KAYLA'S POV.

I'm not sure what it was in Gabriel's eyes, but I knew he was slowly losing it. No, his calm smile didn't fool me. There was something about the way he whispered 'Maybe', to uncle Richard, that screamed 'Audacious'!!

The place suddenly grew tense, and Richard's face contorted in anger.

"If you are not willing to stay, then get out." He spat, making Gabriel visibly grind his teeth.

No, this wasn't good. I honestly thought Richard was being quite provocative. Subconsciously, I pulled my hand out of Jeffery's deceitful hold, carried away by the conflict happening before us all.

He always tried to portray to the rest of the family, how happy and in love we both were, when reverse was the case.

"Enough of that, Richard." Grandpa Zach suddenly said, releasing a low sigh. His forehead creased into folds, and he shook his head disapprovingly at Richard.

Finally, his gaze settled on Gabriel and the next words tumbled out of his lips.

KAYLA'S POV Silence fell, as Beulah and Lisa shared shocked glances between themselves. "I hope..... this is a joke." Lisa muttered, looking at me. I said nothing as I eventually looked away, unable to hold her gaze anymore. "Oh God." She whispered, her eyes widening in disbelief. "It is true!" She yelled, making me bite my lips in embarrassment. "I don't want to believe it." Beulah shook her head in negation. "How?! Why?!""Lower your voices please." I begged."We should lower our voices?! That is what you can think of, right now?" Beulah released a maniacal laughter, scaring me at some point."Tell us everything, Kayla. From the beginning." Lisa demanded, not a single trace of amusement in her tone. She looked so angry, and it scared me all the more. My friends could be quite overprotective towards me, and that was part of the reasons I had decided to not let them have an idea of what was really going on.Lisa and Beulah were going to drag the matter, and I couldn't risk my paren

KAYLA'S POV.Lunch with my Dad today, had been so refreshing. I don't remember when last I felt so happy and contented. We had talked about a lot of things, and I had realized how much I had missed out on the lives of my parents, these past two years. How did I even find myself living this life?!Dad and I stayed together until late in the night, before we eventually parted ways and headed home. Most importantly, I was glad I had been able to speak with him about my decision to pick up my artistic career again. He had been completely supportive, and have given me just the right aid I needed. As I stepped in through the doors of our house, my eyes fell on Jeffery's figure, sitting on one of the couches as he scrolled through his phone. There was no sign of Joana around.Walking past him, I headed for the staircase. I had ascended halfway, when he angrily called my name."Kayla!"Releasing a tired sigh, I slowly turned towards him."What?""Where are you coming from, by this time of

KAYLA'S POV.I looked at the beautiful piece before me, and a low sigh escaped my lips. The intricate spiral of my brush strokes had tears of delight brimming up my eyes. I never thought this could be possible again.Oh God......I had gotten back my mojo!!"Oh Goooddddd....." I sighed, face palming myself in disbelief. This was the first piece I had made in two years now. I never thought I was going to be able to draw or paint again.I had always been such a good artist, before Jeffery and I got married. Infact, everyone knew I had the plans to get professional after our wedding. But then, after all that happened with Jeffrey and Joana on the night of our wedding, I had slipped into depression for some time. For weeks, I stayed home, copped up in my room all day, everyday. But no one suspected anything was off, because they all assumed Jeffery and I were busy on our honeymoon, of course. When I finally came to terms with the reality of things, I willed myself to stand up and go on wi

GABRIEL'S POV."So this is what you have been up to in New York?" I questioned a shocked Enzo, releasing a low chuckle."What the fuck, man! Don't you knock?" He glared, standing up and scampering all around, looking for something to cover his nakedness. I watched in a mix of amusement and disbelief, as the blonde lady leisurely hopped down the bed after him, taking her time to pick up the tiny pieces of her clothing, scattered all over the place. At some point, she bent in front of me and softly jiggled her.....Daammnnn.... that soft ass."Seriously Gabriel?" Enzo glared at me as he threw on a shirt on top of the loose joggers he had worn."What?" I shrugged, a sheepish smile on my face. "Aliya, get out." He ordered sharply."Easy there, with your words Tiger. I'm still a lady, regardless of how sore you've fucked me."Enzo looked at her in disbelief, as he released a tired sigh. "Just leave. Please.""My pay?" She asked, raising a brow in question. "You would receive it within t

