Chapter 3: Shocking Scene

*Six Years Later*

"Hello Mum, how are you doing?" Three little tiny voices sounded in unison through the phone after I picked it up and placed it on my ear.

"I'm doing good, my little angels. How was school today?" I asked them.

"School was fine, Mum," they said to me in reply.

"I'm so glad to hear that, and sorry for not coming to pick you guys up as usual; something unexpected came up, but you don't have to worry. I will surely make it up to you guys one way or another, okay?" I asked them.

"Okay Mum, we understand," they said to me in reply.

"Please give the phone back to Uncle James; I want to speak with him," I said to them. 

"Okay, Mum," they said to me in reply.

"Hello, sweetheart. How are things going over there?" James' sweet and comforting voice sounded through the phone.

"Everything is good, babe. Thanks for helping me to pick up the kids from school; I really appreciate it," I said to him with a grateful tone.

"Come on, babe, you don't need to thank me for that; you of all people know that I love picking up the kids from school. You are the one who won't allow me to be doing it regularly," James said to me.

"Come on, babe, you know that I can't allow you to be doing that. Just like me, you also have your own work, and it's not right if I ask you to be leaving your work every day to be picking up the kids, so once again, thank you so much for helping me to pick them up today," I said to him.

"No problem, sweetheart. I hope you will be back early for dinner tonight," James asked me.

"Of course I will," I said to him in reply.

"Okay then, I will be preparing your favourite meal then, and you better not be late," James said to me.

"I won't, I promise," I said to him with a warm smile.

"Okay then, have a nice day ahead and see you in the evening," he said to me.

"See you too in the evening too," I said to him before ending the call.

Dropping the phone, I leant back on my chair with a warm smile still hovering over my face.

After leaving Crimson Pack six years ago, the only safe place I could think of going was the human world, but in order to merge myself into the human world and also prevent Adrian from ever finding me if he wanted, I had to suppress my wolf abilities, and the only way of doing that was injecting some wolfsbane into my system little by little in order not to hurt myself until my wolf abilities were completely suppressed and I became like every other human.

Getting to the human world, my one and only goal was to continue my medical studies, which I had already started in Crimson Pack, but one thing I never expected was for the accomplishment of that goal to be abruptly interrupted because of the one night of passion I had with my ex-boyfriend, who didn't think twice before choosing the throne and my best friend over me.

Yes, that one night of passion led to me being pregnant, and because of the pregnancy, I couldn't continue my studies in the human world. 

Not wanting anything to prevent me from continuing my studies or anything to make me ever go back to Adrian, I didn't think twice before going to a nearby hospital to get rid of the pregnancy. But fortunately for me, the doctor I met that day, instead of proceeding with the termination of the pregnancy, decided to counsel me first, and after listening to everything the doctor said, I changed my mind and decided to keep the pregnancy, and it was later on that I discovered that what I had wanted to get rid of wasn't just one baby but three, and thankfully, I didn't proceed with that.

A year after giving birth, I hired a nanny to be watching over the babies while I continued with my studies, and since I had become friends with the doctor who had stopped me from getting rid of my pregnancy, she helped me to get a part-time job at the hospital, and with the little payment I was getting, I was able to take care of my little regular expenses while continuing my studies.

Four years after hiring the nanny to look after the kids while I attended school and worked part-time at the hospital, I graduated as one of the best surgeons in the city. where I'm living, and just a month after my graduation, I received an offer from one of the biggest hospitals in the city where I'm living, and it's there I have been working for the past two years.

As for James, when we first met and he asked me out, I had no intention of saying yes, after all he was a human and I was a she-wolf. I even told him that I was a single mother in order to get him off my back, as I already knew that male humans don't like going out with a lady who is a single mother. But me being a single mother meant absolutely nothing to him, and despite my numerous refusals to go out with him, he didn't give up until he was finally able to get me to fall in love with him, and honestly speaking, he's the sweetest and loveliest person I have ever known, and it's thanks to the way he treats Ethan, Elias, and Elena my three bundles of joy as if they were his that they don't even ask me about who their real father is.

As these thoughts were running through my mind, a knock suddenly resounded through the door of my office, jolting me back to reality.

"Come in, please," I said, knowing that it was surely one of the nurses of the hospital that was knocking, and with that, the door burst open, revealing one of the nurses just as I had expected.

"Hello, ma'am, it's time for the surgery; we have got everything ready as you instructed," the nurse said to me.

"Okay, let's go then," I said to the nurse before standing and walking out of the office with her...

*Adrian's POV* 

It's been five days since I have been away from the pack for an important annual meeting that takes place once every year, and I couldn't wait to get back to meet my mate and also my father, who has been terribly sick for some while now.

Normally, the meeting was supposed to last over a week, but fortunately this time around it only lasted five days, and since everyone in the pack was expecting me to be back in a week's time, I didn't tell them that I would be back today, and that was because I wanted to surprise them all, including my mate, and I can't wait to see the happy look on her face when she sees me after all these five days that I have been away.

After what seemed like an eternity, we were finally back to the palace, and once I got down from the car, I told the guards that were around not to alert my arrival, as it would ruin the whole surprise.

Taking the little box containing the gift I had bought for her on my way back, I made my way directly to our chamber while nodding to the greetings of some of the maids who were busy with their different activities.

Getting to the front of the chamber, I took hold of the door handle and opened it only to be met with a view that caused me to freeze at the spot. Without even realizing it, the little box that I was holding fell off from my hand.

Right on our matrimonial bed was my mate Sarah making out with my Beta and best friend Leonard.
