A thunderous slap landed on Zoey's cheek immediately followed by another two stinging ones that sent her ass on the cold hard floor. The slap came again, this time harder than the last. The next one landed right between her eyes, the pain radiating from it numbing her entire face in an instant.
A gasp escaped her parted lips as hot tears glistened in her eyeballs. Zoey let out a sob of anguish, unable to hold herself together any longer.
Her eyes met with the stern gaze of her mother who loomed over her. She had no words to say in her defense but she was sure Zachary would prove them all wrong soon when he came back for her.
He had promised to come for her and that was all that mattered. She could bear the pain so long he came back.
"How could you do something so scandalous? Do you have any idea how disastrous this could be for this kingdom? What were you thinking Zoey?" Her mother shouted, scanning her from head to toe in distraught.
"Mother-"
"Don't say the word!" Her mother's loud voice caused her to flinch in fear.
"If you call me mother, then you must listen to me when I give instructions!" Anastasia hissed.
A low grunt emanated from her lips as she whirled around in frustration. She sat back on the chair. Closing her eyes, she threw her head backward to think. Again Zoey's adventurous spirit had reared its ugly head and this time she wasn't sure of what she could do. Could she ever tame her wild spirit?
How would she convince the others to forgive her? Would they listen to her?
"I'm sorry Mother. I had to save..."
"No! You were taken away by the mere words of a man! A stranger! Darn! How stupid could you be Zoey!? He's a man! A man! Haven't you heard bad stories about them? Do you think life's a fairy tale where you have your Prince Charming coming for you!? " Lorna interrupted her in anger.
"You are just a naive little girl who still has so much to learn. I strongly advised the queen not to allow you to read fantasy novels because it was messing up with your brain. Just look at what you did, freeing an enemy because of the lies he fed you."
"You just brought impending doom upon us all. I hope your stupidity doesn't cost us our lives! If only-"
"That's enough." Anastasia's harsh tone silenced whatever remaining words Lorna had to say.
She directed her gaze towards the throne where Anastasia sat down and just a look was enough for her to see that Anastasia meant what she said.
Anastasia's word was lord over every witch in the vicinity because she was the queen and no one dared go against her or she would be dissolved with dark magic immediately. Lorna huffed and returned to her seat.
"We need to think of what to do to solve the predicament she'd put us all in and not circle the same thing. We all know Zachary would be back and he would not take it easy on us this time." Anastasia muttered
"He was in a rage last time but this time he'll learn from his mistakes and we would be stupid if we don't prepare for battle." Lily said in agreement.
Anastasia let out a frustrated sigh while rubbing her throbbing forehead. A headache threatened to split her head into two and that was because her sleep had been disrupted due to the issue on the ground.
"What do we do?" Another witch asked in panic.
"Let's call it a night. We'll discuss more on this issue tomorrow. I need to prepare some things before we decide on anything." Anastasia announced the end of the meeting.
"What about her, my queen?" Lorna pointed her index finger toward Zoey while shooting daggers at her with her eyes.
"We're going to torture her and make her wish she were dead!" A witch replied angrily.
"Mind the way you speak Helen." Anastasia corrected the erring witch.
"She deserves to be punished, you can't keep spoiling her because you love her! She did something wrong and she should be punished!" Lorna fired back angrily.
An argument erupted in the Royal Hall. Anastasia drooped in the chair. She was torn between the two things she loved dearly; her daughter and her people.
"She must be punished!" The witches screamed atop their lungs while waiting for Anastasia.
"Quiet." Anastasia ordered in a stern voice after some seconds.
"No matter what she did, she's still my daughter and I would not tolerate any ill-treatment towards her. She'd wronged us all, that's certain and she'll be punished but everyone should stay within their limits, no one should invoke my anger!" She said coldly, staring at everyone present there.
"This should be the last time any of you would do this in my court. Is that clear!?" She thundered, her voice instilling fear in everyone.
"Yes, my queen." They all answered in unison.
"Good. I will give my verdict now. I've not decided on her punishment yet..." She began after a brief silence.
She turned her attention towards Zoey and they locked gazes for a brief second. Mother and daughter were caught in the crossfire. Anastasia wished she could erase this action of Zoey but she couldn't.
"She'll be locked in the dungeon but if any of you dares lay a finger on her, I'll strip that person of all of her powers. Is that clear Lorna?" She asked, giving her second-in-command a scowling look.
"Yes, my queen." She replied in a gloomy voice.
Lorna was definitely not happy with this decision but she could not go against the queen.
"Do not starve my daughter. Keep her there while she awaits my judgment." The queen announced, standing up.
As Lorna dragged her away, Zoey wondered what punishment or judgment awaited her. Deep down she wondered where Zachary was and why he hadn't come back.
