The whispers started before sunset.

Aria didn’t need enhanced hearing to know the moment she stepped into the main house, she felt it.

Eyes.

Too many eyes.

Conversations that stopped when she passed.

Her wolf bristled immediately.

Good.

At least she wasn’t imagining it.

“…they’re talking,” her wolf growled inside her head.

I noticed.

Across the room, Ryan stood near the large windows, speaking quietly with two senior wolves. But the second Aria entered

His head turned.

Locked.

Found her instantly.

That dangerous awareness again.

It hadn’t faded since the training field.

If anything…

It had gotten worse.

Selene appeared smoothly at his side, her posture relaxed, her expression pleasant.

But her gaze flicked briefly to Aria.

Sharp.

Measuring.

Then gone.

Aria’s stomach tightened.

Yeah.

Something was definitely brewing.

Selene moved carefully.

She always did.

Later that evening, she found Ryan alone near the strategy room, his posture tense, shoulders tight with the kind of focus that meant his mind was working overtime.

Perfect.

“You’re troubled,” Selene said softly as she approached.

Ryan didn’t turn immediately.

“You’re observant.”

Her lips curved faintly.

“I have to be.”

A pause stretched.

Then carefully

“Aria is… unusual,” Selene added.

Ryan’s shoulders went still.

Just for a second.

Small.

But telling.

Selene’s eyes cooled slightly.

Interesting.

Very interesting.

“I’m handling it,” Ryan said finally.

But Selene noticed something most wouldn’t.

He didn’t sound certain.

And that

That was new.

Aria shouldn’t have been in the forest this late.

She knew it.

Her wolf knew it.

But sleep had become impossible again every time she closed her eyes, that power under her skin pulsed restlessly, like it was stretching… growing.

Changing.

She exhaled slowly into the cool night air.

Big mistake.

Because she wasn’t alone.

“You keep running when you’re overwhelmed.”

Ryan’s voice came from the shadows behind her.

Aria closed her eyes briefly.

Of course he followed her.

“Do you ever mind your business?” she asked.

He stepped closer.

“No.”

Honest.

Annoyingly honest.

The distance between them shrank again not quite touching, but close enough that her wolf immediately pushed forward.

Ryan’s breath hitched.

There it was again.

That crack in his control.

His voice dropped.

“…you’re reacting to me.”

Her pulse jumped violently.

Say something smart, her brain begged.

Unfortunately…

Her wolf had other plans.

It happened fast.

Too fast.

Ryan reached for her maybe to steady her, maybe to stop her from stepping back but the moment his fingers brushed her wrist

Power surged.

Violent.

Sharp.

The air around them pulsed hard enough to rattle the leaves overhead.

Ryan froze.

Completely.

His grip tightened instinctively.

“…Aria,” he said slowly.

Her eyes lifted to his.

And for one terrifying second

They flashed.

Not just gold.

Something deeper flickered beneath.

Ryan’s breath left him in a rough exhale.

Because now…

Now he was sure.

“You’re not just wolf,” he said quietly.

Not accusation.

Not yet.

But dangerously close.

Who are you?

He asked as if shaken by the confirmation of what he had just seen.
