Victor POV
After dropping Pepper off at their office building, I did not leave right away.
I waited for her to disappear inside the building with Shan.
When I could no longer see her, I began to press the brake pedal and turned the car to drive mode to let it move forward.
My phone rang.
I answered Tony Spence, our company lawyer, while driving through the busy streets of New York.
“What’s up, Spence?”
“Mr Gunner. There has been a report from one of our men that your father is holding another investors’ meeting without you and Ms. Ferguson in it.”
“
Pepper POVThe boys stood on their seats and began to chant.“Mommy is the boss!”“Mommy is the boss!”I tried to shush them because they were already attracting attention from other diners, but Victor did not seem to mind.He seemed to encourage the two boys’ naughtiness and was grinning from ear to ear.“Monmy is the boss!” He repeated. It seemed to encourage the two boys more.To my exasperation, Asher gyrated his hips. Aaron, on the other hand, jumped on his seat.He beckoned for Thea to join them when he gestured with his hands, and our daughter rose to her feet and was now standing on her seat, ready to take a leap.“Althea!” I cried, but I was too late.Althea was already on the floor, jumping and clapping her hands.“Mommy is the boss!”“Yay!”I wanted to bury my face with the palms of my hands in embarrassment, but Victor was quick to intercept. He grabbed my hand and twirled me on the floor.“Victor!” I cried out loud.My face was flushed, and I could feel the heat emanating
Pepper POVThe booth that the children chose gave us a wide view of the city outside. While Victor was busy answering the children’s query, I was busy looking out the glass walls.“You don’t look happy,” Victor commented, distracting me from my view.I shook my head and pointed to our children before I felt Victor’s hand searching for mine. When he found it, he clasped our hands together and squeezed.“What I said about Colter is the truth. It’s just that he can’t let on outside that I was his brother. The truth will cause quite a stir.”I nodded now that I understood the whole thing.Until now, Victor has been protecting his family from possible scandal.“It’s about the business, too. If this blows out of proportion, Gunner Holdings will be compromised. I am trying to mitigate the impact on the business.” He explained. This time, I got the whole picture and agreed with him. When our orders arrived, our attention was momentarily diverted as Victor and I began to distribute the food t
Pepper POVI looked pointedly at Althea and told her, “You can’t have everything they have. You will be gorged and you won’t have free space in your tummy for dinner later.” I cautioned.Althea pouted.“But…” She wanted to argue, but I only looked blankly at her.Victor easily remedied the situation and assured her that she could still enjoy the food she wanted.“We will order takeout for dinner. Would that be alright, children?” His question encompassed the other three, and they all nodded simultaneously.“Okay!” Althea raised her fist in the air before she and Shelly giggled. They joined hands and ran toward the building, followed by the two boys. Victor and I brought the rear.He took my hand and squeezed it.I squeezed his back, and we fell into step beside each other. At the counter, the children’s chatter filled our ears while they tried to reach the counter with their outstretched hands. The girls pointed at the menu board, talking in hushed tones before giggling like they had
Pepper POV"You are sulking," I commented when I began to feel the silence stretching between us.It also did not help that he was gripping the steering wheel so hard, making his knuckles white.I looked outside the car and noted that the traffic was light, and Victor, despite his annoyance, drove slowly in deference to his little passengers. When I turned around in his direction, he caught me by surprise when he turned his head around when the van stopped at a red light."I'm not sulking. I'm pissed," he declared.I thought that was the end of it until he hissed his frustrations."Why did you allow my children to call other men 'Daddy'? I am their only father." He said in reproach. It seemed to me that he was making a big deal of it, and I found it amusing.I wanted to tease him, so I asked."Should I tell them to call you Father then?"Victor sputtered, and my brows arched up."I'm not a priest!" he shot back."But you said..." I clamped my lips in amusement, refusing to go on becau
Pepper POVSpell awkward. That’s what happened after Victor made the grand entrance that culminated in kissing me, and Jeremy reminded us of his presence with a throat clearing. My face flamed at the realization that I got too carried away by the brazen way Victor claimed me.Jeremy chuckled. “You may be the triplets’ father, but you are not her husband. I checked, and as of this moment, Pepper remains unattached, which means you are the ex.” Jeremy’s sassy reply did not sit well with Victor.I could feel the tension in his body when he crossed his arms over his chest and stared pointedly at Jeremy.I tugged on his sleeves to remind him that Jeremy is my guest, but Victor wouldn’t back down.He engaged Victor in a staring contest that I was forced to break up by clapping my hand to get their attention.“Jeremy will attend the auction.” I tried to nervously smooth the tension cloaking us, but the two men won’t cooperate.Victor shrugged. “I hope he is a good sport because I am sure he
Pepper POVAfter leaving the conference room, I went straight back to my office and was surprised to find a visitor.I was not expecting him today, but I had kind of expected that he would show up one of these days, given that the auction is set to happen in two days.Jeremy Quinn was included in the guest list that my team prepared. I believed he had already received his invitation, which explains his presence in my office.“Jeremy! What a nice surprise!” I crossed the distance between us, all smiles. I felt like I was gliding when he rose from the visitor’s lounge chair outside my office to meet me.He met me halfway and closed the distance between us by enfolding me in a tight embrace.“Pepper. It has been a while.”I nodded.“Yes. How was Hollywood?” I asked. He grinned. “Still the same.”Jeremy pulled away a little and scanned me from head to foot. His blue eyes ran approvingly over my office attire, a button-down beige satin shirt and a black A-line skirt with a blazer. I paired
