I folded the last of my clothes into the brown suitcase that once belonged to my mother, my hands shook slightly, not from fear but from resolve.

I was going to prove everyone wrong.

I was going to attend Silvervale Academy not because of Theo, but to carve my own path.

My heart hurts so much from the betrayal but it only made me realize that I was better than what anyone thought about me.

I closed the half filled suitcase and paused, taking a deep breath. Regardless of how hurt I was, I was still excited. I was finally going to be attending the school I had always wanted to attend.

I zipped the suitcase, placing it on the floor, I rolled it out of my room intending to say my goodbyes.

I know my dad would never agree to my leaving but I was not going to let him stop me.

I walked into the dining area, my dad sitting at the dining table, his eyes glued to a paper, with a half finished cup of coffee steaming beside him.

“Dad” I tried to get his attention, keeping my voice steady, knowing what was going to come next.

“What is it now?” he did not spare me a glance, grabbing the steaming coffee from the table. He took a sip and placed it back, his eyes still fixated on the paper he was reading.

“I’m leaving”

He lowered the paper and looked at me, his eyes met the suitcase I was holding, his brows furrowed “Where are you going”

I inhaled deeply before replying to him “school”

He scoffed “We’ve talked about this Lyra, I am not paying a dime for you to chase your silly dreams”

“Well, I do not need it either” I retorted.

His eyes narrowed “What did you say”

“I worked over the summer and I saved enough money, so you don’t need to spend anything on me,” I said boldly. “It’s not like you ever cared to ask but I got accepted into Silvervale Academy”

For a moment, there was silence, then he chuckled, “You expect me to believe that some elite school accepted you? Stop making things up”

“It’s true, and I’m not making things up” I reached for my phone and showed him the acceptance letter, my hands trembling slightly.

He snatched it, stared at it for some time, and placed it on the table.

“And you think the money you saved during the summer would help you in an elite school” he was the least happy that I was accepted into the academy.

“I got a full scholarship, and everything is covered,” I responded.

That got his attention “You must have lied in the application or tricked someone into it”

“I did not,” I stated firmly. My knuckles turned white around the suitcase handle.

“You think you are better than this family now,” he snapped, rising from the chair so fast it scraped against the floor. “For all I know that email may be fake, and you want to use this as a way to walk out of your responsibilities”

My throat tightened but I did not back down “I am chasing my own future”

I could see he was already getting enraged.

The door to the kitchen opened and my mother walked out, wearing an apron.

“What’s going on?” she asked, looking between me and my father.

“She keeps on lying that she has been accepted into Silvervale Academy” my dad answered clearly he still hasn't believed me.

My mum turned to me, then looked at the suitcase I was holding “Lyra, is it true?”

I nodded, “Yes, I got in and I will be leaving today”

She smiled brightly and pulled me into a hug. I could hear my father’s footsteps storming out of the room.

She drew back from the hug and wiped her cheeks, making me notice that she was crying.

My mum was the only one who genuinely cared for me.

She unclipped the golden necklace she had been wearing and clipped it around my neck.

The small moon pendant glinted in the light.

“Remember that I will always support your dreams, this necklace always brought me luck and I hope it will do the same for you”

I held back the tears that threatened to fall and hugged her tightly. “I will make you proud”

“You already have,” she whispered.

The trip to Silvervale Academy took almost six hours, the road was through thick forest and trees.

When the bus finally stopped, I stepped out and gasped at the view in front of me.

It was ethereal.

The gates of the academy were tall, and the grand black and gold architecture radiated luxury and mystery. The academy crest was engraved in the middle.

The air felt different here, I walked into the school gates, taking in the surroundings of the school.

Looking around I realized I did not know where to go, and It would be hard to find my way around here.

“You look lost” I turned to see a girl dragging a pink suitcase, her brown hair was packed in a ponytail.

“First day,” she asked, her smile bright and warm.

“Yes, you?”

She nodded eagerly “I’m Ivy, I’ve been walking around. This school is huge. What’s your name by the way”

“Lyra,” I replied.

“Nice meeting you Lyra, The registration office should be up ahead, come on, let’s go”

I guess I was not going to get lost after all.

I followed Ivy as she walked towards a building.

When we reached the registration hall, I couldn’t help but stare. The marble floors gleamed under a chandelier, and the air smelled faintly of roses and expensive perfume. Several students were lined up at the counter, chatting softly.

“Welcome to Silvervale Academy,” A lady sitting behind the desk said, smiling politely. “Please sign in and collect your dorm assignments.”

Ivy and I stepped forward, taking turns to fill out our forms.

The lady handed me my dorm keys, “room 201”

“Thank you,” I said, gripping the key tightly.

Ivy squealed “We are roommates. We are going to have so much fun”

She seemed like a really nice person.

Ivy chatted excitedly as we made our way to the dorm.

I suddenly stopped, making Ivy stop abruptly beside me.

“What’s wrong” she asked

My stomach dropped as I stared forward.

This was the last person I wanted to see.

Anger washed through me.