GABRIEL'S POV.As I ran on the treadmill, I received a call and tapped on my airpods to answer it."Hey, man." Enzo. "Brother." I replied, panting roughly as my pace increased."At the gym?""Yup!""So when are you planning to give me the damn surprise you mentioned?!" He asked, sounding quite aggressive. That made me laugh out so loudly. Enzo was literally a baby in the body of an alpha male."Sooner than you think."I already made plans to head for Enzo's place, after my evening workout. But I wasn't going to let him know."Whatever." He hissed. "I have already informed the receptionist about you. Just incase you show up on a day I'm not in, introduce yourself to her.""Oh? Okay.""How was breakfast at your father's?" He asked, and my mind traveled back to this morning. "All shades of horrible." I muttered. I remembered how I had literally flown out of my seat, in a bid to rescue Kayla when she had tripped down the stairs. I only hoped no one had read so much into my excessive s

KAYLA'S POV"I have no plans of partaking in anything that belongs to you." Gabriel said.Oh, wow.Things were getting more heated than expected. Did Gabriel just outrightly reject grandpa's invitation to join the Pearson Group?"Gabriel....." Jeffery began, grinding his teeth in obvious annoyance. "I think you should watch the way you.....""You have no right, thinking anything of me." Gabriel sharply cut him off, a glare on his face.I looked to my side to see an identical glare on Jeffery's face. Knowing how petty he could be, he wouldn't want to let Gabriel have the last say. He was going to speak back, and Gabriel would most likely respond as well. "I have every right, because I oversea two companies under the Pearson Group! It is every business of mine.""Gabriel, you're very much a part of this family, so why not? You should partake in what belongs to me. You're my son." Grandpa said, ignoring Jeffery's banter."Wow." Gabriel released a low chuckle. "It's funny. Because for ye

GABRIEL'S POV.When he suddenly asked if I had someone in my life, I initially thought he was pushing his luck far more than he was supposed to. Left to me, he had no right prying into my personal matters. It also had me wondering why Aunt Bea had told him something so personal about me.I was almost about to tell him he didn't have any right enquiring such information from me, but I doused the urge the moment I realized that particular topic had stolen her attention. Kayla.A slightly vengeful side of me, felt petty enough to try and make her jealous. She probably wouldn't be, knowing she was clearly very much in love with Jeffery. They had acted all lovey dovey throughout our time out today, and it got me thinking. Was it really real between them? Did he know I had disvirgined his wife just some days back? Why had he not touched her intimately for years?! The same questions I have continuously asked myself these past few days."Nicola." I found myself correcting my father, after

GABRIEL'S POV. I released a tired sigh the moment we got back to the manor. We had spent just an hour at the cemetry, and were just returning. But somehow, I felt drained. As soon as I alighted my car, my gaze fell on Kayla and Jeffery, whose hands were intertwined. They had actually been intertwined since we left for the cemetery. "Come here." Jeffery pulled her closer by the waist, cleaning invisible dirt off her face. "Thank you." She muttered, locking eyes with me in that moment. Her gaze held some emotions I couldn't quite place. I willed myself to look away, reminding myself that I had ended whatever mistake had occurred between us. "Come on in, you love birds. Breakfast has been served." Father called their attention, as I walked ahead of them, into the manor. I hated how irritated I felt in that moment. It showed that I cared. I truly wanted to give no fucks. I started ascending the staircase, when my father's voice made me halt my steps. "Where are you goi
