“Dante.”

A voice called his name. The voice was soothing and familiar.

As he opened his eyes, the entire cavern was bathed in a soft glow. The silhouette of Queen Hyacinth forms until all the details of her body are now visible within her aura.

“She is a hybrid,” Hyacinth remarked, gazing at the lady next to him. There was a smile upon her face. “Both elf and fae. She has not quite tapped into her elemental powers yet.”

Dante nodded. “She just found out that she is fae by Lady Crystobelle prior to our departure from The Great Willow Tree.”

“I sense a great strength and capability within her,” she told him proudly with a nod of her head. “You have chosen well, Dante. She is the next Queen of the Fae.”

His eyes widened at that. Did the Queen of the Fae just tell him that his mate was the next Queen of the Fae? Had he just misheard her? “I do not understand.”

“I trusted you since you have a heart of gold and you have much wisdom from all the seasons you have lived and will continue to live,” she said with a shrug. “I knew your heart was true when you set foot in Amethystia and Lady Crystobelle said you would do well to choose the next Queen of the Fae.”

The locket.

Queen Hyacinth had given him the locket. He gave it to the one person that he would always protect. Both Hyacinth and Lady Crystobelle believed in his judgment and wisdom that they both gave him the choice to choose the next in line for the Fae thrown. He bit his lip, gazing down at Seraphina.

He did not catch the coy smile that touches the corner of Queen Hyacinth’s mouth until his attention slid to her. “I suppose it is not even a surprise that my successor happens to be your long awaited mate.” He watched Queen Hyacinth gaze at the intricate details of the ancient elvish mating mark ordained by the Soul Tree. “Bring her to Amethystia before you bring the flowers back to the Elovaisus Forest,” she said with a tender smile. “I shall like to meet my successor in person.”

With that, the Queen of the Fae faded away and Dante fell back as sleep tugged him under as if this was all a dream. When morning came, he blinked as the morning sun blinds him. He groaned, pulling her tightly against him. She moaned in her sleep, stirring ever so slightly.

Soon her honey eyes gazed up into his. He understood why Lady Crystobelle was giving him free reign over Tempest. He was Seraphina’s protector and had always been. Lady Crystobelle knew Seraphina was his mate even before he was forced to see the truth. Since Seraphina was both elf and fae, she would bridge the two species together and continue Lady Crystobelle and Queen Hyacinth's reign over the Elovaisus and Crystal Forest.

~

"We are making a trip to Amethystia," Dante announced to his heralds as he and Seraphina emerged from the shallow caves and up the cliffside.

There was a rumble of approval amongst the heralds, but it was Lysander that gazed at him and Seraphina with sharp eyes. For once, he did not even mind if the mischevious elf sought out the truth, because he desired the entire world to know he had indeed found his mate.

"Brilliant," Lysander finally said with a bright smile. His eyes flicked to Seraphina's wrist when she nervously tucked her locks over her ear and his eyes widened. "There seems to be a cause for celebration," he pointed out in awe and Dante smirked. "The Soul Tree has blessed your union."

Seraphina's eyes widened as his words absorbed in her mind. Dante enjoyed the rosy hue blossoming upon her face when all the heralds quickly assessed them, seeking the telltale roots displayed on their wrists and hands. It was more noticeable on her, but his were definitely visible if one looked hard enough.

He noticed Seraphina's eyes swing to his in concern, but he gave her a smile and placed a hand on her back. Dipping his head, he kissed her temple before his eyes met his heralds, who all gazed at them with warmth.

"It is about time," Anders told them with a firm nod of his head. "Perhaps, Lady Crystobelle will allow her to accompany you out of The Great Willow Tree. She would be a great asset to the heralds."

Lysander clapped his hands together. "That is a grand idea. Seraphina, how have you liked your travels as of this far?"

Dante chuckled at Seraphina's stunned expression as the other heralds waited for her to respond. She chewed her bottom lip and she gave them a shy smile before her fingers curled around his wrist.

"I have enjoyed it," she admitted then she gazed up at Dante hopefully. "I-I would love to accompany you."

She had no idea what her future looked like even he did not know what was truly in store. All he knew was the he would follow her and protect her. All of the heralds would especially when it became known she was chosen to be a royal -- their queen.

As if she was expecting him to deny her, she glanced down, bowing her head. He felt her vulnerability and stinging ache, realizing she believed she wasn't wanted by his side. Biting her bottom lip, she stepped away from him to fuss over her horse. He watched his little mate attempt to hide herself away from him, but he did not wish to have an audience discussing private matters.

"Prepare for the journey ahead," he advised and he watched the heralds dash to comply.

His eyes flicked to his mate as he approached her, catching her quick peek over her shoulder at him. Her body was tense and strained. Her fingers busy with the straps of the saddlebags before they brushed over his family crest emblem on it. Grasping her hips, he gently eased her back against him.

