"I know I messed up, Aveline. But I love you, I've always do. Please, give me a second chance to prove it to you. I regret everything I did and I'm ready to make it up to you," Alpha Draven wouldn't stop begging. "What made you think you can come here again? Listen, I don't want to see you near me. So leave!" I was fuming, but I kept calm as I spoke. ***** Working aside the Alpha as a secretary and also his secret girlfriend, Aveline finds out that she was in a one-way mating bond with the Alpha. Lihat lebih banyakAn average person hates Monday mornings, but I have hated my life for the past seven years.
Sitting in the back of the car, I clasped my palms together, rubbing them absently in a vain attempt to warm the cold dread crawling up my spine. But no amount of heat could ever thaw the ice that had settled in my heart over the past seven years.
It's funny how time doesn't wait for you to heal and how it didn't wait for me to outgrow the scars that came from harmless wishful thinking. I shrugged and looked outside the window at the skyline of the bustling city and the most magnificent building in the whole country where I worked.
But I am far from excited. I will soon be standing before “...the very face that ruined my life without even realising it, by never looking at me the way I wished.
“Which spot in the VIP parking lot, is yours, Ma'am, the middle one”
“No,” I screamed in response to my new driver, my eyes widening in shock. “Turn in the other direction,” I raised my hand and pointed. “Drop me at the regular parking lot.”
“But aren't you Mr Harrington's secretary?”
That question punched my heart and twisted it into a knot, making my throat close up in a choking cough. That was what the whole world saw and believed, but I was his fated mate, chosen by the moon goddess.
He would never sense what I had sensed; he would never feel it, that compelling mate's bond which made me choose to remain by his side, tethering me to a love he can never return.
I loved to see his face, even though it was hurtful. I craved the sound of his voice, even though it tore at my heart every time I heard it.
I chose to live as his mistress, his clandestine lover, even though we should have been married, bound together as fated mates. I live in the shadows of his life, his secret, a lover in the dark while the world sees me as nothing. I stayed because I couldn’t bear the thought of leaving him. The bond pulled me to him, even though I knew it would never pull him to me.
“Good morning, ma'am. Welcome to work.”
“Oh,” I murmured, the sudden voice pulling me from my thoughts. I turned in the direction of the speaker, offering a small smile. “It’s good to see you this morning.”
“Thank you, James,” I replied. “I hope you have a pleasant day at work.”
“And you too... Wait.” He called after me just as I made my way toward the elevator. “There’s something I have to tell you.”
I paused, turning back to him. “Oh? What is it?”
“The boss has asked you to review the new design we just made for the products.”
“But Draven usually handles that himself. Why is he suddenly assigning the task to me?”
James cringed at the mention of the boss’s real name, and I rolled my eyes at his reaction. I had known that name long before anyone else around here did.
“He’s... occupied this morning,” James said carefully. “He has a visitor.”
“A visitor?” I frowned, glancing at my wristwatch. “Who could be visiting the boss this early?”
James shrugged, avoiding my gaze as he took my handbag and led me toward the department. But I felt like something wasn't right. A chill ran down my spine, and without knowing why, I felt a sudden wave of unease washing over me.
The department was a wide room on the fourth and seventh floors of the skyscraper. It had a view of the ocean and the other buildings in the city. The office was made up of 7 rows of seats, each seat facing a computer. I paused and took a long glance at the bowed heads working tirelessly.
“Where are the new designs located?" I questioned.
“This way ma'am," he answered, gesturing to the seat at the end of the room. I hadn't gotten close to the computer when I saw the reason I was having a bad feeling. Her face broke into a sinister smile as we locked eyes.
“What are you doing here Sophia?" I asked as authoritatively and boldly as the fear in my stomach would allow. I didn't wake up with the inkling that I would be having a bad day, but turns out I would. The devilish face before me had already resurrected the ugly memories in my mind. As if the torment I had had to endure all these years wasn't enough.
“I am talking to you, Sophia. What are you doing here, what business do you have in this office.”
"Oh, slow down bitch.” she answered, scanning me from head to toe, as though I were a cockroach she would soon stomp to death. My brother's company is not the same as his bed, know where to draw the line.”
Those words stung, like the pain of a thousand slaps to the middle of my face. Sophia didn't hesitate to cause a scene, as everyone in the office turned in our direction now.
"I can't believe you have refused to leave my brother alone.” she continued, raising her voice so that the crowd could hear us. “I mean, where is your self, Aveline? Is it not enough that you sedated my brother and slept with him because you wanted a share of his billion-dollar wealth? What are you still doing in his life? I understand that you are a poor orphan looking like a leech, but still."
