Author's POV

Emerald kept quiet and stared at the table blankly in half-sleep, even though her heart was on fire; she was dying with anxiety inside.

She will die if he forces her to kill Ruby, she has protected and shielded Ruby from the dark for her whole life, she still cries for not able to express her love towards her little sister openly, it was so hard to make your innocent sister's life hell but she had to do it with stone heart. Still, if he makes her kill her, then she will lose it.

She was trying hard not to let him know that Ruby matters to her. Everyone thinks that Emerald hates Ruby and she prefers that. She was silently praying for Egon to think the same and leave her alone.

"I'll take your permission, King..."

Ruby started packing her bags while wiping her tears. She looked at Emerald, who wasn't even looking at her. Ruby has never been able to understand why Emerald hates her so much; her hate always broke her heart, but she still feels bad for her.

"Queen__"

"Fuck off!"

Emerald scowled at her hatefully.

"Useless Bitch!"

She mumbled loud enough to make them hear.

Ruby looked at Egon, embarrassed, and rushed out while wiping her tears.

Emerald watched her going out with a pissed off face, but she couldn't explain how relieved and happy she was to see her little one walking out alive. Her throat filled with the cry but she didn't let it come out.

Egon locked the gun and placed it in his waistband, admiring Emerald's pissed off face.

He knows that Emerald is annoyed with Ruby because she helped him with some secrets to avenge her insult in Emerald's court and that's why she is still alive but he also knows that Emerald has soft spot for her little sister, he can hurt her by killing Ruby but he wants to keep her for the perfect time.

He didn't realise that he was watching her for so long that she fell asleep at the table. He sat beside her, rested his face on his hand and watched her closely. She was looking adorable like a cute baby sleeping peacefully. Her rosy lips were parted slightly and he felt the urge to touch them with his.

"Adorable!"

He sighed dramatically and splashed the glass of cold water on her.

Emerald woke up with a jolt and a gasp when she got waterboarded. Her head throbbed as she pushed back her wet hair and looked at him shocked.

He was leaning in his chair with an arrogant smirk.

"Good Morning, Queen!"

She coughed out the water and grabbed her head; she wanted to cry out loud, frustrated. All she needs is good sleep.

"What do you want?"

She sounded defeated.

"I want many things, Emerald but right now, I just want you to follow me."

He gave her a mocking, sweet smile and got up.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath and got up to follow him. She knows that he is planning to do some fucked up thing, and she is getting anxious about it.

She was extremely sleepy and her feet were not letting her keep up the pace with Egon, yet she followed him out, and little stones pricked her bare feet. He was leading him into the forest.

Emerald fell on the ground exhausted. She wanted to come out and feel the fresh air, but not like this. She is tired and wants to sleep very badly.

She is also aware that he is doing it on purpose to torture her.

Egon turned around and looked at her as she fell on her knees and sat on the ground. She was looking exhausted. He smirked and knelt before her, looking at her mockingly.

"Tired already?"

He grabbed her jaw and gently tilted her head up.

She begged him with her eyes.

Egon extended his hand towards her, but she flinched back and tried to scoot back. He jerked her forward by grabbing her ankle and gathered her in his arms.

She wrapped her hands tightly around his neck, scared that he would drop her. Her face was near his neck, her breath fanning him.

He tightened his hold on her as her hair scent teased him. Her hands were tighter than a snake's hold around his neck.

He looked down at her as he walked into the forest. Her face looked so innocent, he almost melted, almost, but his heart hardened the moment he recalled what she had done. He is not going to go easy on her, not in any case.

Emerald couldn't understand where he was taking her. It must be something important because he is carrying her there; he usually avoids picking her up, but now he is doing it, so it means she is in trouble.

"Egon, I can't take anything right now... Please, let me go!"

She requested, tears pricking her eyes.

He looked at her amused.

"These words don't suit your mouth... Let's stick to our characters, shall we?"

Emerald released a deep breath when he carried her into the deep forest and placed her down.

