Author's POV

Emerald stayed in bed as he entered the room and went directly to his closet. He ignored her!

She was still confused about what to do next, whether she should stay back or leave his room.

He exited the closet, and she watched him grab his things. She was staring at him blankly without realising it.

There was a time when he used to struggle to take his eyes off her, but now things were different. This was pricking her heart.

She shook her head to bring her back to her senses when he slammed the drawer shut.

Emerald decided to leave his room, somewhere scared that he won't let her but she wanted to go out. This unspoken silence was killing her.

She got out of bed and stumbled on her sore legs. Egon almost got up, but didn't when she handled herself.

She looked at him with sad eyes and he looked away.

She couldn't take the pain anymore and rushed out the door.

Egon tossed the file on the table and grabbed his head. He wanted to hug her, hold her closer, kiss her until she falls asleep, but it wasn't possible.

It was hard, he was again drowning towards her. The hate was fading which won't be good for him.

He has started caring for her again which shouldn't happen.

He has to be heartless to torture her or else he won't be able to do that.

Emerald's whole day was empty, she was tired of roaming in the castle like a lost soul. She had slept enough, she did everything which could keep her busy and now she had nothing.

Egon was ignoring her presence. They crossed paths many times in the castle but he refused to acknowledge her presence.

She couldn't understand what was going on in his mind.

Egon, on the other hand, was in his study, and Spider was standing in front of him.

"Is this the right information?"

Egon asked, looking at reports.

"I have cross-checked multiple times... This is true!"

Spider confirmed.

"Queen was in an orphanage till she turned five years old."

Egon scowled. She had never told him anything about this. Why would she live in an orphanage when she was a princess? He doesn't remember her family being in any major crisis to hide their children.

"Did you find her real name?"

"No, master!... I tried but her personal information is erased like someone doesn't want to reveal her real name..."

Spider informed.

"Or maybe she didn't have any name!"

Egon suggested.

"Orphans usually don't have names documented anywhere..."

"Possible but in her case it's different... She had a name, and the girl was problematic since childhood... We got to know that she murdered one housekeeping staff member when she was in the orphanage."

Egon scowled at Spider's words.

"A five-year-old girl killed a grown man? How?"

"A well-planned murder... His daily routine was observed and was used to kill him... The hint is, this girl was cunning since birth, it's not fed in her..."

Spider gathered the papers on the desk.

"Was Mad King her biological father?"

Egon stood by the window and saw Emerald taking a walk in the garden.

"Yes! I have DNA reports."

Spider sent him the mail.

Egon kept watching her, thinking why would she stay in an orphanage when she was a princess, why would the mad king allow his daughter to live in poverty? There must be a reason behind it.

Why would anyone hide their name?

Emerald doesn't keep mysteries, she opens up her secrets once she destroys things she wants to destroy.

There might be someone else who is doing this for her? He had a doubt. But who?

He has almost killed everyone, and if someone powerful is hiding, then he would have found out by now.

"A planned murder at the age of five"

He smirked.

"This girl was born a villain."

The reason for the murder was still unclear, and he would love to find out.

No matter how much he decides to stay away from her, something happens and he gets pulled towards her. Curiously evolves when it shouldn't.

"You did a wonderful job, Spider. Now, one more thing... Find out about the person on who's name she brought that mountain house... That person will have all the answers."

Emerald was sitting in the garden when Ruby entered the main gate. She was glowing, and Emerald kept admiring her little sister; she had grown up into a big woman.

This is what she wanted her to become, a successful and beautiful woman.

But she couldn't understand why she was here today, it wasn't safe for her. Egon can kill her anytime.

Ruby stopped when she saw Emerald. She wanted to talk to her, but she knew that Emerald would insult her, so she just stayed there until Egon came out.

"Good evening, King!"

Ruby greeted Egon.

Egon just nodded at her and ignored Emerald who was sitting there.

"Sit!"

Egon turned his back on Emerald as he sat down, and Ruby faced Emerald.

"I need some information from you."

Emerald frowned when he said that.

"What is her real name?"

Ruby looked at Emerald who rolled her eyes.

"I don't know, in fact, no one in the family knows her real name... When I started understanding things, people were already calling her queen."

"So you also don't know that she was in an orphanage till she turned five!"

Egon smirked watching Emerald's face go pale through Ruby's specs. He knew that he would hit the nail.

Ruby's eyes widened.

"What? No one told me about it."

Egon knew that she would be unaware of the things, he just wanted to trigger Emerald.

"How was your relationship with Bertha? I have heard that she was a good mother to all her children. Especially, Queen!"

Ruby started sweating, she knew that the world didn't know that Bertha was their stepmother. The mad king made everyone think that all were Bertha's children.

Ruby looked at Emerald, who was glaring at her, and she threateningly shook her head at Ruby. Warning her not to open her mouth. The death stare almost made Ruby cry.

She looked at Egon nervously, who had already seen Emerald threatening Ruby.

"You do not need to fear anyone, Ruby... Tell me!"

He assured.

Emerald's heart was hammering, knowing that if Ruby spills her family secrets, then Egon will unfold everything.

Now everything was dependent on Ruby, who was under Egon's protection.

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!

Author's POV Egon had abandoned the island castle long ago. Every stone, every hallway, every echo of that place carried the weight of what had been done to them—every wound they endured, every injustice that had carved itself into their story. Without Emerald beside him, the castle had become a living ghost, suffocating him with memories he wasn’t strong enough to face.So he had walked away.Yet today, he stood in front of it again. The familiar walls stared back at him like they recognised him—like they remembered the man who once ruled them. And standing there now, the past scraped against his heart like broken glass, burning through the thin layer of hope he was clinging to.Emerald wanted to talk. But she wanted to talk here.In front of the castle that had shaped everything between them.He didn’t understand what she had in mind, and that uncertainty was eating him alive. His hope had been dying since last night.