"Hey, Mommy's princess, your food is ready." Lorna said in a mocking voice while unlocking the doors to the prison.Rays of the golden sun poured into the prison through a small window as she walked in followed by Lily. A small smile twitched on Zoey's pale figure when she saw Lily."Eat while you still can." Lorna dropped the food tray she brought for Zoey with a thud, splashing some of the content on the table. "Lorna." Zoey reached for Lily's hand on the table but she yanked her hands away."Don't you dare touch me you traitor." Lorna eyed her with distaste and moved away."You didn't have to do that." Lily chided Lorna."I can act as I like. Who knows I might be six feet below by dusk." Lorna pranced out of the room."Hey, don't mind her nasty behavior. She'll come around soon." Lily pulled Zoey into her arms and comforted her. After a brief second, they pulled away and Zoey wiped the dry tears on her cheeks. Lily patted her slowly while waiting for her to speak."What about Moth
"Who attacked us? Why? Is Mother okay?" Zoey's eyes widened in shock as she popped out different questions while following Lily toward the dungeon's entrance"Stay here." "No, I can't. What would I do here?" Zoey wondered."Your mother will have my head if I dare go against her instructions. Remain here, Zoey. I'll try to come back for you." Lily told her before exiting the dungeon.Zoey's heartbeats thumped hard against her ribcage as she paced the dungeon lost in thought. Why did she have such a strange dream about Zach just when they were attacked? What exactly was going on? Unable to find answers, she sat back on her bed to wait for Lily after all she had no choice but to wait. ***************************"Are those potions ready?" Zach turned to address Lucifer, his right-hand man who stood aside waiting for his orders."Yes, Alpha. Everything is ready. We await your orders." Lucifer replied. "Good." Zach nodded. He couldn't wait to avenge the missing girls,
Zoey roved her eyes around the exit to the dungeon as she tightened her grip on the iron bars. Her heartbeats thumped so hard she could hear them. She inched her ears closer so she could pick up the slightest sound but it was all in vain. The exit was as quiet as the graveyard. Letting out a frustrated groan, she cursed inwardly and repeated the same action. It was the same. The dungeon was so far beneath the coven. It was made to prevent the groans of prisoners from disturbing their peace. Never had she imagined that she would grace it someday."Hello!" She screamed as loud as she could, straining her vocal cords but her voice bounced back reminding her that she was all in the dungeon alone."Anyone there?" Zoey shook the iron bars with every strength she could summon but no one replied to her. This wasn't looking good. Lily hadn't come back for over thirty minutes and with each passing second, a pang of deep fear hit her. What if something happened to them? They had powers and mag
Suppressing a low gasp, Zoey's hands flew to her mouth and her eyes widened in shock. She couldn't stop it, a small cry of dismay escaped through her trembling lips as she felt tears stinging at the corners of her eyes. "Zach, why? Why are you doing this to us?" She moaned. "I told you, Zoey! I warned you." Her mother muttered behind her. Approaching them in evident anger, Zach flung his sheath to a corner, ignoring Zoey's questions as he was ready to take them captive. Goosebumps arose on Zoey's skin as deep fear filled her up to the brim. The intensity of his hateful gaze felt like a knife twisting her guts. Someone wake me up from this dream. Her heart pounded so fast she thought it would leap out of her chest any moment now, and all she could do was stare in shock as the man who vowed to love her now regarded her with dark eyes that burned with hatred and malice. Zoey’s stomach roiled in revulsion. The man before her was nothing more than a monster and his very presence ma
Anger reeled in her body, and she began to advance backward slowly but the men advanced towards her, giving her a lustful look that made her blood boil. She doesn't know how to explain it but the thought of men disgusts her, at the moment she wishes to slay all those men that had killed some of the witches. She steps back slowly till her back hits the wall, the men kept advancing until the first one that spoke raised his hand to halt all movements. "If you come near me, I swear to the goddess I serve, you'll regret it." She swore venomously, her breath becoming heavy and unsteady. The men looked at each other and another peel of laughter escaped their mouths. The one in the front began to advance towards her, covering a few inches.Zoey didn't move, she stayed there, her back seemingly glued to the wall... She waited for him to come to her, eyes burning with fury. "You're such a spitfire, let's see how good you are." He muttered, his voice husky and filled with hatred. He grabbed
The jaded feelings that rushed through Zoey's being when she heard his voice was inexplicable. The pain that crushed every cell in her body when she laid eyes on the monster that destroyed her family is greater than the physical pain her body is feeling. Lucifer's claw stopped right on her breast swell when he heard his Alpha's order. Confusion spread across his face and he began to wonder why the Alpha would ask him to stop. He wants to kill her and the urge to give her a miserable death was high in him. "Drop her." Another sharp order came from him and Lucifer dropped him despite the look of confusion laden on his face. Zoey whined in pain as her body made rough contact with the hard floor, she cussed angrily when she noticed one of her breasts was barely covered. She was quick to repair her torn cloth while still cussing Lucifer. Zachary observed the scene before him and the anger he didn't wish to feel overcame him, when he saw her in pain, his body boiled to such an extent th
Zoey was dragged roughly by one of the warriors from the dungeon after their alpha declared that she can live. The stench of blood welcomed her immediately she was outside the dungeon. Along with the sunrise, dead bodies welcomed her. She suddenly felt nauseated due to the cruel way the witches were killed. Most of the dead bodies were either missing one part of their body or almost all their body parts were ripped away. The warrior dragging her fling her outside like she weighed nothing, she hit the floor with a thud, a painful cry erupted from her mouth and the warriors began to laugh at her. Tears fell from her eyes, the pain and guilt tearing through her heart was something she can not contain in so letting them out as tears was the best thing she could do. She's not crying because of the physical pains being inflicted on her, her cries were due to the horrible and scary sight right in front of her. More tears streamed down her eyes when reality hit her. She's responsible for
"Let her dress up and eat, we have a long way ahead of us. As for now, follow me, we need to bury the men we lost." Zach grumbled and began to move but Lucifer's question brought him to a stop. "What if she runs away?"A low chuckle escaped him and it amused everyone. "She won't go very far in those legs of hers, and besides she has no one where to go, she'd been ousted by her own people. They didn't take her along, that explains why she's still in the dungeon... Alone." He replied, emphasizing on his last words and quickly made his way out, his men were quick to follow him. Zoey stared at them and new tears began to form in her eyes, she knew she'd been abandoned but hearing it from him was something that's so painful that she couldn't comprehend or control the tightening painful sensation that formed in her chest. The pain was so powerful that it brought tears to her eyes, a huge lump formed in her throat and she began to shiver again, goosebumps covering her whole body. She dr
