28. The Gift!

last update 最終更新日: 2025-11-26 21:31:28

Author's POV

Emerald looked around and saw Egon behind her, he wasn't even running. His long strides were enough to chase her. She couldn't understand if he was walking fast or she was running slow.

She finally ran out of the forest and halted in her place when she saw Spider waiting by the car.

"Caught you!"

Egon whispered in her ear from behind.

She flinched and tried to run away but he grabbed her arm and pulled her back. She struggled in his hold.

"Egon, you are anything but___"

"Interested in fucking you."

He completed it for her.

"I just wanted you to lead us out. You did!"

She looked at him in disbelief.

"Are you really stepping that low now?"

"You think so highly of me, I was always like this... Get inside the car."

He patted her cheeks mockingly.

Emerald shook her head and stormed towards the car. Egon watched her as she slammed the door shut and chuckled.

"Someone's ego got hurt."

He knows she doesn't like it when he doesn't show interest in her.

She watched him talking to Spider and gritted.

"He has no interest in me?"

She glared at him.

"Did he forget how I brought him to his knees in front of me?... You shouldn't have challenged me, Egon... Now you will see how games should be played..."

It took a long time for him to finish the conversation with Spider, when he came back, she was asleep.

He sat beside her and saw her sleeping like a baby. A loud sigh escaped his lips. All she wanted was to sleep peacefully in his arms, and he made her run again.

She was struggling to keep her head up, and he caught her before she could bang it on the front seat and placed it on his chest.

She snuggled into his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.

This woman is a trap for him and he is trapped in her.

Killing her is impossible, keeping her alive is going to ruin him for good and letting her go will be like a soul leaving its body.

There is no way to get rid of her, and he has yet to decide what to do with her.

They shouldn't have got involved with each other in the first place, but it felt so thrilling that they couldn't stop each other. Their crazy encounters were adventurous.

#Flashback#

Emerald was getting ready for the party, she looked at herself in the mirror and admired herself.

"Am I looking good?"

Her makeup artist got alerted.

"As always, queen... What made you question that?"

She let out a sophisticated huff, not telling her that there is a man whose eyes she wants on her only. She walked away without solving the mystery for the girl.

Emerald entered the party, and as usual, all eyes went to her. People greeted her wherever she went.

Egon was watching her from the corner. He was enjoying his drink while the queen was enjoying the honour. He had to give it to her, this woman had rizz. There is no other attraction in the room when she is there.

He noticed how her eyes were searching for someone, and that tiny, frustrated frown indicated that she hadn't found it yet.

Her eyes finally found him and stopped there, looking like the search was over. He smirked and raised the glass in her direction, silently greeting her.

She smirked back when he did that. After mingling at the party, she excused herself and went to the washroom.

The washrooms were more luxurious like a private room. Perfect place for secret lovers.

She stood in front of the mirror and counted.

"One, two, three___"

The door opened and Egon entered. She chuckled, she knew he was going to follow her.

He locked the door behind him and watched her through the mirror.

"How is it fair?"

She turned around and leaned against the vanity.

"I haven't even started doing unfair things yet."

"Looking like a goddamn goddess and you expect me to keep my calm."

He easily lifted her up and placed her on the vanity.

She spread her legs, letting him stand between them. The slit in her dress exposed her thigh for him.

"Congratulations on killing my 43 men."

He chuckled at her taunt.

"Just like you killed my 40. I returned with interest."

She admired how deadly gorgeous he looked.

"Fair enough!"

His hand rested on her exposed thigh.

"Did you like the flowers?"

"Which flowers?"

Her eyes travelled along with his hand, which was going up her thigh. Only she knew how she was controlling herself.

"I received many flowers throughout the day, how will I know which ones were sent by you..."

She snaked her slender hands around his neck and closed the distance between their faces.

"You are the king... I expect you to send me something which will leave a mark behind..."

He caressed her neck and rested his palm on the back of her neck under her hair.

"I can leave many marks behind, queen... The thing is, will you be able to hide it from the world?"

That made her smile vanish. She nodded.

"True! I need to leave."

They both know that they shouldn't be doing this.

He lifted her up and placed her down.

"Until next time!"

He kissed the back of her hand and walked away.

Emerald went downstairs and got busy at her party, people were coming and talking to her.

One man approached her for the dance and she accepted so she could escape from the boring conversation.

She was on the dance floor and her eyes found Egon again. Her heart dropped to her stomach when she saw that look in his eyes.

He clearly didn't like her in someone else's arms.

"You look gorgeous, Queen."

The man who was dancing with her complimented her.

"I know!"

She was still looking at Egon.

"Would you like to come with me after the party, I'll take you somewhere interesting."

He placed his hand on her waist.

She stopped dancing and her vicious eyes turned towards him.

"Somewhere interesting where you would try to fuck me and I'll take your head in return... Let's cut it short, I am in no mood to ruin my clothes with blood today..."

She threatened him and looked at where Egon was standing but he was gone. She walked away and the man scowled.

"Like no one has fucked her, bitch!"

He rolled his eyes while wiping his sweaty face with trembling hands and got off the dance floor.

Emerald went back to her house, she smiled when she recalled Egon's jealous face.

She wanted to see what this man could do in jealousy.

In the morning when she woke up, her maid came with the gift box. There were no flowers today.

She knew that it was from Egon and was eager to see what he had sent, which would leave his mark, unlike others who sent just flowers.

She opened the box and her maid screamed.

Meanwhile, Emerald smiled ear to ear.

She grabbed the letter and opened it.

"Be careful whom you let touch the thing which is mine."

She smirked at the chopped hands of the man with whom she was dancing last night.

"I love this man!"

She kissed the letter. The gift was really different from anyone else's. Crazy and filled with madness, just like her.

#Flashback Ended#

Egon went back to his room when he placed her in her room and Spider was waiting for him.

"Did you find out on who's name she brought that house?"

He questioned. Emerald got that house when she was seven years old, and legally, she can't buy it in her name because she was a minor, so there must be someone whose name she would have registered it in.

As much as he knows her, she will never keep her property in someone's name whom she doesn't trust.

Spider gave him the papers, and Egon frowned as he read the name.

"Who's this? Find out!"

He hasn't heard about this person, but if Emerald is hiding them, then it's someone important.

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

Every stone, every hallway, every echo of that place carried the weight of what had been done to them—every wound they endured, every injustice that had carved itself into their story. Without Emerald beside him, the castle had become a living ghost, suffocating him with memories he wasn’t strong enough to face.So he had walked away.Yet today, he stood in front of it again. The familiar walls stared back at him like they recognised him—like they remembered the man who once ruled them. And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
