The Alpha Losing Control

Kael’s POV

“Your blood… shouldn’t exist.”

The words left my mouth before I could stop them.

For a moment, silence settled between us.

Liora stared at me as if I had spoken a language she did not understand. Her breathing was uneven, her chest rising and falling beneath the thin linen that barely concealed her body.

Moonlight from the narrow window spilled across her skin, catching the faint sheen of oil the maids had rubbed into her earlier.

The scent of jasmine lingered around her, but beneath that delicate fragrance was something far more dangerous.

Her scent wrapped around my senses like smoke, warm and intoxicating.

My wolf stirred violently beneath my skin.

Discipline and control were the foundations of an Alpha’s power. No instinct, no desire, no impulse had ever managed to break through that control until her, until tonight.

My hand was still gripping her arm. The moment I realized that, I released her abruptly.

Liora sucked in a quiet breath as if she had been holding it for far too long.

Good, she should be afraid. She should tremble in my presence like everyone else in this palace.

But she didn’t. Instead, she lifted her chin slightly, her eyes narrowing with defiance.

“What does that mean?” she asked.

Her voice was steadier than it should have been and a corner of my mouth twitched.

Even now, cornered in a dungeon cell with the most dangerous wolf in the territory standing inches away from her, she still dared to challenge me.

Interesting.

I took a step back, creating a bit of distance between us. The pull between us was still there, tightening around my senses like a slowly closing trap.

“You heard what I said,” I replied coldly.

Her brows pulled together.

“I don’t understand.”

Of course she didn’t.

If she truly knew what she was, she would not be standing here so calmly.

Or perhaps she would.

My gaze dropped briefly to the faint mark on her neck where my teeth had pierced her skin earlier.

The memory returned instantly. The taste of her blood had been addictive, dangerously so.

I clenched my jaw.

No woman had ever affected me like that and the fact that she was the daughter of the very people who betrayed my family made it even more infuriating.

“You don’t understand a lot of things,” I said finally.

Liora crossed her arms over her chest, clearly unimpressed by my answer.

“Then explain them.”

My eyes darkened.

“Careful,” I warned quietly.

Her lips pressed together, but she didn’t look away.

The girl had courage or stupidity, possibly both.

For a moment, the only sound in the cell was the faint crackle of torches burning in the corridor outside then she spoke.

"You've had your revenge, now let me go" she said.

I stepped closer again and her back pressed against the wall once more, but this time she didn’t try to move away.

“My revenge has barely begun,” I murmured.

Her breath hitched slightly.

Good, at least she wasn’t completely fearless.

Before I could say anything else, footsteps echoed down the dungeon corridor and my head turned toward the door.

A moment later, it burst open and one of my guards rushed inside, breathing heavily.

“Alpha!”

My patience snapped instantly.

“What?” I snarled.

The guard bowed quickly.

“My apologies, Alpha… but—”

“Speak.”

“The High Council has arrived.”

The words hung in the air like thunder before a storm.

For a second, even my wolf went still.

The High Council rarely left their territories and when they did, it meant trouble.

I straightened slowly.

“Why?”

The guard hesitated and that alone was enough to make my temper darken.

“I asked you a question.”

“They… they are waiting in the throne hall,” he said quickly.

“And?”

The guard swallowed.

“They know about the girl.”

The dungeon suddenly felt colder and my gaze shifted slowly back to Liora.

She looked just as confused as before which meant she truly didn’t know.

“How?” I asked quietly.

The guard shook his head.

“I don’t know, Alpha.”

Of course he didn’t. The council did nothing without reason. If they were here and if they knew about her, then something far bigger was unfolding than I had anticipated.

I stepped toward Liora again and she stiffened instinctively.

My hand closed around her wrist, her pulse jumped wildly beneath my fingers.

“Come,” I ordered.

She resisted immediately.

“Where are you taking me?”

“To meet the men who seem very interested in you.”

Her eyes widened slightly.

“I didn’t do anything.”

“That remains to be seen.”

I pulled her toward the door. She stumbled slightly as I dragged her into the corridor.

The dungeon guards straightened instantly as I passed. None of them dared to look directly at me.

We moved quickly through the halls.

The air felt different now and servants pressed themselves against the walls as we passed.

Warriors stood at attention near every doorway.

Word had already spread.

Liora struggled slightly beside me.

“You’re hurting me.”

“Good.”

Her eyes flashed.

“You’re an arrogant bastard” she said, her lips trembling.

A small smile tugged at my lips.

“Careful.”

“I’m already in chains, what more can you do?” she muttered.

I stopped walking abruptly and she nearly collided with my chest.

For a moment we stood there, inches apart.

“You truly have no idea what I can do,” I said quietly.

Her throat moved as she swallowed, but once again, she didn’t look away.

That defiance again, it stirred something dangerous inside me. Something my wolf seemed to enjoy far too much.

I forced myself to keep walking.

The large doors of the throne hall came into view and two guards stood on either side. They pushed the doors open the moment they saw me approaching.

Warm light spilled out from the hall and the scent of powerful wolves filled the air. Five figures stood near the center of the room, each one radiating authority.

The council's eyes shifted toward us as we entered then they saw her.

Every single one of them stiffened and the room fell silent.

My grip on Liora tightened slightly. Something was very wrong.

One of the elders stepped forward slowly. His silver hair gleamed under the light. His eyes fixed on Liora with a mixture of disbelief and dread then he spoke and the words that left his mouth made my wolf growl.

