3. Bringing her in!

last update Last Updated: 2025-11-16 23:37:16

Author's POV

Emerald was still on the ground, rain was pouring on her like it was equally angry as Egon. She didn't mind, misery is a part of life.

Egon was watching her from the window, and she was drenched in rain. Water was making a puddle around her, yet she wasn't moving. He also knew that she could hardly move due to her weakness. She wasn't passed out yet, he could see her eyes blinking. She was just silently mourning for her sister's death.

He loves to see her like that, but she is no longer screaming after the death of her family member. Looks like all screams died with passing counts. It's not as fun as before, as she has stopped screaming, but that doesn't mean he was going to show mercy on her.

He looked at the watch. If he kept her out in the rain for long, then she would die, and he didn't want it. She can't die easily. He is going to make it painful for her.

"Should I bring her in?"

Spider came and stood behind Egon. Spider wants to touch Emerald just one time, even a little skin contact would do. He is not the only man to desire that, wicked eyes were always on her.

"She will die out there."

"Why do you care?"

Egon was stern with his words. His jaw clenched, and fists curled in his pockets.

Spider gulped nervously, the last thing he would do is piss Egon off.

"I didn't mean it like that. You won't want her dead that's why I asked."

He explained himself, yet there was rising fear in his chest. Egon is unpredictable. No one knows what will anger him.

"Have I ever let you touch her?"

Egon's sharp question made Spider anxious.

"No, Master!"

He answered quickly but quietly.

Egon turned around and looked at him with his stern grey eyes.

"Then what made you think that now you have the option to carry her inside?"

Spider stepped back from his place.

"Because I thought you wouldn't want to touch her, she is filthy..."

Egon's eyes were still boring holes in his right hand man.

"Take care of Angelina's dead body, you know where to put her skeleton."

Spider nodded and hurriedly left his presence. He has been working with Egon for years, yet he still can't read his mind or understand his decisions.

Egon stepped out in the rain, his boots splashed the puddle away as he made his way towards her. Her eyes were hardly open, and she saw his blurry figure hovering over her.

He waited for her eyes to close and then bent down to pick her up; she felt like a kid in his arms. He has picked her up before but this is the first time she felt so light.

Of course, she would; she hasn't eaten proper food in the basement. Partly because he didn't give her good food and partly because she is too egoistic to eat the food he has given to her.

He carried her inside, and the floor got dirty as mud dropped down from her body and his shoes.

Egon's maid followed him and opened the room door as he carried her inside.

She watched him keep her on the floor.

"I'll clean her?!"

She asked for permission, he gave her a single nod, and she rushed to get towels and clothes.

Egon stood there as she cleaned Emerald. The maid was shaking while cleaning her, and he was yet to decode whether she was shaking because Egon was there or because she was cleaning Emerald.

He ignored it and saw Emerald's bare body, which was unharmed. Exactly how he wanted.

Her body doesn't deserve the scar, her mind does, and he will deeply carve it into it.

His maid, Layla looked at him hesitantly. She is an old woman who has served his family for years, yet she is not courageous enough to talk in front of him.

She thought for a second and asked hesitantly.

"Master, if you don't mind can I suggest something?"

He nodded still looking at Emerald with blank eyes.

"I think you should call the doctor... Queen is___"

He frowned at her when she called her that.

"I mean, this girl is weak... I am sorry."

Her voice filled with fear.

He didn't answer, and Layla sighed in relief when he walked out without punishing her.

She looked at the girl and cleaned her neatly. She was worried that she would die. Her body was showing bones. Egon's lack of response told her that he wouldn't call the doctor, but surprisingly, the doctor knocked on the door after some time.

Layla raised her eyebrows, surprised. They are on an Island where doctors can't come within 10 minutes, but she was there, which showed that Egon had already informed her. She wasn't expecting him to call the doctor for Emerald, in fact, she wasn't expecting him to bring her into the castle, but again, it's Egon, and no one knows what goes on in his mind.

Layla helped the doctor.

"She is weak, give her some food if you want her to survive..."

She ordered.

"She doesn't eat."

Layla replied looking at Emerald's unconscious face.

"Loaf of bread is not a food, Layla... I meant proper food."

The doctor replied while putting her on glucose.

"She was getting proper food in the beginning, you know her... She made herself worthy of a loaf of bread only... Anyways, it's on master. I am just following his orders."

She sighed and covered the emerald with bedsheets.

The doctor got up from the floor and sighed.

"Will this ever end?"

Layla shook her head.

"No, not until she dies."

The doctor walked out and saw Egon standing outside, looking at the piles of skeletons. He was still drenched in rain.

"Master, she won't survive if you don't give her food."

She stood behind him.

Egon was still staring ahead. His jaw ticked as he opened his mouth to speak.

"Anything else?"

He turned towards her.

She shook her head.

"Just feed her, she will be fine."

Egon was still waiting for his answer, and she understood and answered.

"She will recover, your plan won't be affected because of her health."

Egon nodded in acknowledgement.

"I am her doctor since she is here, the basement was the worst punishment. What else do you have for her after bringing her out?"

Egon's lips curved into an evil smirk.

"She will name the thing I have for her."

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

Every stone, every hallway, every echo of that place carried the weight of what had been done to them—every wound they endured, every injustice that had carved itself into their story.
