Declan sat in the middle of an important board meeting, listening to his executives discuss quarterly profits. His mind, however, kept drifting back to Seraphina. The first visitation had left a bitter taste in his mouth, but he refused to give up.

His phone vibrated on the table. He glanced at it quickly and saw Octavia’s name. His heart jumped. He picked it up and read the message.

“Pick up Seraphina from school today. My shift for today is tight. Don’t mess it up.”