She placed her hands on her hips and moved towards me, her eyes burning with so much hatred and distaste that I felt it burning through me.
I had only read about one-way mates in books. I had no idea that the moon goddess would put me in such a bond. I felt a connection to Draven Harrington as soon as I started working here. I worked hard until he promoted me from the status of secretary to that of PA.
Three years after my stay in this company, Draven got in a car accident and sustained some injuries. To keep the news out of the public eye, he settled for home treatments. I worked as a part-time nurse while I oversaw the affairs of the company.
During this time, the mate's bond between us became intense, but I didn't know that I was heading into his trap. It then happened that we got intimate one night; I was happy to finally feel the touch of my mate, which I had been longing for.
We shared a kiss during the act, but Draven did not seem to feel anything ignored this thought it was the effect of the many medicines they had been taking, but I saw the truth in the morning.
Draven practically accused me of sexual abuse, he asked me to leave, blaming me for making him commit an unprofessional action. I asked him if he had felt the mate bond, but he didn't.
I did research of my own and discovered that this was a rare case of one-way mating.
The two of us decided to put the past together, and I continued working for him. But a part of Draven desired me lustfully, and I had given in to him thinking it was better than not having a piece of him at all. Until now, when another life has begun to grow within me. I had been happy about this development, thinking it would finally change Draven 's disposition towards me.
"Did you hear what I said, Aveline? I said Emily is back.”
I remember now, that Jacob said Draven had received a visitor early this morning. Without further contemplation, I spun on my heel and went directly into Draven 's office, not bothering to knock on the door.
And there it was, the scene that would traumatise me for life. I froze, watching as they spoke, their bodies angled toward each other in a way that made my heart ache. He looked at Emily with a familiarity and warmth I had never seen on his face.
Emily turned to me, that flawless smile never wavering as she spoke. “I know you’re his secretary, but you must understand something…” She stepped closer, eyes gleaming with superiority. “I’m his true mate. I always have been.”
Draven Two weeks later.Draven lay on the bed in his chambers, Aveline sat beside him, her hands interlocked in his as they stared into each other's faces. The storm was over at last. Julian had showed up the day Aveline defeated Kade and he came with a surprise. Beatrice and Emily. Hands chained and beaten.Beatrice was the leak in Draven's pack and Emily worked with her.Aveline expected Draven to be heartbroken and soft towards his mother but he banished her and locked Emily up in the pack's dungeon for breaking the rule of banishment showing her face countless times and also involving in treacherous acts against him.Julian went to Draven's pack with a bouquet in his hand, in front of the bewildered pack members, he went on his knees to confess his love for Sabrina. The Lycan king! His display of love and affection made it hard for Sabrina to refuse him and the two got the blessings of Aveline and Draven. Julian explained his involvement with Kade and Beatrice and how he no lo
AvelineMason shivered in anger as the reality of his situation dawned on him and I patted him gently at his back.It was a real heartache to lose the people you cherish more than anything. I for one, knew how that felt."Julian took them." His breath came out ragged and I could tell they were out of anger."We tried to avoid him and stay away from him. We even denied the kids civilization and he still found us." He raged."What are you going to do about it?" All I needed to do was ask. He had already made the resolve in his mind and as he shifted his gaze to me, I knew that we were fighting the Lycans together. We all stormed out of the forest. The plan was to get to Draven's pack, regroup and go to war and so we did.Luckily, none of Julian's men were outside the clan so we were able to pass through, following the bush paths. We had no means of transportation other than our legs but we were pretty fast. Maybe it was the change in the atmosphere after Mason made a new resolve and we
DravenDraven and his team had less than 4 hours to 48 hours to give Kade what he wanted and they all agreed to go with the plan.Sabrina brought the certificate of ownership and Draven sent a text to Kade. With a picture of the certificate for proof.Kade asked Draven to bring the certificate himself without the police or anybody following him else Betty would be gotten rid of without a second thought. Draven told his team not to follow him but they did anyway, they trailed him with another car. Brian and Scar could not take chances. This gold also be another of Kade's perfect plans to add Draven to the kidnap list and they were not going to let the Alpha out of their sight.Draven drove to the address Kade gave him with urgency and he had lost his way a couple of times as he followed the bushy path to the location Kade gave him.He got there alas and walked into the compound of the only building surrounded by the forest and Kade walked out of it just in time to meet up with him out
