Author's POV

"Why are you up?"

Egon frowned.

She was dressed in comfy pyjamas.

"Vendors can't stop calling me... I'll finish my work and then think about resting. About whom were you talking? Who can't leave you this time?"

"His cat!"

Arabella replied quickly because Egon looked blank.

"He has a pet cat and she always escapes from the house... This time, she is missing again, and he said once she comes back, she can't leave him again."

"Poor thing!"

Emerald chuckled.

"Lock her in your basement once she comes back."

Egon could feel his hair on his arms stand as she said that. He rubbed his face in guilt.

"No, this time I'll win her with love."

"Aww, how cute!"

She chuckled and walked towards the kitchen.

She called Ruby while rubbing her head.

"Hi Emerald, what's wrong. Paint will be delivered tonight."

Ruby informed.

"No, Ruby... Actually, my head is throbbing... I was having flashbacks... Can you give me that medicine which you used to feed me?"

Emerald poured a coffee for herself.

Ruby turned tense. It was the drug Egon had given her, and he had stopped supplying it.

"Emerald, actually... Okay, I'll send."

Ruby didn't know how to explain it to her, so she said yes and filled the empty bottle with vitamin tablets, then sent it to her.

Emerald focused on her work for the rest of the day and was going back to her room but Egon blocked her way on the stairs.

"Where are you going?"

He tried to touch her loose hair but she slapped his hand away.

"Don't think you have a chance just because I didn't stop you this morning."

She teased.

He smirked.

"I don't believe you... Prove it!"

He pulled her closer by the waist.

She couldn't stop her little smile.

"Not happening... I am not trying anything!"

"Because you fear that you will give in..."

He inhaled her divine scent.

"Shut up, Egon... I am tired, let me go!"

She chuckled while playfully pushing him back.

"Nahh, you are just scared to face me... Is the little girl embarrassed?"

He teased her more.

"You are delusional..."

She grabbed his jaw and gave it a cute shake.

"Mr King"

"Then prove it!"

He scooped her into his arms.

"Where?"

She asked curiously while holding him around the neck.

"Movie night!"

He carried her.

"But it's so late, do you think we can go and come back before morning?"

She asked confused.

"You are with a billionaire, my love. And billionaires don't go to the theatre for movies. They have a multiplex at home."

He smirked.

"Hmm, arrogant much?"

She mocked.

"You don't look like a man who is interested in movies."

"I watch my movies on a big screen."

He smirked mischievously.

"I didn't hear that."

She doesn't want to know what he watches. Probably some fucked up tortures.

She gasped excitedly when they entered the lavish room. Big screen and comfortable sofa chairs.

Snacks were already there and the interior was so dreamy. She loved it.

He placed her on the chair and sat beside her. She cocooned herself in a warm bedsheet as he played the movie.

She snuggled into him, too focused on the movie and enjoying it while Egon fed her popcorn.

"Wow, this experience is better than the theatre. You are so cool!"

"You liked it?"

He smiled.

"I loved it!"

She grinned.

They were enjoying their personal time until he realised that she had fallen asleep. He smiled and kissed her head.

His phone rang and he quickly answered.

"What's wrong?"

"King, we have a rat in the basement!"

His man informed.

"Need you here."

"Coming!"

He disconnected the call and looked at Emerald. He kissed her head again and got up, he tucked her in the bed sheet securely and walked out.

Emerald suddenly woke up and looked around, confused when she found herself alone in the room.

"Where is he?"

She yawned lazily. Thinking he must be outside to answer the call, she walked out to find him.

When she got out, she didn't find him and felt left out. How can he invite her to watch a movie and leave her alone without saying anything?

"Where is Egon?"

She asked the guard who was on duty.

"King went to the basement."

He informed. He usually doesn't let people go there, but for him, she is the queen who is equally dangerous as his King, so he didn't dare to stop her.

"Basement?"

Emerald frowned, thinking why he was in the basement so late. That too, during their good time.

