Chapter 3

London.

ALPHA AXEL'S POV.

ALPHA AXEL.

I watched the three alphas’ leave my office after a very unnecessary meeting. Respect was something werewolves didn’t play with but sometimes being young was a disadvantage.

Not long after they left, I heard Daniel and Brandon, two of my three best friends, come in. “Those old folks got it all wrong.”

“You were heaves dropping?” These two were afraid of nothing.

“Doesn’t matter. What do you think caused it? Who did it?” Daniel asked.

The meeting I had just ended was as a result of am upcoming disaster. Something had struck the Northern region, causing trees to dry up and their rivers was drying up to. We in the west have adjusted to modern security but not the north, they still needed their forest. This was bad news. We couldn’t sit back and let it get worse.

“It could be a natural disaster, it also co be an after effect of something that happened a long time ago.”

“We made a list.” Brandon said.

“What list?” I asked, folding my hands, but I had to unfold it again to take a misplaced hair out of my face. I liked keeping my hair long, but I might have to cut it now.

“First, is an enemy. It could be an enemy, who have werewolves of the north offended that could be behind this.” Brad spoke.

I shook my head. “I think the question is, who or what is capable of handling so much power? Who is that strong?”

As I spoke the word the answer came in front of my face. I had seen it before. “A witch.”

“What?” Daniel asked, surprised. Werewolves never talked about being witched.

“We ended things with witches a long time ago, they wouldn’t dare meddle in our business.” Brad stuttered.

“I doubt that.” I stood up. I had to see the queen, if this was a witch’s work, there was going to be more to come.

“Where are you going?”

“I have to see the queen.”

“You don’t know much about witches.” Brad sounded worried.

I needed Raymond.

“I know more than you do,” I replied as I started walking away.

“How about this? I’m sure you don’t know it.” Bradon said.

I stopped and turned to him, I doubted there was something Bradon knew that I didn’t know. “What is it?”

“The more beautiful a witch is, the more power she wields.”

I didn’t know that.

I sighed and walked out, heading for the Queen's office to find her as poise as always, sipping her drink.

After telling her what I discovered, I noticed that the queen didn’t even bat a lash. “I know,” she simply said.

The meeting had just been for formality then. She knew the witches were behind this.

“I would advise you not to spread that information. I would not like my people getting scared.”

I lowered my voice. “We do not have time to sit idle if a witch is behind this.”

“We are not idle, Axel.” The queen stood up. She was a tall woman. Tall enough to look me in the eye. “We would hold a ball.”

“A what?” A party? At a time like this?

“It would be a means to bring all werewolves from far here in London without giving any cause for alarm. We would seek the moon goddess's help, find the powerful crystal stones and end whatever witch is messing with us.”

The crystals were something kids believed to be a myth. It was powerful enough to destroy even the most powerful being. Due to its untold power, it was divided and spread around the world. It would be a whole lot of work finding its pieces.

“But there is something you must fix before we begin the quest to find the crystal stones.”

I stood alert, ready to do anything.

The queen's words shocked me. “You must find your mate. You have more strength when there is a Luna beside you, I know you are waiting for the woman the moon goddess has assigned to you, but if you don’t find her before the end of the day of the ball, you will pick one yourself or I will do it for you.” I knew she was referring to Arthena when she said she would pick one for me.

“Yes, Your Highness.” I bowed.

I met with Brad on my way out.

“You went in with one face and came out with another.”

“The queen wants me to pick Athena as my Luna if I can’t find my mate the moon goddess has chosen for me.”

“Ouch. But, what’s wrong with Athena?”

I gave him a murderous side-eye. Everyone knows Athena. Many wanted her, I just didn’t fall into that category.

My parents were chosen for each other by the moon goddess, they had met under a full moon and had been inseparable ever since. I envied what they had. I wanted something close to what they had.

“Maybe your Luna lives somewhere far away,” he said and I sighed.

I have been waiting for ages to get my mate and my subordinates want a Luna and haven't found her yet.

“Or maybe you could be mateless,” he said seriously, which could be possible.

“What!”
