Chapter 2: The Firm Decision

I couldn't bring myself to spend another minute in the hall watching the same man who I have done nothing but love since childhood treating another she-wolf, who was no one else than my best friend, as the love of his life.

Gathering all the energy remaining in me, I immediately rushed out of the hall before I would break down in tears before everyone, and once I got outside, I ran as fast as my legs could take me until I got back home.

Getting back home, I immediately broke down into tears right in front of the door, letting out the pain and sorrow I have been holding back since Adrian kissed Sarah right before me and the whole pack.

I have always heard that betrayal comes from those very close to us, but never for once did I imagine that I would get to experience what that really means.

With the way Sarah was acting yesterday when I was telling her about how I spent the night with Adrian and couldn't wait for today to come so that he could finally mark me as his mate, I should have suspected that something was wrong, but how could I? After all, I didn't just consider her my best friend, but also my sister. 

As for Adrian, I don't even blame him for choosing my best friend, who is his fated mate, over me. The person I blame in all this is my delusional self, who believed that giving my body to Adrian was going to make him keep his promise of choosing me as his mate even though we weren't fated mates and also crowning me as the Luna of this pack, which is the biggest pack in history.

After crying my eyes out in front of the door, I stood up and made my way inside to do the only thing I had remaining in my mind, which was packing my belongings and leaving the pack.

It's another thing to know that my best friend ended up being the fated mate of my boyfriend and my childhood crush, who I thought would mark me as his mate even if we ended up not being fated mates, but it's completely something else to live in the same pack with them and spend my whole life watching my best friend live the life I had dreamt of since childhood.

"And where exactly are you planning to go if you leave this pack?" Elsa asked me as she mind-linked with me.

"That's none of your business, Elsa," I replied angrily. "You have been quiet since all this while, so I will really appreciate it if you just continue being quiet," I said to her with an angry tone.

"I would have been quiet if we weren't sharing the same body, but unfortunately that's not the case, so before you start making any stupid decisions because of something I have warned you about over and over again, you better let me know so that I can still warn you again, and then you can decide if you will listen to me or not," Elsa said to me, and with that I scoffed angrily at her before shutting off the mind link.

It's true that she had warned me countless times about how I was putting high hopes on the promise Adrian and I made to each other, but still, this wasn't the right time for her to remind me that.

After parking all my important belongings into my luggage, I took my car keys before heading to the exit while dragging my luggage from behind.

Getting to the front of the door, I halted and took a last look at the house where I have spent the rest of my life since I left the Pack orphanage when I grew up. I had thought that the only reason why I would leave this house was to move in with Adrian after he marks me as his mate, but it seems like fate had other plans for me.

Sighing heavily, I quickly wiped away the tears that had started forming in my eyes once again, and then I took hold of the doorknob and opened it, only to be met with the last person who I wanted to see, let alone talk to, at this very moment.

"And where the hell are you going with that?" The person, who was none other than Adrian, asked me with squinted brows while looking at the luggage I was holding.

Given that I wasn't expecting to see him, I froze for a little while before finally regaining myself, and without uttering a single word to him, I dragged my luggage and was about to walk past him when he caught my hand and pulled me back.

"Aren't you the one I'm talking to?" He asked me while peering into my eyeballs with those vicious eyes of his that I always fell for, but with what he had just done today, there was absolutely no way I was going to fall for anything about him ever again.

"Where I'm going to is none of your business," I said to him as I forcefully pulled my hand away from his. "You have already found your fated mate, and you have also chosen her over me, so go back to her and continue celebrating your union," I said to him before turning and walking away with my luggage.

"I never meant to choose your best friend over you, but I had to. If I had decided to mark another she-wolf different from the one the chief priest told my father was my mate, he would have never allowed me to become the next Alpha," Adrian said to me, and with that, I stopped and turned towards him with a sarcastic smile hovering over his face.

"So if I understand well, after all the promises we made to each other, you choose being an Alpha over me, and now you are casually telling me about it hoping that I will understand, right, like a fool that I am right?" I asked him with a sarcastic smile.

"No, sweetheart, that's not true; I have never for once viewed you as a fool," Adrian said to me as he walked towards me and grabbed my hand. "Also, I'm not planning to stay with your best friend for long; all I want to do is secure the throne, and after that I will leave her, and we will get back together," Adrian said to me, and without thinking twice I quickly pulled my hand away from his.

"There's no need for that, Adrian. You have already chosen what matters most to you, and that's the throne and my best friend and I have no intention of becoming anyone's second choice. So, I wish you a happy life with your fated mate and as the Alpha of this Pack. Goodbye, Adrian," I said before turning around and walking towards my car.

 Placing my luggage inside the car trunk, I got into the driver's seat and closed the door before finally allowing the tears I had been holding back to fall freely down my cheeks.

Wiping them away, I took one last look at Adrian through the windscreen, before starting the engine.

Without giving him another chance to stop me, I stepped on the accelerator and drove away from the only home I had ever known.