Little warrior, do not hide from me, he whispered in her mind, letting his head dip to kiss her neck. Every time, you feel inadequate or unworthy, remember to look down to see the testament of our love. His arms wrapped around her and she relaxed against him. We shall discuss this further when we do not have varied company possibly listening in.

She turned to him, gazing up into his face. Spotting the stubbornness in her eyes immediately, he waited for her to use her voice. If she wanted an audience to discuss this so be it.

"I will not be tucked away and coddled like a weakling," she tossed out at him. "If you attempt to put chains on me, I shall disappear like Calyx." Did his little mate just threaten him? He chewed his bottom lip, assessing her beautiful features. She was nervous, but she was serious. "I am certain Calyx could give me pointers on how to stay hidden."

He smirked. "Is that so?"

He knew his heralds were indeed listening into their conversation now. It had gone too quiet for his liking, but this was a side of Seraphina that he hadn't had the privilege to be blessed with -- her backbone. He wanted this side of her to emerge and take root. He desired her warrior side to flourish. She had always been sweet and impressionable.

"Loving you is as natural as breathing," she told him. "You are the heartbeats of my heart. I may be quiet by nature, but I am not a silent woman."

"Are you warning me that if I decide to leave you behind for your own safety--" he began to goad her.

Her eyes narrowed. "I shall run. You best be as good as a hunter as everyone claims you to be," she cut in. "I suspect I shall have seasons ahead to hide from you since your journeys tend to be unbearably long."

"You are not running from me, little one," he told her calmly. A flash of anger surged within him as well as across her face. He couldn't tell if it was hers or his or both of their entangled fury. Audience or not, this would be settled now before a rift formed. "I have had many seasons before Theodavian as well as you. I would seek you out. There is no place you can hide away from me now."

He cupped her face when she attempted to look away. The uneasiness in her settled within her bones and heart and the helplessness, uncertainty, and pain were back. He could feel all of her emotions settle within his body, but he still felt a block within her. She was holding him back, but he could feel her wall keeping him out breaking.

"I am not a child, Dante," she almost shouted. He watched her struggle with herself. "I will not be kept under lock and key so you can feel secure in leaving me behind."

"I did not purchase you all those weapons and armor for you to be left behind," he reminded her, causing her eyes to snap to him. "We are mated, Seraphina. I am well aware you are not a child. I never intended on leaving you behind. It was your decision to make to become a Herald *not* mine." His eyes pinned hers in place. "I felt your fears and insecurities. Our matebond will not allow us to hide anything from each other. Before it, we hid a lot away from one another. It was seasons of miscommunication and lost time. I do not wish to make the same mistakes. Why do you feel I could easily leave you behind?"

She swallowed then she took a deep breath. "You always did. I watched you leave since I was a child until I came of age," she confessed, blinking back her tears. He felt that wall crumble within her and he felt all her emotions flood him. It was like avalanche, threatening to bury him beneath the painful weight. "I always felt I did not deserve your attention and protection. I saw how the nobility looked down upon me and I hid away in the cottage. Everyone I loved left -- you, Calyx, and Aaron. It was only time before Lady Crystobelle grew weary of me too."

He wanted to strike something. He forced honesty and open communication, but her hidden truths and secrets tore him apart. How could he have not seen her pain all this time?

All this time, she had hidden this away and let it poison her. All this time, she thought she wasn't worthy even though her gifts of healing were legendary and revered.

"I know it is not true now, but when Lady Vylot sought me out, I felt my entire world shatter, because I knew it would be only time that you would completely forget about me," she confessed, tears falling down her cheeks. "I stayed for you to see you when you finally came home after your journeys. Lady Vylot's presence was a harsh and painful reminder that I was an orphan and that someone like you would never truly see me worthy as anything but your ward. For seasons, I stayed, because I could not find the courage to leave. I wanted to see you one last time. I kept telling myself that the war was coming. I thought perhaps that was why you waited so long to honor Lady Vylot."

She swallowed hard, getting lost in her mind and her heart. He desired to pull her against him to soothe this storm churning within her, but he knew they both needed her truth to move forward.

"If I survived the war, I supposed it was easier to not to return to see you rightfully happy," she confessed brokenly. "I did not wish to be a burden. I did not wish you to regret me. I am a nobody. No one would have thought twice about my disappearance or death." She bit her lip and looked down. "I did not want to be left behind anymore watching everyone live their lives but me."

He cupped her face, pressing a kiss to her forehead before she curled her arms around his body. He wrapped her in his arms as she cried into his chest. His eyes darted to his Heralds, who looked equally haunted by her words. His Heralds had always went to her upon their return and before their departure on their journeys. None of them looked down upon her. They were all there when they came across the horrific scene of her and her mutilated parents. They were all protective of her.

You will not be left behind, he promised, holding her tighter. You are meant for more than a simple life, little warrior. You shall see in due time.

