Jing Kerou

“Hello sister you'll be stuck with me for a while.”

She whispered “What are you doing? You are attracting attention”

He grinned again and the urge to wipe the smirk off his face grew bigger. She sighed, deciding to ignore him. The teacher walked in and her attention was successfully diverted.

Minutes after the class, Mo Yuan went off to his group of friends while she sat for a while. Her emotions in disarray. She signed the adoption papers the day before  and legally became a part of their family. She couldn’t deny that as much as it pleased her, she was baffled. Who in their right minds would adopt someone they knew nothing about. Maybe, they investigated her but still…. Anyway, she would accept things has they come.

“Mo Xin Er. Earth to Mo Xin Er!” She heard and jolted from her thoughts, seizing the hand holding her arm. She sighed when she looked beside her and saw Yun Miaomiao looking at her earnestly.

“What’s wrong?”

“erm… You and Mo Yuan. What is between you?” she asked and Mo Xin Er couldn't help but frown. What a blunt way to ask such a question. What was wrong with her anyway? It wasn’t like they were close enough.

The girl seemed to sense her discomfort and quickly defended herself “I didn’t mean it that way. Really! I was just curious”

“He is my brother”

“Huh? What?”

“Anything else?”

“Wait. Hang on, please. Is that the truth? You’re his sister?”

“I said that the other time” She was getting uncomfortable with the questions and the way she was staring at her like she could pounce on her at any moment.

“Oh, yes. But Xin Er, we’ve been in the same class together for three years. You never shared a single sentence with him”

“That’s our family tradition. Got a problem with that?”

Yun Miaomiao was speechless!!

She finally realized why her hands were itchy. Mo Xin Er gave one the urge to beat her up. Who the hell answers questions like that?

She turned to look beside her only to be met with an empty seat. The girl was gone.

Mo Xin Er walked along the school hallway passing by the familiar cream colored walls. It was full as always with each person trying not to get squished by the crowd. As she walked off, she could see Jing Kerou, the school belle standing in the midst of a group of boys. She seemed to be angry!!

Anyway, none of her business.

She soon got to her destination. The cafeteria. She walked in, stalking off to the counter and took her food. The cafeteria was especially filled to the brim today and she had no idea why. There was simply no empty seat for her. She sighed and turned to leave when a certain raven haired boy popped beside her.

“Sister” She couldn’t help but feel warm in her heart. The boy had accepted her so easily.

“What's wrong?”

“Come sit at my table”

“Huh?”

“Come.”

He held her hand and led her towards a table. A group of boys were seated around the table chattering and eating. She couldn’t help but furrow her brows unconsciously. She knew most of them however she was sure they might have never even heard of her before. It wasn’t her fault. She just totally blended in the crowd that no one hardly noticed her.

She sat beside him under the heated gazes of his friends. She was definitely not comfortable under such attention!!

“Wow. She's pretty”

“Hey Mo Yuan, which class is she in? Never seen her in school”

“You have such good eyes. We're friends remember. And friends share things.”

“Oh shut up. Don’t get any ideas. She's my sister. You try any tricks and I’ll crush your bones.” She heard him rebuke and smiled contentedly.

“Your sister? Since when did you have a sister?”

“None of your business. What do you think? She's very pretty, right? The genes run in our blood”

“You don’t even resemble each other at all.”

“We don’t resemble each other, my ass. I really want to beat you up right now”

They all laughed heartily as they joked around but for the first time, she didn’t get forgotten.

School finally ended and she was totally shocked when he suddenly appeared beside her with his bunch of friends from earlier.

“Hey blue eyes”

With a creased brow, she turned to them and spotted the one who called her that. He was the one who said something about sharing among friends in the cafeteria. She looked back at Mo Yuan and found he had packed her things in her bag. It was currently hanging on his left shoulder as he slung his arm around her. He led her through with the rest of his friends beside them as they passed through the hallway.

She was aware of the sudden change. Something felt different and foreign as she walked with the guys. She didn’t feel isolated.  There were people who accepted her for who she was. She liked this change, after all.

“Mo Yuan”

A voice rang out from the end of the hallway and they paused for a moment before turning around to see Jing Kerou standing with her hands on her hips. And worse, she looked really pissed!!

“Oh, hi.”

“What the hell are you doing?”

He frowned at her sudden outburst “What do you want?”

“Who is she?”

“And since when did my affairs become yours to know about?” She seemed stunned and bit her lips probably in frustration as they turned to leave.

“Is it because of her? You rejected me because of her?”

“What nonsense are you spouting now?”

“Isn’t it true? You rejected me because of this wimp.”

“Do you think you’re worth my attention?” He scoffed. “You think too highly of yourself. Let's go, sis”

He scoffed and walked off with her. She could still hear King Kerou cursing and stomping her feet behind them.