She shouldn't have done that, but she went to the basement, her nose scrunched as she smelled rotten blood on the walls and the dust tasted on her tongue through the air. She dusted her hands after pushing the door open. She took a few steps and her heart screamed. She didn't realise that she didn't flinch at the scream like her body recognised the familiar feeling. She wasn't scared but curious.

She stopped by the door and watched Egon, who was asking something to the man who was battered in blood, and Egon wasn't showing any mercy to him.

"Where is the stolen material?"

Emerald has never seen him so evil.

She was silently watching him until a few of his words triggered something in her. She started having blurred flashbacks, and the walls of the basement started feeling familiar.

She placed her hand on her chest as breathing became difficult for her.

She couldn't understand what was happening; her body was in shock, and her mind was flooded with flashbacks.

"Egon!"

She tried to call him but it was a mere whisper.

Her voice was tangled in her confused flashbacks.

Within her blurry flashbacks, one strong flashback came out and she heard Egon's voice.

'I am destroying you, the way you destroyed me.'

She gasped for breath, she felt her mouth was closed, but in reality she had opened it so big that her jaw could break.

She couldn't hear her own voice but she screamed so hard that the basement walls echoed it and finally grabbed Egon's attention.

  • Ashes Between Us!   89. Survivors!

Author's POV Egon held her like a man who had been starving for years and finally had something warm in his arms again. His arms tightened around her lazy morning frame, almost too tightly, as if she might dissolve into thin air the second he loosened his grip.“To be honest,” his voice came out low, a confession dragged straight from the center of his chest, “I thought you would never accept me again.”His thumb brushed her waist in slow circles — a habit he developed long before, one that never truly died.“I still don’t feel deserving of you,” he admitted, the words cracking slightly, “even though I’m selfish enough to not let you go.”Emerald’s answer came not through words at first, but through the way she burrowed even closer, nuzzling into the warmth of him like she was trying to sink into his bones. There was no fear, no hesitation — just a quiet, hungry comfort she had missed far more than she had expected.“I was in the same dilemma,” she murmured. She tilted her head to me

  • Ashes Between Us!   88. Twisted Memories!

Author's POV Rafael had been too calm-too smug-when he asked her, "Are you ready to meet the real you?"There was something hidden behind that tone... something sharp, something calculated. Emerald should have protested. She should have pushed back. But at that moment, she was willing to walk into fire if it meant finding out who she really was.Rafael placed a naked sword on the table.A heavy, gleaming blade with a history soaked into its metal."Seen one of these before?" he asked, eyes gleaming with mischief. "Wanna touch?"Emerald's brows pulled together. She knew that question wasn't innocent. Nothing Rafael did was ever innocent. But the curiosity inside her was louder than the warning bells. She stepped forward and traced a finger along the blade-slowly, thoughtfully. She couldn't imagine the things Rafael had used this sword for.She wasn't sure she wanted to imagine."Ohh... who do we have here?"The voice behind her made her turn sharply.Another man stood there. Strikingl

  • Ashes Between Us!   87. The Love!

Author's POV The ocean was about to witness their reunion again.Egon’s lips crashed onto hers with a hunger that had been rotting in his chest for far too long. It wasn’t a kiss — it was a claim, a scream, a desperate pull of two halves that had been cut apart and finally slammed back together. Emerald clutched his shirt with trembling fingers, dragging him impossibly closer, like she wanted to pull him under her skin.He groaned into her mouth, a raw, broken sound that betrayed every night he spent missing her. His body pressed into hers as the waves curled around them, cool on their skin, nothing compared to the heat rising between them. Her hands cupped his jaw, fingers shaking as they memorised him again — the stubble, the sharp lines, the warmth that had once been her home.“Egon…” she whispered against his lips, breath trembling. He closed his eyes like her voice hurt him. “Say it again,” he murmured, forehead resting on hers. “I’ve forgotten how to breathe without it.”She di

  • Ashes Between Us!   86. She is back!
