I folded the last of my clothes into the brown suitcase that once belonged to my mother, my hands shook slightly, not from fear but from resolve.

I was going to prove everyone wrong.

I was going to attend Silvervale Academy not because of Theo, but to carve my own path.

My heart hurts so much from the betrayal but it only made me realize that I was better than what anyone thought about me.

I closed the half filled suitcase and paused, taking a deep breath. Regardless of how hurt I was, I was still excited. I was finally going to be attending the school I had always wanted to attend.

I zipped the suitcase, placing it on the floor, I rolled it out of my room intending to say my goodbyes.

I know my dad would never agree to my leaving but I was not going to let him stop me.

I walked into the dining area, my dad sitting at the dining table, his eyes glued to a paper, with a half finished cup of coffee steaming beside him.

“Dad” I tried to get his attention, keeping my voice steady, knowing what was going to come next.

“What is it now?” he did not spare me a glance, grabbing the steaming coffee from the table. He took a sip and placed it back, his eyes still fixated on the paper he was reading.

“I’m leaving”

He lowered the paper and looked at me, his eyes met the suitcase I was holding, his brows furrowed “Where are you going”

I inhaled deeply before replying to him “school”

He scoffed “We’ve talked about this Lyra, I am not paying a dime for you to chase your silly dreams”

“Well, I do not need it either” I retorted.

His eyes narrowed “What did you say”

“I worked over the summer and I saved enough money, so you don’t need to spend anything on me,” I said boldly. “It’s not like you ever cared to ask but I got accepted into Silvervale Academy”

For a moment, there was silence, then he chuckled, “You expect me to believe that some elite school accepted you? Stop making things up”

“It’s true, and I’m not making things up” I reached for my phone and showed him the acceptance letter, my hands trembling slightly.

He snatched it, stared at it for some time, and placed it on the table.

“And you think the money you saved during the summer would help you in an elite school” he was the least happy that I was accepted into the academy.

“I got a full scholarship, and everything is covered,” I responded.

That got his attention “You must have lied in the application or tricked someone into it”

“I did not,” I stated firmly. My knuckles turned white around the suitcase handle.

“You think you are better than this family now,” he snapped, rising from the chair so fast it scraped against the floor. “For all I know that email may be fake, and you want to use this as a way to walk out of your responsibilities”

My throat tightened but I did not back down “I am chasing my own future”

I could see he was already getting enraged.

The door to the kitchen opened and my mother walked out, wearing an apron.

“What’s going on?” she asked, looking between me and my father.

“She keeps on lying that she has been accepted into Silvervale Academy” my dad answered clearly he still hasn't believed me.

My mum turned to me, then looked at the suitcase I was holding “Lyra, is it true?”

I nodded, “Yes, I got in and I will be leaving today”

She smiled brightly and pulled me into a hug. I could hear my father’s footsteps storming out of the room.

She drew back from the hug and wiped her cheeks, making me notice that she was crying.

My mum was the only one who genuinely cared for me.

She unclipped the golden necklace she had been wearing and clipped it around my neck.

The small moon pendant glinted in the light.

“Remember that I will always support your dreams, this necklace always brought me luck and I hope it will do the same for you”

I held back the tears that threatened to fall and hugged her tightly. “I will make you proud”

“You already have,” she whispered.

The trip to Silvervale Academy took almost six hours, the road was through thick forest and trees.

When the bus finally stopped, I stepped out and gasped at the view in front of me.

It was ethereal.

The gates of the academy were tall, and the grand black and gold architecture radiated luxury and mystery. The academy crest was engraved in the middle.

The air felt different here, I walked into the school gates, taking in the surroundings of the school.

Looking around I realized I did not know where to go, and It would be hard to find my way around here.

“You look lost” I turned to see a girl dragging a pink suitcase, her brown hair was packed in a ponytail.

“First day,” she asked, her smile bright and warm.

“Yes, you?”

She nodded eagerly “I’m Ivy, I’ve been walking around. This school is huge. What’s your name by the way”

“Lyra,” I replied.

“Nice meeting you Lyra, The registration office should be up ahead, come on, let’s go”

I guess I was not going to get lost after all.

I followed Ivy as she walked towards a building.

When we reached the registration hall, I couldn’t help but stare. The marble floors gleamed under a chandelier, and the air smelled faintly of roses and expensive perfume. Several students were lined up at the counter, chatting softly.

“Welcome to Silvervale Academy,” A lady sitting behind the desk said, smiling politely. “Please sign in and collect your dorm assignments.”

Ivy and I stepped forward, taking turns to fill out our forms.

The lady handed me my dorm keys, “room 201”

“Thank you,” I said, gripping the key tightly.

Ivy squealed “We are roommates. We are going to have so much fun”

She seemed like a really nice person.

Ivy chatted excitedly as we made our way to the dorm.

I suddenly stopped, making Ivy stop abruptly beside me.

“What’s wrong” she asked

My stomach dropped as I stared forward.

This was the last person I wanted to see.

Anger washed through me.

