My Crush Died Saving Me

KALILA POV

I made a mental note as I shuffled to the school lot.

A warm bath.

Make something tasty for the first time.

Get my assignment done.

Courage to approach Apollo and thank him.

I knew I didn't have the luxury of some of the things I listed above, A warm bath and a tasty meal, but there was nothing wrong with me dreaming.

In TRINITY ORPHANAGE-Where I knew as a home, I was only entitled to chilly water once a day and leftovers if there was enough left for someone like me.

And Apollo Bartholomew made staying alive and being in this school-Dandelion Academy- worthwhile. He was my knight in shining armour, and I wish I could do something better than to thank him alone.

Apollo had been saving my ass from all the bullies in DANDELION ACADEMY-Millicent and her followers- for a while which made me develop feelings for him.

No one knew about these feelings but me.

I was only an orphan who managed to get into Dandelion Academy through a scholarship.

Dandelion Academy was an elite school, and only the kids with stinkingly wealthy parents attended the school. I was one lucky girl when the mail arrived, and I saw I had gotten in.

It wasn't hard for everyone to notice that I didn't belong in their cliques, the famous, the wealthy, etc.

No fancy car dropped me off or picked me up, I had only one uniform, which looked too old now, and I looked pitiable.

I never knew that until it was brought to my attention by Millicent.

Nevertheless, I strived hard to survive.

Breathing in and out, I grasped the strap of my backpack as I trudged towards the parking lot in search of Apollo. He was always there, and again; it was the closing hour, so all kids would gather there, waiting for their respective drivers.

I saw Millicent entering her pink Aston Martin, and almost immediately, I saw Apollo opposite where she was. He was speaking to his friends.

I retook a deep breath as I tried to gather the courage to approach him.

My legs tried to move to where he was, but I couldn't. I guess I wasn't confident enough, and also, he was with his friends; I didn't know how and where I'd begin without getting tongue-tied. Again, I might be the object of ridicule.

So, I did what I did best and walked passed him.

I stood for a few seconds and counted to ten, waiting for when he'd be alone. It was one thing to be tongue-tied in front of Apollo, who I believed wouldn't mind at all, he'd definitely wait for me to finish whatever I wanted to say, and it was another to be that way in front of his friends, who wouldn't waste a second to make fun of me.

Eventually, his friends left him, and I let out a relieved sigh. It was an excellent opportunity to talk to him since he was alone.

I walked as fast as I could to where Apollo was before I changed my mind.

A few metres away from him, Apollo raised his head and let out a scream, "Watch out!"

Startled, I halted in my tracks, and he started towards me almost immediately.

The tyres screeching against the pavement snapped me out of my daze, and I swirled.

I saw Millicent's car. I was sure of it.

It sped towards me at high speed.

Run!

Kalila Run!

My subconscious yelled at me. But I couldn't move. I could only watch in a daze.

Was she trying to kill me?!

I saw the wicked glint in her eyes as the car neared before Apollo's arms wrapped around me.

I felt him tug me; he intended to steer me away from the danger, but it was too late.

The car slammed into us hard and fast.

The impact echoed in my ears as I flew through the air along with Apollo. I saw him slam the ground first and lie sprawled awkwardly.

Whereas my body twisted and contorted unnaturally as I sailed the air, it didn't last forever because I hit the pavement.

Pain seared through my body, blinding me to everything else. I felt my bones shatter, and the faint whiff of blood wafted into my nostrils. I didn't know whose it was, but I was sure it could be mine or Apollo's.

I tried to move, to get up, but my limbs refused to obey my commands.

I heard people screaming and the sound of sirens in the distance. It was all a blur, everything happening too fast for me to comprehend.

I was hoisted on a gurney, and I could hear voices, but only what I could make out was, "She's dying!"

The world around me seemed to fade away as I slipped into darkness.

As I slowly opened my eyes, my vision blurred, and my head pounded. I tried to sit up, but my body felt heavy, and my limbs refused to cooperate.

I blinked my eyes several times, and as soon as I could see, I winced. I realised I was lying on a cold, hard floor.

Glancing around, my heart thumped wildly in my chest as I took in my surrounding.

Where the hell was I?!

The room was dimly lit, with no windows and a single door. The air was musty, and the walls were made of rough-hewn stone. I had no idea where I was or how I got here.

But I knew someone must have brought me here.

Had I been abducted?

'No, no!' I shook my head. I didn't want to think of that. I needed to get out of here as soon as I could.

As I struggled to stand up, I noticed that I was in my uniform, and it was stained with blood. My side hurt as hell; it was as if I was beaten countless times and only left alone as soon as I passed out.

I jumped to my feet and shuffled to the door.

I gripped the doorknob and was about to pull, but a voice startled me.

"It's pointless."

I shrieked, slamming into the door, and swirled.

A finger snap which I believed was from the voice, made light flood the room, and my environment seemed to change.

Now, I was in a spacious white room with no one except for an elegant woman. She had white waist-length hair that bellowed around her as if the wind was in it, and the toga she donned wasn't anything I had seen before. It was the purest white, and her skin was glistening. Her bright green eyes stared at me in a way that seemed like she knew many things I didn't.

A mischievous yet warm smile was painted on her lips, and I shuddered.

"W-who are you? Where am I?! Did you abduct me?!" I knew I was rambling, but I couldn't help it.

I needed to know she hadn't abducted me. Also, the reason I was in the room.

She chuckled and shook her head. "I am the goddess Selene. The moon goddess and you are favoured, darling child."

The moon goddess?!

"How did I get here?" I asked again. I didn't know why I was in the spacious white room instead of getting ready for school.

"You died, dearest Kalila..."

"I died?!" I gasped out.

The goddess Selene nodded and snapped her fingers again.

I groaned, holding my head as pain seared through it.

Briefly, various memories flooded my head at once.

I saw Millicent getting into her car, speeding towards me, and Apollo coming to save me. I saw him take his last breath; likewise, I, but the perpetrator, got to walk around freely.

I saw the wicked glint in her eyes and how she pretended to be the victim.

My fists clenched, and I looked at the goddess as she spoke up again.

"You did die, but thanks to the gods, you could live again. But not without a price. You are to complete some missions to accomplish in three months; otherwise, you'll be dead for real this time."

"Mission?"

I couldn't help but shudder at the tone of her voice.

What frightened me the most was her last words if I didn't complete the mission, I'd be dead for real.

Shit!

"But..." I began saying, but the goddess waved her hand before me.

"I can't give more information, but your wolf will help you throughout. Just trust her."

My wolf? What the hell does that mean?!

"Sleep, child." Goddess Selene whispered.

I jerked backward and fell to the ground; as soon as I did, everything went black.

A while later, I came awake again.

I did not know how long I was asleep, but I woke again and noticed I wasn't in the white room again.

Instead, I was in a sort of room with dim light, but I could see everything clearly despite the dimness.

It was a masculine room with boring paintings on the wall. It exuded coldness, and I climbed from the bed to walk to the door.

I tried to think of where I was, but a voice broke my thoughts.

"Welcome to the werewolf world, Kalila; I am Nova, your wolf."