“Dante.”A voice called his name. The voice was soothing and familiar. As he opened his eyes, the entire cavern was bathed in a soft glow. The silhouette of Queen Hyacinth forms until all the details of her body are now visible within her aura.“She is a hybrid,” Hyacinth remarked, gazing at the lady next to him. There was a smile upon her face. “Both elf and fae. She has not quite tapped into her elemental powers yet.”Dante nodded. “She just found out that she is fae by Lady Crystobelle prior to our departure from The Great Willow Tree.”“I sense a great strength and capability within her,” she told him proudly with a nod of her head. “You have chosen well, Dante. She is the next Queen of the Fae.”His eyes widened at that. Did the Queen of the Fae just tell him that his mate was the next Queen of the Fae? Had he just misheard her? “I do not understand.”“I trusted you since you have a heart of gold and you have much wisdom from all the seasons you have lived and will continue to li

  • Archer Legacy Prophecy   Jealous Eavesdropper

Layla Kilburn had no problem showing Theo her interest in him. She made no secret about it, holding his gaze, engaging in conversation, touching him, and warming to his presence. She was like all the other ladies who weren't afraid to show their affection towards him. While Caly still refused to reveal her secrets much less allow him near her, he would gladly welcome Layla's advances especially when they resulted in Caly's glares tossed their way like well aimed daggers. It showed him that she wasn't immune to him. If jealousy brought out that proof of her feelings towards him, he'd use it to his disposal. He wasn't a womanizer like Aiden by all means, but he did pay attention to the elvish lord's daughter when she eagerly sought him out. Maybe, he shouldn't indulge if he had no intention of giving into her charms, but when the fire caught in Caly's eyes like it did now, it was worth it to him even if he felt the guilt seep in when he noticed Layla's hopeful expression."How do you li

  • Archer Legacy Prophecy   Not My Secrets To Tell

When Theo watched Calyx disappear into the keep, he continued to stare at the spot she vanished from eyesight. Frustration boiled to the surface as he shook his head at what just took place. His body strung up like a taut string a bow drawn by a readied arrow. He wasn't going to allow her to run away like she had last time... not that she could anyway. To his grim satisfaction, fate and destiny forced her to stay in place and he'd milk that for all it was worth. His eyes found his men in the crowd, but he only lingered upon Amos and Aiden, who understood they would be the only ones to follow. His eyes swept around until he found Aaron standing with the elves at the tower upon the wall. His eyes narrowed, zeroing in on the elf and Aaron sighed. He watched the elf whisper something to his comrads before he tipped his head to indicate down the steps. The redheaded elf walked down the steps and Theo followed him, knowing Amos and Aiden would be hot on his heels.Aaron led them into the vi

Without one more word between them, she watched as Dante continued to look into her eyes before he finally leaned down and captured her mouth again, but this time, it was slow and meandering. Heat between them had dimmed to sizzling during their conversation, but she could feel the warmth of something else -- less desperate, less needy. The desire for him had not dampened, but there was not this need anymore to rush and to take from each other out of fear that these fires would be forever stamped out.Her heartbeat thudded in her chest as his hands once again ventured over her body, caressing her as if he was honey. The pace was maddening but thrilling. Each spike of heightened pleasure stoked the logs, building up the fire between them again. When her hands bravely traveled his arms and chest, she became breathless at the hardness of muscle. She wanted to touch his skin, feel his heartbeat against the bare skin of his chest. Her hands slipped underneath his tunic and her fingers graz

  • Archer Legacy Prophecy   All These Misunderstandings

Sensations burned through Seraphina, ravaging her mind, heart, body, and soul. The mechanics of intercourse was something she had stumbled on in her studies. Ladies had gossiped and men had boasted lewdly, but she had never expected this and Dante had yet to truly touch her.Even the sheer bliss of his touch provoked her heart to pound frantically. There was nothing simple about how her body heated up at the brush of his hands, skimming her bare skin. His lips feasted upon hers as his hands explored the curves of her body. When his lips kissed a path down her jaw and pressed one chaste kiss against her throat that was when everything changed. She let out a strangled gasp. Her body clenched. Her fingers curled into his flesh. He drew her firmly against him as his mouth latched on to the sensitive spot. She squirmed, wriggling her body against his as he feasted upon her. A moan tore through at the feel of his tongue darting out and tasting her."Dante," she whimpered when his teeth scra

Seraphina grabbed the chest and walked over to the mouth of the cavern, bending down to deposit it in the ground. Her entire body radiated with pain. She had been so foolish to desire him the way she had, but she could not have helped it. Dante was a magnificent soul. When he walked over to where she was and she continued to pluck the flowers and placed them into the chest. She refused to look in his eyes. Both her eyes and mouth had already given away too many secrets. He followed her lead and they filled the chest to the brim. When she shut the chest and locked it, she felt like she was locking herself away.“Seraphina,” he called out to her when she shoved the chest back into her pack. Seraphina turned to him from where she sat on the ground. “What did you mean by that?”“Mean by…”“That you are not worthy to be my mate?” he asked.Fear drowned her. The panic was raising up her throat. She did not wish to talk about mates. She did not want to discuss how humiliatingly flawed and un