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   159. Competition

LYRA’S POV Today was the day of the academy’s annual competition, which would determine the ten people who would graduate. The arena was filled with students making loud noises, with cheers and laughter. I guess everyone was anticipating today’s competition. I was nervous but I tried to hide it, I was going to be fighting against alphas and with people’s eyes on me, which means I had to be careful not to reveal my silver wolf. “Hey” I felt a nudge on my shoulder from Ivy “What are you thinking about” “Erm….. nothing” She raised a brow “You look like you would run off if you were given the opportunity” I gave a defeated sigh “I guess I would” My response got me a smack from Ivy. “Ouch, what was that for” I rubbed my head which she had just hit. She just smiled “a wake up call” “We are about to begin” Professor Lennox’s voice echoed across the arena. “Come on let’s find a seat” Ivy pulled me as we found two empty seats at the end of a row. From where I was sitting, I cou

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   158. Last Choice

LYRA’S POV I stood in the middle of the woods, my mind racing and hoping I was making the right choice. The woods were too quiet and the only sound that could be heard was the soft rustling of leaves and the distant whisper of the wind brushing through the trees. It was isolated and there were no students in sight, it was perfect for what I needed to do. There was no turning back now, I had to go on with it. “I got your message, what's up” Lance's voice broke through my thoughts. I turned and saw him approaching me, he was only a few steps from me and I could read the expression in his gaze, it was filled with concern. I just hope he was not going to go against what I wanted to tell him. “I need your help” I told him. “Whatever you want I can help you with it, do you want me to kill someone” he asked. My eyes widened “No, why would I ask that?” He just shrugged. “I just assumed that since we are in the middle of the woods.” “No it's not that” I told him. “Then why are we

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   157. The List

LYRA’S POV “Move, move please, excuse me…..” Ivy was saying as she dragged me through the crowd. The hallways were packed, as students crowded them, people’s voices were overlapping while some people were being pushed, and others tried to get past the crowd. Everyone was trying to get a glimpse of the lists that had been posted. It was the list of people who were eligible to participate in the competition and graduate when they won the competition. Everyone tried so hard to find their name on the list. I could see some people sobbing as they could not find their names on the list, while others were excited because they had found theirs. “Please excuse me” Ivy kept on saying as she pushed through the crowd still holding my hand. “I’m sorry” I kept apologizing to the people I kept bumping into as Ivy dragged me through the crowd. We finally squeezed our way to the front and saw the list. The list was longer than I expected, there were so many names, and it only means that out

  • Alpha Matchmaking System   156. Announcements

LYRA’S POVThe academy had called everyone to a meeting, filling the auditorium with people. This was the first time it had been this occupied; each row was filled with students chatting excitedly, as if they most likely knew what was going to be said. But everyone still wondered why they had called the meeting.I sat between Ivy and Alaric, my hands resting on my lap, while my fingers unconsciously fidgeted, I don't know why I was nervous or maybe I was just feeling paranoid that someone was watching me.Kael, Zurien, and Lance sat behind us and it was not planned I was actually surprised they had come, because knowing them they never turn up for this kind of event. But ever since the message that was sent to me Ivy and Lance, everyone has been more protective, and linking it to Hannah’s confession, they all concluded that I needed protection at all times. And then there was Zurien, although he did not know why I was being targeted he still wanted to protect me too, after what Hannah

LYRA’S POVHis question hung in the air, I did not know what to say, what was I going to tell him?For a moment no one spoke, everyone had a shocked expression on their face.My fingers tightened around my phone. I did not want more people to know about it, but it seems I have failed.“Alaric, I….” Before I could speak or explain, Kael interrupted me.“How long have you been standing there?” Kael asked, his voice low, and has a dangerous tone to it.Alaric blinked, as he had just snapped out of whatever shock he was in.“I… ” he started, then ran a hand through his hair. “I just got here.”Kael did not look convinced.“How much did you hear?”Alaric hesitated, then he exhaled and replied “Enough”Immediately he said that I knew he was going to ask a lot of questions.“I mean….. I did not really hear too much” he quickly clarified. Then his gaze shifted to me, they were still filled with disbelief.“Lyra…” he said my name slowly, like what he was going to ask next was really sensitive.

LYRA’S POVThe rest of the lectures passed in a blur, and the moment the bell rang, I stood up immediately.“I need to go,” I muttered to Lily. She grabbed my arm. “Lyra…. wait…. what are you going to do?”“I need to talk to Kael,” I said quickly."Be careful" she told me and I nodded.“I will”After I had told Lyra about Hannah and what she said before killing herself, Lyra has been really protective, saying that I should never be alone. After assuring her, I left the lecture hall and without wasting another second I went in search of KaelSince we came back to the academy, Kael and Zurien have been putting effort into attending their classes, which made me wonder what made them change. It was easy to find Kael; I just needed to know which class he was in.I finally got to the class, and I saw Kael sitting lazily by the window. The class was empty, and it seemed as though he did not care less about it.Immediately he saw me a small smile appeared on his lips. But the moment he saw m