AvelineA sharp pain in my head made me force my eyes open. I'd been having lots of weird dreams that I couldn't wake up from no matter how hard I tried. It was strange since I knew that it was all a dream but it was as though someone or something was at the door between real life and dreamland, shutting the door to real life whenever I got so close and forcing me back to dreamland. The dreams were about my wolf, the first time I felt her. Which was strange. I never had a dream about V, and now I was having countless, recurring dreams about her. How we fought Sofia, for the first time. I won.How I threatened Sofia, how brave I felt having her with me, defeating Scar and becoming Alpha. And how I lost her. My days in the dungeon, the hallucinations and torture. Then back to a powerless and helpless Aveline working as a secretary, reeking of sweat and the scent of cheap roll-on that has changed to something else due to the excess work I was occupied with. The insults, humiliation and
Mason"What is this place?" He whispered. The crystals glistened more with the lightening of the place. She did not reply to him. Typical. Instead, she walked into one of the corners of the cave where a stream sat.The stream wasn't flowing, it was more like a stale pool but it's water was so clear that Mason could see the pores on his facial skin"What is this? Why did you bring me here?' He asked, all the more confused."Tis the place my ancestors stored their valuables." She replied and went mute again.Okay, now, this was scary. "I want her to have it. This is the reason I'm still alive. They will not let me go until I do what they have instructed and they say I should give this to her." She spoke again after her silence almost killed Mason. "I have watched you, you are a good wolf. You will protect her. It's your life duty. And you will make sure she has these things." She finished. Mason's eyes fluttered, as he tried to understand what he was told."Who is she? Why did they
Mason"Don't touch that." The healer, or witch or whatever she was called said when Mason wanted to examine a statue in her living room. The living room was used for most of her practices. It was a large room with wide corners that held tables, in some and statues in some with incense burning out from them."Uh, sorry?" Mason replied, drawing his hands back to himself. "Follow me." She bellowed and he gasped with uncertainty. She had barely spoken to him since he showed up with Aveline. She didn't even ask him what happened to her.She just tapped on the closest table and had Mason lay her on it. Ethan tried to speak but she grunted angrily and he figured it was best to let the witch do her job. After taking long hours on Aveline, the men grew tired and settled in front of her hut. They were exhausted from their long journey and it did not help as she wasn't speaking to them. She also did not need their help which had them standing there, watching her perform what was alien to them.
Kade"W- what are you doing?" Betty asked confusion spread over her face as Kade began to bind her hands and legs."You just wait, my dear. Trust your uncle now will you?" He faked a smile and tied up the last piece of rope."Where's my mom?" She asked again, her voice shaking with each word."There are some things you don't know about your mom Betty. Your mom has done some bad things to me but it's not a problem anymore, because I have you now." Kade smiled.Betty pressed her back against the frame of the chair but it was too late to escape now. "Your mom is not here. I'm sure you've figured that out by now." Kade continued"But I plan to put you in her place. She's owing me a great deal and I don't like to be owed."Betty broke into tears. Not because she was standing in for her mom but because she disobeyed Draven. He would be all over the place looking for her."Can you call Draven, and tell him that I am safe?" She asked amidst tears of regret.Kade squinted as a smug smile cros
DravenWithout any word from Kade for eighteen hours, Draven was scattering everything in his path. From the chairs to the papers in front of him to the walls. He had a bandage tied over his previous injury but he didn't relent. Neither did he stop punching the walls.Kade was a bastard. That was certain. He was messing with Draven's mind and eating deep into him at the same time.Handing over Aveline's company, Aveline's hard work over the years was non-negotiable even considering her absence but Betty was involved. The only heir to Aveline's company was involved. Draven felt like he was a train of bad luck. Everyone who loved him, every single person he cared about always ended up in one danger or the other.First, it was Aveline and now, Betty. Draven was about to punch the wall in anger again when his phone's notification drew his attention. It was another video from Kade and this time around, Betty was in chains. Although, the tape was still glued to her legs, separately, her
KadeJust as he promised, he headed for his niece's school that day. It was his last opportunity to get what he wanted and have been fighting for for years. As usual, he got there in time to wait for the students to come out of their classes. And there was, Betty. His last ticket to getting what he wanted in life."Hey pretty..." he greeted but Betty changed direction and walked back towards the class. He chased after her. His niece was not out yet so he had some time with Betty before she stepped out. "Hey, hey, what is it?" He asked nervously when he caught up to her.The little girl had an unreasonable expression on her face and it made Kade all the more suspicious. "Didn't you see me waving at you? Why did you turn around? Are you not happy to see me?" Kade threw question after question, desperate for answers. But Betty just stared at him while she tried to free herself from his grasp."What is wrong huh? Did Uncle do something wrong? Why are you not talking to me?" He continued
