Chapter 28 - Cherie

I feel Creed’s parting kiss but my focus is solely on the woman in front of me.

Rebecca is refusing to meet my eye even as the elevator doors close and I can no longer sense Creed. Not only that, but I don’t think I have ever seen her so flushed before. What exactly did Sage and her talk about?

“Is it bad?” I blurt out, but her head remains down. But then she sighs and shrugs her shoulders.

“I don’t know, Cherie,” she says, throwing her hands up. “If I do this, if I give him what he wants then I get my Court back. Everything I have ever done has been for them; this is something I’ll need to do even if I hate it.”

“No,” I say with a shake of my head. “How do you know he’s telling the truth about your Court? How do you know they’re still alive after all this time?”

“Because he showed me,” she murmurs. “And I spoke with my mother and handmaiden on his cell phone; he has them stashed away somewhere to use as leverage so he gets what he wants out of me.”
