67. Breaking Heart!

Author's POV

Emerald uncovered herself from the bedsheets and grinned evilly. Everyone was asleep, and she was ready to sneak out of the house.

Well, she is not really scared of her but Ruby scolds her whenever she asks for clubbing. She can fight with her, but she knows that Ruby is worried for her, and that's the only reason why she denies it. Emerald doesn't want to disrespect her love for her, so she just does it behind her back.

She looked at herself in the mirror, black dress, high heels and matte lipstick with wavy hair. She kissed herself in the mirror and sneaked out of the house.

Egon got a call from his men as soon as she stepped out of the house.

"Wrong move, my love."

He got up from his bed.

"Why is it so difficult for you to stay without making any trouble?"

He grabbed his car keys.

Emerald checked and was shocked to see that all clubs were closed today. She couldn't understand why.

"Wow, what a great night!"

She huffed and decided to go back home, but before that, she wanted to tease someone.

She leaned against her car at the side of the road on the bridge, looking at the river. She smiled naughtily and called Egon.

Egon raised his eyebrows when he saw her name on the screen. He was a few meters away from her. Watching her from the car.

He picked up the phone and placed it on his chest, leaning back in his seat lazily.

"Mannerless!"

He smiled while keeping his voice rough.

Emerald smiled naughtily.

"Learning manners from a mafia king would be fun... Do you coach?"

"What do you want now?"

He questioned, watching her hair dancing with the breeze.

"Now?"

She chuckled.

"I haven't even started taking things from you. Isn't it too soon to complain?"

He chuckled silently.

"I don't have a time!"

"I am alone at Joseph's bridge... If you want to spend some good time then you can join me."

She knows that he won't come but it was fun to tease him.

"You are not worth the time!"

He was enjoying triggering her.

"Still you are not disconnecting the phone."

She chuckled.

"Anyways, I am convinced that you are gay or else no man can ignore a girl like me."

"Gay?"

He sounded offended.

"Hmm!"

She suppressed her laugh.

"A man would never sit at home when a girl is waiting for him."

She turned around, and her smile dropped when she saw two men standing in front of her with a knife in their hands.

"Waiting for someone, beautiful?... We can help you with that."

She frowned and stepped back.

"Who the hell are you?"

"Relax, we are just having fun!"

The man tried to touch her, and she slapped his hand away.

He raised his hand to slap her but it didn't hit her. She opened her eyes and saw Egon twisting his hand so painfully that he couldn't even scream.

She stood there, shocked as he snapped their bones and tossed them in water, and came back like they weren't there in the first place.

Emerald couldn't stop her heart from fluttering. It was a realisation that it's not just one-sided, and what fuelled her confidence is that he came for her.

He slammed her against the car and grabbed her chin, making her look at him with excited eyes.

"Come again! Who's gay?"

He whispered darkly near her lips.

She couldn't stop admiring him, she was caged between his strong arms, covered in alluring scent and masculine energy. She was all over the place.

"I take my words back!"

She breathed out as he made her eat her words,

He smirked and patted her cheeks.

"Good girl, now go home!"

She looked disappointed when he stepped back.

"My heels are broken, I can't walk..."

"Not my problem!"

He started leaving and she stood there with a smile, knowing he was going to come back.

Egon tried to walk away, but he couldn't leave his queen alone there, knowing how stubborn she is. He turned back to her and her smile widened proudly. She gasped as he effortlessly tossed her on his shoulder and didn't even hold her. She was hanging on his shoulder without his arm holding her as he walked towards his car.

The moment she realised that she would never meet a man sexier than him.

He tossed her in the car and got in his seat. She fixed her dress as she made herself comfortable in the seat.

"Why were you here?"

She asked.

He turned the steering wheel, and she couldn't take her eyes off those sexy hands.

"I was passing by!"

She smirked.

"Sure!"

"Why are you so problematic?"

He asked annoyed.

"Can't you take the hint that I am not interested in you? A dignified woman should never act like this."

"If you don't care then why were you here?"

She questioned frustrated, she couldn't understand why he was playing so hard to get.

"It's obvious that you are attracted to me and still trying to avoid it. I don't get the reason... Is it that hard to approach a woman?"

"A woman like you?"

He snapped at her.

"Unprofessional and mannerless... Who doesn't know the meaning of boundaries?... I am sorry, but my type is different and far better than you... You don't meet my preferences."

She frowned at him as he talked to her rudely.

"What's wrong with you?"

He didn't want to but he had to break her heart.

"What will you take to leave me alone?"

He asked rudely.

"If you are that desperate then you should at least learn some usual tricks to climb a rich bed, because you____"

His head snapped aside as he received a tight slap.

"That's it! Thank you for telling me why this was a toxic attraction..."

She gritted hatefully.

"Thank you so much, KING!"

He sighed in defeat as she got out of the car and walked away after slamming his car door shut. He punched the steering wheel angrily.

"Fuck!"

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di
