Author's POV

Emerald was running errands. She was not trying to get away from Egon, but herself and her pain.

That house was important to her; it had many memories and feelings attached to it. She kept it hidden and cherished since childhood.

She couldn't believe that it's gone now, even if she makes it again, it won't feel the same.

It was hard for her to bear the pain, the real pain which he had inflicted on her right now.

She lost track of how long she had been walking, her feet fell numb, and she collapsed on the ground, but mourning didn't stop.

Her swollen eyes looked up when his shoes stopped in front of her. He knelt down in front of her and sighed.

"Emerald!"

She was in pain.

She cried like a baby in front of him.

"How to control it?... I can't stop it... Help me, please!"

She begged and crawled into his arms.

Egon gathered her in his arms and rubbed her back.

"It's okay, it will go away but not the scars it will leave behind."

She clutched his shirt as she cried her heart out in his arms, his shirt drenched in her tears.

He wasn't expecting her to demand comfort from him at this moment.

But she was always like this, you never know what she will demand.

It has no logic to it, it will feel amusing and weird at the same time.

She is famous for her unpredictable nature.

Right now she is hugging him, seconds later she will try to kill him.

He still remembers their second encounter.

#Flashback#

Egon was in a meeting room with foreign clients, this deal was important for him to get. It would have expanded his market.

He took his seat and tilted his head, confused at Spider, thinking why they hadn't started meeting when he was already there.

Spider talked to the person and tensed. Scared to even inform Egon about it but he had to.

Egon turned his head towards Spider as he walked towards him but at the same moment, the door opened and Emerald entered with her bodyguards.

He looked at her queenly aura; she was in a suit. Attitude and arrogance on point. The boring meeting suddenly looked interesting.

Emerald didn't know that she would see Egon again like this, but she couldn't say that she didn't like the unexpected meeting.

She took a seat, and Egon smirked at her, to which she replied with her own small smirk.

His eyes were struggling to move from her while she was openly checking him out.

Both were busy flirting with their eyes while their guards were sweating and were worried because of this unexpected encounter.

"I know that the families of the two of you don't get along and have been rivals for centuries, but I want the best one to do the deal with. This is business after all..."

The man said but these two were busy eye fucking each other.

The man explained the deal and got up.

"I explained myself, now you decide who wants to do the deal with me."

"We'll decide... Wait outside!"

Emerald ordered, and the clients walked out, but their guards didn't. All of them were hesitant to leave them alone together in a closed room.

They both looked at their guards mockingly until they felt embarrassed and walked out of the room.

"Give me this deal."

She looked at Egon when they were alone.

He smirked at her fearless demand.

"Convince me!"

He leaned back in his chair.

Her eyes travelled down his neck and to his suit-clad muscles.

He watched her as she got up and circled the table to approach him, her high heels tapped on the floor, and he had never heard anything so sexy before.

His smirk widened as she stood between his legs and leaned against the table.

"This deal is too small for you... It's not going to benefit you."

She leaned down and closed one button of his shirt, which was showing his chest and making it hard for her to focus.

"Why waste time on it?"

She noticed how his eyes were smirking at her cleavage, so she placed her slender finger under his chin and made him look at her face. She loves how their skin feels together.

She turned around to leave, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her onto his lap.

She gasped and grabbed his shoulder to balance herself.

"So bold of you to pull the queen like this."

Her eyes admired his confident face. This man is really interesting to her.

"Says the only woman who has managed to touch my collar"

His hand rested on her thigh, and she watched it as it travelled upwards and snaked around her waist.

She closed her eyes as he gently pushed her hair back from her shoulder and his fingers touched her skin.

She moved her neck and her face brushed his side of the cheek, making her scent tease him.

He took a deep breath like he was struggling to control himself and saw her little smile like she knew what she was doing to him.

"Why do you need this deal?"

He played with her hair.

"Because I like diamonds."

Their faces were so close, they were struggling not to lock their lips.

"That's it?"

His thumb caressed her lips gently.

"That's it! I am a simple woman"

She chuckled.

He chuckled deeply.

"Sure!"

"Would you have been the same considerate woman if there had been someone else in my place?"

He teased.

"Nahh, it's easier to take heads with me than leaving a piece of heart behind."

She removed his hand from her cheek. She was going crazy under his touch.

Egon chuckled at her smart reply.

"What will I get in return?"

She leaned closer, her cheek slightly brushing his like she was teasing him.

"I know you are a great businessman, Egon... But you shouldn't see business in everything..."

She was about to get up but he didn't let her.

"You are right, my queen but it's not about business."

She blushed but her confidence didn't shake.

"Whatever you can take from me but let me warn you, it's not easy!"

"We will see!"

He chuckled with the same confidence.

"Take the deal."

She smiled.

"You are smart. I am impressed!"

He let her go, she got up and she turned around to go back to her seat.

"What are you doing tonight?"

He asked.

"I don't tell my plans to my enemies."

She winked and he shook his head amused.

#Flashback Ended#

After some time Emerald had calmed down and was sitting under the tree alone. He went to look for a way out.

Egon came back and looked around.

"Is this forest a maze?"

He questioned her and she covered her face with a big sigh.

He huffed.

"Great! We are stuck in it now!"

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