She froze in her place when she saw her mother standing in front of her.

"Mother!"

She mumbled in disbelief, she wasn't expecting Egon to find her.

The woman standing in front of her is extremely cunning and expert when it comes to survival. The way she was hidden, it was impossible to find her, but Egon did, and she is here now.

She looked at her mother, the arrogance and ego were still visible on her face. The former queen's aura was still present. Emerald noticed that she was still living the best life while being underground, the stylish boots and branded leather jacket, her grey hair falling elegantly on her shoulders, and her wrinkly face was still fresh. Looked like Egon hadn't tortured her yet.

Her mother looked at Emerald and was filled with guilt.

"I am sorry... We couldn't protect you."

Emerald looked away from her; she was in no situation to show her feelings because she knew that Egon was going to ruin it all for her.

"No hugs and kisses, ladies?"

Egon mocked.

"One last time?"

He mocked her mother.

"No?"

"Stop this dirty game, Egon."

Her mother, Bertha scowled at him.

"You want to kill me, do it and get over it... I am not fond of this drama. You are too slow, kid. You should have killed her by now. Playing with fire is not a smart move."

She pointed at Emerald.

"What are you trying to prove by keeping her captive, or do you think that hurting her body will satisfy your vengeance?. How are you doing it? By satisfying your wicked manly needs? Yes, that's what men in your family do. Are you enjoying destroying her purity, because you people are always entertained by that? Tell me, Egon, are you enjoying being a monster like your father?"

Egon smirked.

"Common, Bertha... I won't touch this, your evil, satanic daughter, even if she is the last woman on this earth. Trust me, I have way better options than her. The purpose of keeping her alive is something else, and you would have found it out if you weren't dying today."

Emerald looked at him with glossy eyes when he said that.

"Come on, Emerald... Be a good girl and kill your arrogant mother..."

Emerald shook her head.

"Egon, please!"

She begged.

"Don't make me do it."

"Come on, I don't have a time..."

He looked at his watch and mocked her.

"Quick! You need to get your beauty sleep too."

She shook her head furiously.

"Please, listen to me... I beg you, Egon... Stop this, stop this madness... Please!"

Bertha closed her eyes and let her silent tears escape. Watching the queen like this was just a dream for her.

"Queen, don't beg!"

She requested.

Emerald ignored her and kept requesting Egon, who was standing with a bored expression.

"Kill her, Emerald!"

He grabbed her jaw and forced the knife into her hand.

"Remember that we have just started the game, if you break so easily then it won't be fun."

He smirked mockingly and kissed her forehead.

"Come on, be a good girl and stab your mother."

Emerald cried hysterically as he pushed her towards Bertha.

Bertha nodded with glossy eyes, giving permission to kill her.

"Do it!"

Emerald hugged her mother, and Bertha was going to hug her back, but she got stabbed and her breath got stuck in her chest.

Emerald dropped the knife filled with blood and dropped to her knees to the ground as her legs couldn't hold her up. She felt numb, not even a single tear came out, it was like this was the first stroke to her sanity. The first jerk to everything she was protecting.

Egon was standing there with crossed hands over his chest, a tight jaw and angry veins popping on his forehead, his eyes turned red and glossy as he watched Emerald mourning silently for her mother, not because he was feeling bad, but because he was not feeling satisfied; he wanted to do more. The pain should be unbearable for her, where her chest would burst out with the pain, yet she won't be able to cry or express. She would try to clutch on the time to stop the madness, but it won't be possible. He will give her so much pain that she will forget what happiness feels like.

He wants to do the worst.

She will beg for death and he won't give her.

There is more to come and she will take it all, like a good girl!

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

Every stone, every hallway, every echo of that place carried the weight of what had been done to them—every wound they endured, every injustice that had carved itself into their story. Without Emerald beside him, the castle had become a living ghost, suffocating him with memories he wasn’t strong enough to face.So he had walked away.Yet today, he stood in front of it again. The familiar walls stared back at him like they recognised him—like they remembered the man who once ruled them. And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
