Chapter one

Friday March 1 2007

Dear diary,

This week was a rough one for me, but then again isn't every week? At school it's to be expected, but it was rough at work, too. I'm not sure why but all week long people- not just my co-workers but the costumers- have been so rude to me! There's nothing I can think of that I did wrong, but clearly it was something!

I've even made sure to be extra nice! But, nope, nothing! I can't quit this job, I need the money, guess I'll have to suck it up.

~8:40p.m.~

After finally finishing my homework, I lay on the couch and watch TV for awhile. Just as I started to doze off, I hear a wolf howling. It sounded like it was hurt… hurt and way to close to my house. The animal soft spot in me kicks in and I grab my phone. Just in case something were to happen, I have 911 on dial so I can hit the call button if it attacks me so they have a heads up that I'm getting attacked.

It's probably not a very good idea to do this, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Half of the things I do aren't a good idea, but I still do them.

Tree's and branches hit me as I keep looking for the hurt wolf. As I kept walking, I could hear wimpers from close by so I let my ears guide me and low and behold I found the wolf.

"Oh my God" I whisper, looking at the beautiful snow colored wolf laying on the ground, even in the dark I can see it's barely able to breathe. I've learned some things in my medical classes but I think it only works for humans.

I've got to help this wolf! I think to myself. "Ok, um, please don't bite me!" I whisper as I slowly walk to the barely alive wolf. Honestly, this wolf is to wounded to do any damage.

"It's ok, your- your gonna be ok, bud" I whisper, soothingly, gently touch it's side making it whimper. A tear falls from my face as I look for any sign of injury. Then I see it… the wolf got shot.

Obviously I wasn't gonna be able to take the wolf to the vet, so I took matters into my own hands. Using my flashlight to shine it on the bullet wound, I take a deep breath. Then take my fingers and try to find the bullet. When I do find it, I gently pull it out of the wolves skin. To keep it from bleeding anymore than it is already, I put my hand over the wound, keeping blood from coming out.

"It's ok, all better now" I say and pet him gently with my free hand. The wolf was still having a hard time breathing, but it was definitely easier. I could hear and feel it's breaths start to fall into a steady beat. This is definitely something I wouldn't forgot for awhile.

"Your ok, calm down" I say soothingly as his breaths start to pick up again. "Stay down, bud, you'll hurt yourself" When I take my hand off his side, he whimpers; making me feel really bad. But, when I look at my hand, it's covered in this wolves blood.

"I'm sorry, buddy, you'll be ok" A tear falls from my eye. "Your ok, your ok" I whisper, putting my hand back on his wound. Sobs make there way out and with my hand on his wound, I scoot over towards him. We lay next to each other, and he even lays his head on mine.

"Don't worry, buddy, I'll make sure your ok" I whisper.

I ended up falling asleep next to the wolf, and when I woke back up, the snowy wolf was still laying next to me.

"Hey, buddy" I say, yawning. He lifted his head up, licking my face, making me laugh. "Well, your definitely feeling better!" I say, happily.

When I get my hand off the wolves wound, my hand was covered back and front with the wolves blood. It was actually sticky, he whimpered in pain when I took my hand off because his fur and blood were stuck to my hand.

"Gross" I whisper. "You want me to get you cleaned up?" I ask and he just looks at me. "Hm? You want me to clean that wound up? Yeah? Come on" I say, excitedly. We walk to my house so I can get some cleaning supplies to clean off snowy. Yeah that's his name… SNOWY!

"Alright, Snowy!" I say with a smile, he licks my face and I pet his fur. "Ok, this might sting a little" I put a washcloth in a bucket of water, then slowly and carefully put it on Snowy's wound. He seemed fine so far, just wait until the soap.

Which is what it's time for, the soap. I put the washcloth in the water again, got it soapy and gently touch his wound making him whimper big time. It made me so sad to hear, but it needed to be done, he'll get an infection if it doesn't.

"Sh, it's almost over, Snowy it's almost over" I soothingly say. After a few more seconds, I dump that out and go get another washcloth and dipped it into another bucket of clean water. "Your gonna feel better, I promise just let me get the soap off" Snowy finally stops and lets me get the soap off.

He must've really been hurting because he laid down and didn't get back up for the rest of the evening. So he wouldn't get lonely, I stayed out there with him. We had a pretty good time together, it was good to finally have a friend.

"It's good to have a friend, Snowy" His head lifted up from the ground as he looked at me. "I know right? Who wouldn't wanna be friends with me? Lots of people" He got up and walked over to me, letting me pet him.

"Alright, what am I supposed to feed you?" I ask after kissing his head. "Why am I asking you? You can't answer me?" I laugh. After awhile I get some stuff together and throw it a bowl… then lay it on the ground. He sniffs it and then looks at me, making me laugh.

"I take it that means you don't want it?" I laugh.