“Where did you find her, Alpha Kael?”

I didn’t answer immediately. Instead, my gaze moved between the council members, each one looked… uneasy and that alone was alarming.

“These matters do not concern you,” I said finally.

The elder’s expression hardened.

“Oh, they very much do.”

His eyes shifted back to Liora and then he said something that made the tension in the room snap tighter.

“That girl should not be alive.”

Rio’s POVI should have gone straight to sleep, that would have been the sensible thing to do.After weeks away, long nights, longer journeys, and far too many dull conversations with wolves who took themselves too seriously, rest should have been my priority.Instead, I found myself thinking about her, the girl who fell from a window like she had a death wish and still managed to look like she didn’t regret it.I walked down the corridor at an easy pace, my hands tucked loosely into my pockets, my shoes echoing softly against the polished floors.“She’s beautiful,” I muttered to myself. That much was obvious, but beauty wasn’t rare here, not in Kael’s estate, not when he surrounded himself almost entirely with women. No, what lingered wasn’t just that.“She’s interesting,” I added, tilting my head slightly. That part was rarer. There had been something in her eyes, even as she fell and as she stood in front of Kael. There had been fear, yes, but not submission, not completely at leas

  • Alpha Vorthrane's Pet   The Smell of Blood

Liora’s POVI didn’t know how long I had been doing this because it felt like long, endless hours. My back ached, my knees burned from kneeling against the hard floor, and my fingers stung from repeatedly picking up jagged shards of glass one by one. There had been so much of it, far more than I expected. The shattered pieces from the broken window above scattered across the courtyard and now the fragments that had been tracked into the hallways, glittering faintly under the soft golden light like tiny, dangerous stars.I exhaled slowly, brushing a strand of hair away from my face with the back of my wrist.“I hate him,” I muttered under my breath. The words came out softer this time and that was only because i was just tired because this wasn’t punishment meant to hurt me physically. Not really, it was worse. It was meant to exhaust me, to remind me that I had no control of my life anymore. I shifted slightly, wincing as my muscles protested.Carefully, I reached for another shard,

Kael’s POVThe sound of shattering glass still echoed in my ears.It had brought too many bad memories of the night of my parent's betrayal, ones i thought I had buried long ago but apparently they were still here to hunt me.My gaze burned as I stood at the edge of the broken window, the sharp wind brushing against my skin, carrying with it the faint, unmistakable scent of her.I looked around, my anger boiling close to the surface until I looked down to see her down there, alive. My jaw tightened.Of course she had managed to get out of her room. She hadn’t learned, just yet, what it meant to disobey me.My eyes narrowed as I looked down into the courtyard. There she was standing, breathing, unharmed and beside her was Rio.A slow, dangerous anger unfurled in my chest. He had his hands near her only moments ago. I could see it in the way she stood, the way her body was still slightly angled toward him. They were too close, far too close and Fay, standing there like she didn't know w

Liora’s POVThe air rushed past me in a violent blur. My breath tore from my throat, a scream caught somewhere between panic and disbelief as the ground surged closer. The wind clawed at my skin, tore through my hair, wrapped around my body like invisible hands trying to drag me down faster. My heart slammed wildly against my ribs. This is it.The thought came sharp and sudden.Below me, the courtyard spun into focus and scream pierced the air then another and another.I barely registered the group of maids below, their hands flying to their mouths, their voices rising in panic.“Look out!”“She’s falling!”“Oh moon goddess—!”Their voices blurred together as my vision tunneled.CThe ground was right there and then I heard a crash. Something exploded through the air above me.Before I could even process it strong arms caught me. The impact knocked the breath from my lungs, but it wasn’t pain that followed, it was warmth. The world steadied and the falling stopped. My body pressed agai

  • Alpha Vorthrane's Pet   The Fall

Liora’s POVI was going to lose my mind in this room. The silence wasn’t peaceful, it was suffocating.Every second that passed felt stretched, heavy, pressing against my chest like an invisible weight I couldn’t shake off. The walls were too perfect, too clean, too quiet, like they were hiding something or maybe, like they were hiding me.I paced again, back and forth from the bed to the window again and again.“You’re going to wear a path into the floor,” the maid said gently from behind me.I stopped abruptly then turned to face her.“I would rather wear out the floor than sit here like a caged animal.”Her expression didn’t change.“You are not a prisoner,” she replied.I stared at her.“Really? Because I can’t leave this room, I can’t walk outside and I can’t even breathe without you watching me" My voice came out sharper than I intended. She lowered her gaze slightly.“That is for your safety.”A bitter laugh escaped me.“My safety?” I repeated. "Or his control?”She didn’t answ

Kael’s POVScrolls and maps lay spread across the large oak desk before me, each one marked with inked lines, territories outlined, borders pushed and redrawn. My fingers traced the edge of one map absently, my mind calculating distances, manpower, resistance and then my focus slipped, replaced by Liora. My jaw tightened.I exhaled slowly, leaning back in my chair, forcing my gaze back to map in front of me so i cluld focus but it was already too late. The memory of her came uninvited. The way the thin fabric had clung to her body the night before, the way it barely concealed anything at all, almost translucent under the flicker of light.I could still see the subtle curve of her waist, the rise and fall of her breast with every unsteady breath. The sheen of oil catching the light across her skin, making her glow in a way that had no right to exist in my chambers. My fingers curled slightly against the desk as the memory sharpened further then my breath slowed. My body had already rea
