Author's POV

Emerald didn't try to find a way while Egon checked out all the ways.

"You know the way out."

She was still fiddling with her fingers as he questioned her.

"I don't know..."

She mumbled.

He shook his head and looked around. He knows that she knows but doesn't want to tell him.

He grabbed her arm and pulled her to her feet. She followed him wherever he was taking her.

After some time, her legs started hurting, and it was getting dark; they didn't even realise that they had spent the whole day in the forest searching for a way out.

"Why don't you call your men and ask them to bring a helicopter for you? Isn't that more convenient than wandering in the forest?"

She asked pulling her hand back from his hold.

"Have you ever seen me taking shortcuts?"

He turned around and saw her state. She was huffing, and her face was red from exhaustion.

"You can't get everything on time without using shortcuts."

She sat down while taking her shoes off and started massaging her feet.

"Little tricks work, Emerald. I don't need a helicopter to get out of here. You led me here, you will lead us out."

He mocked but saw her swollen feet. She has been running ever since she got out of the house. Her little legs have no rest.

"But if you want, we can stay here tonight."

She looked at him, not believing he was thinking about her convenience.

"Okay!"

They found a good place where they could stay for the night.

She was sitting on the grass and was watching Egon collect dry wood to light the fire. He had taken off his shirt and was unfazed by the windy night.

Her eyes refused to leave him, no matter how much they refused to admire their captor.

He placed the wood down and tried to light the fire naturally, as he had thrown away his lighter.

But the woods were not dry enough to ignite the spark from them.

He walked away to find dry wood and came back when he finally found some but saw that Emerald had already sparked up the fire on the dry grass with the help of stones.

He wasn't expecting her to do that, the way she has lived in luxury and a palace her whole life, logically, she isn't supposed to know this, let alone do this.

He knows it because he is trained unlike her.

She took her place when she lit the fire. He also took his place and sat on the other side of the fire.

Both were face to face but she wasn't looking at him. The silence was louder than the words between them.

Egon lay down on the dry grass and placed his head on his arm.

Emerald watched him as he slept peacefully after destroying her dream house. For the first time, she has experienced so much pain, and if this is what he has experienced, then she can't even hate him.

She very proudly and bravely told him that she doesn't regret killing his family but she does, whenever she looks at him, she regrets it.

Because he is in pain.

She has given the worst pain to the only man she loves.

She lay back and tried to sleep, but it was uncomfortable on the ground, and stones were pricking her skin. Little light flies were bothering her and she couldn't keep her head on the ground. She was also worried that some wild animal might attack her in her sleep.

She turned towards Egon and he was sleeping peacefully. His head was on his arm, leaving enough space on his arm to rest her head.

She couldn't resist the temptation and went to him.

Egon opened his eyes when he heard her footsteps. He couldn't trust this woman. She can throw a rock at him in sleep and won't bat an eye.

She stood beside him and looked at him tiredly.

His eyes followed her movements as she sat beside him.

"I haven't slept for nights because you were haunting me... Am I allowed to sleep tonight that you have caught me now?"

She mumbled.

He answered with his blank look, and she lay beside him, taking his arm as a pillow and his warmth as a comforter.

She looked at him as he kept staring at her in thought. She looks tiny in front of him, his frame overpowers her even when they are lying down.

"Why does life have to be so painful, Egon?"

She mumbled. Her pain paired with his eyes.

"Because we are villains... Villains don't get a happy ending."

He tucked a strand behind her ear when she buried her feet between his crossed legs to seek warmth.

"When you run next time, make sure you are wearing proper shoes."

"My body deserves the same pain as my mind."

She placed her hand on his chest, and his heartbeat gave her a different kind of peace, which is weird in their fucked up relationship.

Egon touched her face and brought it to his lips.

"No! It doesn't."

She closed her eyes as his hand slowly travelled from her hand to her waist, under her shirt.

Her delicate hands roamed on his shoulders and naively tried to pull him closer.

Their Faces caressed each other, the breath transferred heat and boundaries got blurred.

She moaned in his mouth when he grabbed the flesh on her waist and pulled her closer, their lips deepened in each other.

He was devouring her, slowly and passionately.

She tangled her legs with his and he pulled her under him

His big body hovered over, and the size of his chest and shoulders was enough to intimidate anyone.

They didn't break the kiss, none of them pulled away.

His lips travelled on her neck, sucked on her neck like he was starving. Their bodies were on fire, too wild to control.

Emerald had clutched his arms tightly while moaning for more. They have spent countless passionate moments and she cherishes each and every second of it.

But should she trust this moment now?

Tonight he will consume her, but what about the morning? He will wake up with satisfaction, and she will be hollow because they will go back to chasing and running a game. It will be his advantage and her defeat.

Her eyes snapped open when she thought about it.

"Stop!"

She quickly sat up when he stopped.

Egon grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her back when she tried to leave. His eyes were bloodshot red when she came eye to eye with him.

She has awakened the monster inside him, which is hard to control now.

"We can't do this!"

She breathed out.

"I can!"

He smirked and her eyes widened.

"No! You can't do this to me."

She struggled to set free and bit his hand when he didn't let her go. His hold loosened and she took the chance. Egon watched her as she sprinted into the dark.

He smirked.

"Here we go!"

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
