Five

Elena's POV 

I wanted to protect myself by the way he was pushing me down the hall but I couldn't afford to lose my memory, not now.

"What does he want with me?" I mumbled under my breath. The other lady looked at me like I was the reason she was also taken away. I shrugged of the feeling, I should be used to it by now, since my mother died everyone looked at me like it was my fault.

"So unfortunate her mother died, don't go close to her she might bring bad luck," I overheard a classmate's parent say when I was fifteen.

Maybe I did bring bad luck, everything that happens around me has always been bad, now that I have the opportunity to become a great scientist like my dad I am being dragged away by a man who looks like the human version of Shrek.

Finally after what seemed like an eternity, we reached our supposed destination but the red haired lady's destination seemed to be different from mine as she was taken to the other side of the building.

"What the fuck is this place?" I asked out loud not minding the presence beside me.

The place looked like a stadium but the centre was filled with sand and not grass.

It looked like a fighting arena, it was huge.

I looked around and found the alpha siting at tge highest place with a smirk on his face, I wonder what he has in stock for me all I know is I'm not giving in.

The guard pushed me up the stairs leading to the alpha, as much as I didn't want to go, I had to. If I wanted to live.

"Welcome," he muttered with a smile on his face.

"What's this about?" I asked. "If this is about me becoming your mistress, my answer hasn't changed a bit."

"Well this is about you being my woman and you're wrong, your answer will," he said with a maniac smile on his face. "You see I have prepared all of this specially for you, why don't you have a seat and enjoy?"

I stared at him, hoping to find clues or anything that could give me an ideal of what he was thinking but I couldn't, his eys were emotionless, only showing what it wants you to see.

"What is this about?" I asked trying my best to cover the fear tooling imside of me.

"You'll find out soon enough," he replied and I knew that this wasn't going to be good.

Suddenly the podium as I would wish to call it began to vibrate as a large door opened.

The red headed girl they had taken with me was pushed out of the door and after that the door closed.

"What the fuck is happening?" I mumbled and he smiled. An evil smile, the smile that tells you that something is about to go wrong.

Suddenly the door at the open sides began to open and some mad creatures ran out of it.

They looked like the ones I had seen in the lab. I took off my eye glasses and rubbed my eyes to see if what I was seeing was truly real but no matter how hard I rubbed, it was.

"No I will ask you again, this time at the expense of the life of that young lady there, be my woman," he said his voice low and commanding.

"No," I spat. All this is just to scare me, he can't do anything.

"I think you should think about this carefully before making a decision," he suggested.

"To hell with you and your thoughts," I yelled. "Do whatever you want but I'm not making that little dream of yours come true."

"Hmmm, you're still fierce uhn, will you still be fierce when I do this," he snarled.

Immediately after his words, the limb of the red headed lady was thrown at me.

"Ahhh," I screamed, closing my eyes, refusing to see the gore but closing my eyes wasn't enough, I could hear her scream piercing through the air, I could hear the other creatures laughing and savouring her pain and in a way it's all my fault? "Stop doing this please," I pleaded.

But I don't think he'll listen to that.

"You don't need to beg me, the ball is in your court, you choose whether she lives or not," he said.

I raised my head to look at her, her eyes was pleading to me, begging for me to spare her life, but if I do, I will become tied to this beast on my own will and I'm not about to do that.

"No, I am not becoming your woman, you can do your worse," I said making up my mind.

"Well then, you made such a wrong choice," he said.

Like he was controlling them, they rip her into shreds.

I froze.

I stood still watching as her blood drip from their claws, I couldn't move no matter how I tried to.

It was as though my legs were glued to the ground, tears trickled down from my eyes as I watched, I wasn't close to her but I knew her, she was good at her job and just in seconds she has been ripped of life.

I drew in a deep shaking breath, he's a monster, they're all monster.

"What do you want with me?" I blurted out as I couldn't keep it in anymore.

"It's simple, be my mistress," he replied like it was a normal thing to kill someone else because a woman didn't want to be yours.

"Then why me? There were tons of scientists out there, I'm sure there are a lot of woman in your pack so why did you choose me?" I said breaking into tears 

"Because I want you, isn't that enough reason?" He said as he signalled to someone to take me away.

"When you come back in next time, expect something bigger, something grand," he said as he watched them drag me away.

They pulled me back to the cell.

"Hey, where's the other lady?" One of them asked.

I couldn't reply, what would I say? Would I tell them that they killed her because of me?

"Freak," she muttered as she crawled away from me.

They began to mumbled about how there's a probability that I killed her or I used her to save myself.

I didn't bother explaining, it would be of no use. I closed my eyes and tried to calm my self down but immediately I do so I see her, her face, her blood.

Godddd, either I died from their hands or I die of overthinking.

"Are you okay,?" Larry summoned the courage to ask.  

I blinked away the tears threatening to spill again and forced myself to sit up straighter. "Yeah," I mumbled, trying to sound convincing. "I’m fine, just tired."

 

Larry didn’t look convinced. He scooted closer, his voice low. "They took her, didn’t they?"

 

I looked away, biting the inside of my cheek. "I don’t know what happened."

 

He frowned. "They didn’t bring her back."

 

I met his eyes and quickly looked down again. "She was taken somewhere else," I said quietly. "Probably a different task. Maybe… maybe they needed her skills elsewhere."

 

He stared at me a beat too long, and I knew he didn’t believe me. Hell, I wouldn’t believe me either. But I couldn’t tell him. I couldn’t describe the blood. The sound of her bones breaking. The scream. Her eyes pleading. If I did, I’d relive it all over again, and this time, I might not come back from it.

 

"I hope she’s okay," he whispered.

 

I just nodded.

 

For a while, we sat in silence, the low murmur of the other prisoners barely audible. Most of them avoided looking at me, some turned away completely. The muttering hadn’t stopped since I returned, and I could still hear the occasional whisper.

 

"Probably traded her."

 

"She’s cursed."

 

"She’ll get us all killed."

 

The worst part was, I agreed with them.

 

"I didn’t ask for this," I muttered under my breath.

 

"What?" Larry asked gently.

 

I turned to him. "I didn’t ask for any of this. I just wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps. I wanted to prove I was more than some jinx. And now…" My throat tightened, but I swallowed it down. "Now I’m just a freak locked up with others who think I’m dangerous."

 

Larry shook his head. "You’re not dangerous. You’re scared. We all are, that doesn't make you wrong or cursed."

 

I gave a weak laugh. "Thanks for trying."

 

He leaned in closer, lowering his voice further. "Tell me the truth, Elena. What did they make you do?"

 

I hesitated. The images flashed again. Her scream. The way they tore her apart. The Alpha’s cold smile. "Nothing," I said finally. "They just wanted to talk. Intimidate me."

 

His jaw clenched. "It worked, didn’t it?"

 

I gave him a hollow smile. "Yeah. It did."

 

Before he could say more, the door to the holding area creaked open. The heavy thud of boots echoed against the stone walls. Everyone fell silent.

 

My heart dropped when I saw him enter.