I pulled my hoodie over my head, tugging it low enough to cover most of my face. The fabric felt warm against my skin, at least I would be able to divert the attention that seemed to follow me ever since the ‘matching disaster’. Ivy walked beside me, humming softly as we entered the hallway buzzing with morning chatter. “You know, you look like you’re trying to rob the place,” she teased, eyeing my oversized hoodie. “That’s kind of the point,” I muttered, keeping my head down as two girls walked by whispering. I didn’t need to strain my hearing to know they were talking about me. Everyone was. She laughed. “You can’t seriously think a hoodie will make people forget you got matched with two Alphas. The whole academy probably knows by now.” I groaned. “Exactly why I am hiding. I’d rather not deal with people staring like I am some sort of circus act.” Ivy grinned. “You say that, but it’s kind of impressive. History making, even.” “Yeah, I am thrilled,” I said dryly. She chuckled.

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   7. Stranger danger

The hall exploded into chaos, everybody whispering and voicing their own opinion about the absurd matching. “Two Alphas” I heard someone say “that’s impossible.” “It must be an error,” another person said. The names were still ringing in my ears, I felt numb, my mind was blank, my heart was hammering so loudly I could barely think. “Lyra” I heard Ivy’s concerned voice. Two Alphas. My breath was shortened, I needed air. I immediately stood while the murmurs continued, and without thinking, I ran out of the hall. The cold evening wind touched my skin as soon as I got outside. I walked further away from the hall and stumbled into the forest. The trees loomed tall and dark. It was stupid to wander this far, but I didn’t care. I just needed to be away. I trudged deeper until I found a large oak tree, I leaned against the trunk of the oak tree and my heartbeat began to slow down, as I slid down until I was sitting on the cold dirt. My hands were trembling. What the hell was happe

I tossed on my plates, poking half-heartedly at my mashed potatoes while Ivy practically inhaled her fries like she hadn’t eaten in days. The cafeteria was filled with students, and the loud chatters and clinking of cutlery filled the room. “You’ve been frowning at that potato for five minutes,” Ivy said, raising an eyebrow. “I doubt you will be eating that soon, you would have just taken the fries like I suggested”I sighed. “It's not about the food”“I wonder what it is, you look like you plan on murdering the potatoes with your stares” “I am just thinking,” I responded.“About what” Ivy asked while eating her fries.I leaned back into my seat “The stupid match making system” I muttered “I mean I still don't get why we need it, it's weird”Ivy shrugged, sipping her juice. “Relax Lyra, it’s not that deep. Most people don’t even get matched. It’s just some ancient tradition to make the Alphas feel important.”“Exactly my point,” I snapped, stabbing the potato. “Why does everything

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   5. Ex’s Brother

“Hello little brother”The deep voice was sharp and void of any emotions.I froze, realizing he was talking to Theo.Alpha Kael was Theo’s elder brother. The man before me was the Alpha Kael, he stood tall and composed, his presence dominating the narrow corridor. His dark hair was tousled just enough to look effortlessly perfect, and those piercing gray eyes were slow and assessing.Theo’s expression faltered for the first time since I had known him, his smugness drained away, replaced by something I never thought I would see on his face. Fear.“Kael,” he breathed, forcing a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. “Didn’t expect to see you here.”“Yeah,” Kael drawled, his tone was lazy. “Me neither. How is Father?”“He…. He’s fine” Theo spoke as though he was struggling to find his voice.Kael’s mouth curved into a sharp, humorless smile. “Is he? I’m sure he’s doing well. Otherwise, how could he afford to fulfill your wishes…” His eyes cut toward me, for a nanosecond before drifting back

The hall fell completely silent, with all eyes on the person walking through the aisle of the hall. His steps were measured, heavy with dominance. His gaze was firm, and people instinctively lowered their heads in submission.Principal Rowan cleared her throat, her voice steady but noticeably softer than before.“The next Alpha of the most powerful northern pack, Alpha Kael of the Blackstorm will be joining us this year.A wave of whispers rippled through the hall.“Did she say Blackstorm”“It's Alpha Kael”“He is actually here”Beside me, Ivy’s elbow jabbed my side “he is so fucking hot” she gasped.“You mean terrifying” I corrected her.“That's not what I mean”“He looks dangerous,” I added.“Exactly, dangerous is what makes him hot, and that’s the perfect combination” she grinned.I gave her a look “You seriously have issues”“Come on, he is hot just admit” Ivy might have been right, he was hot but in a terrifying way.“I wonder who he will be matched with”I blinked “matched? Macie Hale stood at the entrance of the dorm, with her perfectly styled curls, and her designer luggage beside her. Our eyes met and she gave a cheeky smile as she walked towards me.I decided to ignore her and walk away but she stopped in front of me blocking my path.“Look who is here, our country bumpkin” my grip on my suitcase handle tightened hearing the smugness in her tone.I was about to walk around her but she noticed and blocked my path once again. Her eyes swept over me, “How did your family afford this place” she sneered. “Or did you finally find someone rich to pay your way in”I rolled my eyes “You really think too highly of yourself if you believe I would need to explain anything to you”Macie's smile faltered for a split second before she crossed her hand. “Don’t act like you are above anyone here, because you are not. Everyone knows why you are really here” her tone becoming more venomous, “you think following Theo here to Silvervale will make him love you again”“I
