… and the one you were born to kill?

Chapter 1

Alpha Ryker Donovan did not immediately leave the meeting room after Beta Alvan left to carry out his order.

In the silence of the now dark room where he had switched off the lights, he listened to the continuous howls of his Pack members. The very Pack he vowed to rule according to the rules he created himself while discarding the former rules set out by his Late Father and the Wolf Elders.

He was their King, and he was here to rule and not to abide by the rules. To rule not only his Pack but also the humans and the other Packs. He wanted to be the ultimate Alpha King of all.

Long ago, the history of the existence of werewolves was not yet known among humans. It was as if they were not in existence. But this was not until the late Alpha, who was his father decided to expose their existence. This act of his father he had always termed as being stupid and incapable of ruling had caused them to become the center of exhibition to humans.

All these began a decade ago when on every full moon, humans would always come to watch them transform, while some discreetly captured them to become their specimens for experiment. But all these were going to be history. Alpha Ryker thought to himself, his gaze fierce and his demeanor emanating the urge to rip and paint everywhere with blood.

He was going to make sure he ripped hearts out and created havoc that would forever bring fear into humans who in turn would succumb to the power and authority he wielded.

It has always been his utmost goal, and he was going to stop at nothing until he had accomplished it. And undoubtedly, the day was going to be tonight, the night of the famous winter moon. A sacred day in the history of werewolves where the moon goddess bestowed blessings upon their lands.

Tonight, he was going to be the bestower of havoc. And that was death to any human he found wandering in his territory. He is Alpha Ryker Donovan. The Alpha King with a ripper wolf who was known far and wide as heartless and brutal. And this title, he had always lived in as the world will get a taste of it.

With that, Alpha Ryker walked out of the room, and at the same time, he heard the loud ring of the tower bell that would continue to ring every once in a while, preparing the pack members for the long-awaited night.

Halfway out of the building, Beta Alvan met Alpha Ryker on the way and informed him, "Everything is set and ready, My Alpha."

"Good," Alpha acknowledged, his gaze focused on where he was heading. "Get the car ready and tell the Z clan to guard the borders. And make sure everything is going smoothly as planned."

"Yes, My Alpha," Alvan obliged with a nod of his head. There were a total of twelve clans in the Dark Moon Pack, and each section had its work in the pack. The Z clan known as the Scanvengers were known for their ruthlessness though it didn't match that of their Alpha King, Alpha Ryker.

Another name used by the Z clan was, the Rippers. They were the clan that had the most ferocious wolves that saw nothing but blood. They were always tasked with the job to kill any time there was going to be a massive death. This meant that for Alpha Ryker to order their appearance, no human was going to be left alive tonight. The humans were going to a taste of what it meant to experience hell on Earth. Beta Alvan thought with a shake of his head as he left the Alpha's side to summon the Z clan.

It was not as if he was in support of the humans seeing them as another species nor did he want Alpha Ryker to kill them, it was because there was something he knew that even Alpha Ryker didn't know of, and if he went ahead with his plans, there was going to be inbalance in the history of werewolves, the humans, and also other creatures that were yet to be known which included the witches too.

But then, this secret he was not to reveal as there would be a severe consequence which might follow his action. The only thing he could do now as the right-hand man to their Alpha was to try and reduce the casualties and damages tonight would bring because there was nothing he could do to change the hardened heart of their Alpha King who saw nothing but the power he would weld after tonight's ordeal.

Beta Alvan cast a glance at the departing Alpha Ryker before he entered the car that would take him to the house of the Z clan members.

The screeching tyres of the car and its sound left a distant echo as the car sped through the empty streets where some of the human occupants had gone to rest in their houses leaving the ones who wanted to watch werewolves transform, and who unfortunately would be at the receiving end of Alpha Ryker's brutality.

Beta Alvan tapped on his watch which displayed the time as thirty minutes to the hour of midnight. Without wasting time, he swiftly turned the wheels of the car, and instead of heading in the direction of the Z clan's house, he went in another direction. Not long, his car pulled over beside another car on one of the deserted streets.

Beta Alvan came down from the car so did the occupant of the other car clad in a well-tailored suit. His features were sharp and handsome as his blood-red eyes stared at Beta Alvan who offered him a bow.

"Good evening, Alpha," He greeted, and the man he addressed as Alpha smirked.

He questioned, "What is good about the evening, Beta Alvan when your Alpha has decided to disrupt the peace everyone has been enjoying?"

Beta Alvan's eye lowered knowing that what he said was true. He quizzed, "What are your plans, Alpha?"

"My plans?" The Alpha questioned back with a small smile. "I do not have any plan so long your Alpha doesn't harm anyone from my Pack."

"Are you going to watch”" Beta Alvan began to be interrupted by the Alpha.

"Yes, I will, Beta Alvan. I am going to sit back and watch the scene unfold. It is not my pack after all. So why stick my head in something that will bring war to my doorstep?"

"Many innocent lives are going to die, Alpha."

"Which is a result of their curiosity to see werewolves and not stay back in their houses." The Alpha promptly replied.

Beta Alvan did not immediately reply as he stared at the man whom he had believed would help reduce if not stop Alpha Ryker from going on his killing spree.

He had met this Alpha, the Alpha King of the Red Moon Pack, Alpha Aziel, in hopes of getting him to help out as he was the only Alpha out of the eight Alpha kings with a good state of mind. Alpha Aziel has always been a calm and calculative person when it came to any situation he encountered which made it hard for him to discern what he thought about what Alpha Ryker was planning. But it seemed as if he was wrong in thinking he would help him out.

Trying his last chance to convince Alpha Aziel, Alvan went on to speak, "You know he is going to channel the energy from the humans he kills as a sacrifice to the moon to gain more power. And you and I know what it means. Your Pack will be threatened too."

This seemed to get the attention of Alpha Aziel as his brows rose in slight surprise, and Alvan hoping it would get the desired effect was met with disappointment when the Alpha Aziel's expression returned to being nonchalant.

"He can do whatever he wants, Beta Alvan." Alpha Aziel remarked and patted Alvan on his shoulder and went on to say, "You've tried your best to prevent whatever it is you said will befall us all, though I am also curious to know what it is. But at this juncture, I'll advise you to step back and allow course to take its actions."

"Okay, Alpha. Thank you for your time." Beta Alvan bowed. He didn't want to go on trying to convince someone who was being nonchalant about the tragedy of Alpha Ryker's plan.

Alpha Aziel nodded his head in acknowledgment before he entered his car and drove off.

"Let course take its action," Beta Alvan repeated as he let out a tired sigh. What action was it going to take now things had escalated to this point where he had not less than an hour before blood would mark the city's ground of Wolflinia? It was surely going to be a disaster. Alvan thought to himself as he entered his car, heading towards the direction of Z clan's house.
