-Aurelia-

“You have such beautiful eyes.”

My chest did that weird thing again… my heart pace quickened and my stomach felt weird. It was as if birds were taking flight.

It has been hours since I bolted from Alpha King Alaric's room and yet what happened in his chambers hasn't left my head.

He is always trying to find my gaze and even though I try to look away, I always end up staring at him and when I do, I see this longing in his eyes, this gentleness and maybe loneliness?

And this confuses me so much … The Alpha King of the west is a monster… shouldn't monsters be fierce, wicked and mean?

Why does it seem he does the opposite of what Uncle taught me about him? What I have believed of him seems not to be so.

What the hell is going on?

When his strong and coarse palm was placed against mine, for a moment I stopped thinking and all I could do was feel the warmth of his palm, its roughness.

Shouldn't I have been repulsed?

My mind recalled when he reached for my face and trailed his hand over and over them… I couldn't move, I stood rooted to the ground and just stared at him.

And what was it he said again?

“Your eyes have the calmness and fierceness of a storm.”

My lips curled up in a smile but I caught myself just in time, “Aurelia!” I scolded myself out loud, wiping off the smile.

I shook my head, trying to stop the thought of him but I couldn't just but remember those eyes… the greenest there is… it was as I was staring at a beautiful well nourished garden.

And again my chest did that weird thing…. It was pounding.

At first it had started subtly but now it seems to be out of control, I pressed my hands to my chest, I trailed the other one to my stomach which was acting weirdly again.

This has to be the normal feeling a person has when they are on a revenge mission right?

Because….

This wasn't the first time I had a male wolf hold my gaze.

This wasn't the first time I had a male wolf hold my hands.

This wasn't the first time a person touched my face and called them beautiful.

As his hand came in contact with my face, I was supposed to feel the hate and repulsion I had always felt… but I… i… haven't felt any of those.

‘You don't hate him anymore.’ A subtle thought whispered within me, I jerked up to my feet.

“I do!” I exclaimed immediately pushing the stupid thoughts out of my head.

I nodded to myself, “Yes, I do. I mean, I ran off and that means I couldn't just stand that monster. Yes!”

Oddly enough, I didn't even seem to sound convincing enough even to myself.

The door was pushed open and Azura entered, her bags in her hands, Sorya too had her bags, she closed the door behind her.

Azura's eyes went wide with surprise, “Oh moon! This place is so beautiful and big.” She dropped her bags and began moving around the room, checking one corner and another.

Sorya looked around too with surprise, “Wow! And this is your room from now on?”

I nodded, a big smile on my face, “Yes but more like our room from now on.”

Surprised and shocked, would never be able to describe what I felt when Mistress Donna brought me up to this block. I had thought she wanted me to clean one of the rooms.

But then she had given me a disgusted glance over, pushed a key in my hand and gestured me into this room, saying it was mine as the Healer had instructed.

I couldn’t believe my ears, the room came with a big bed, furnished and beautiful looking, this block was meant for Mistresses and other heads of units, it was never meant for a slave like me.

She asked if I had anything to request for and immediately I requested for a bunk bed, and pleaded to have Azura and Sorya, I formed a lie to tell her but instead she didn't seem to care because she didn't ask me why.

And in under a few hours, the room was rearranged with what I requested for.

Now, I don't have to sleep on the ground, we have a room to ourselves to plan, we don't have to be too cautious now, and even sneaking out was easy because my window gave me such access.

My Queen!” Aurelia whispered in excitement, “This is beautiful!”

She pulled me into a hug, “Thank you for requesting we stay with you. I and Sorya would have felt lonely without you.”

Sorya also stood to her feet and joined in the hug, “We are so free from Sonia’s bully. Ah! She makes me want to forget we are on a mission here and beat the daylight out of her.” She hissed and I and Azura burst into laughter.

We disengaged and sat down.

I cleared my throat, “I think the trust is working.”

Sorya and Azura sat up immediately.

“On Beta Ilan?” Sorya asked.

I shook my head, and dropping my voice into a whisper, I said “No, even better, on the Alpha King.”

Both of their eyes widened in surprise, “What?”

I pulled out from under my bed the parcel the Alpha King had given me, “He gifted me this as a reward for putting off the rogues and when Beta Ilan instructed me to drink the tea before I served him, he wasn't happy with it.”

Their eyes widened all the more. Azura took the parcel from me and opened it. She and Sorya began to check the veils one after the other.

“These are quality and expensive fabrics.” Sorya commented as she took one up, inspecting it.

Azura did the same, “They are way better than the cloth we made into a veil. These are breathable, see, they even have ropes made into them for firm and easy tieing.” She showed us the ropes.

“My Queen, this …. It's amazing.” Sorya nodded, a big smile pulled up her face, “This is a very good step. We are heading somewhere.”

Azura hummed in agreement.

I took one of the veils, I went to the big mirror that came with the room, for a minute I stared at my reflection and sighed deeply.

Never have I ever thought while growing up, that I would one day be veiled in order to kill.

Slowly I pulled off my veil, I stepped closer and stared at myself, I turned to my side and I was greeted with my scar that started from the side of my forehead to my chin, I turned the other side, it was the same.

They were the results of my mother's claws that had pierced my face when she didn't want me to see the sword that pierced her.

My eyes stung, I didn't blink, I just kept staring.

I stared at my neck, another scar stared back at me, while I ran, I had also fought off some wolves that caught up with me, I was almost overpowered but I couldn't let my mother's sacrifice go to waste…. My father's sacrifice and that of my unborn sibling.

A lone tear ran down my cheeks and then my tears started pouring.

I felt arms around me, both Sorya and Azura on my sides, they engulfed me in a hug and we all cried.

And then it came… full force…

The repulsion I thought I had lost… the hate I thought walked away.. it came..

“Alaric Leontius Valerian will have a taste of what he made my family, my people, my kingdom pass through.” I groaned through gritted teeth.

-Alaric- My gaze held hers, she stared back at me in confusion.“You need to let those scratches heal properly, Your Majesty, and—”I rose to my feet and walked away from her, I took my seat on the bed that had been made for her.“Did I not order that you should be here?” My voice came out sharper than I intended. “Did I not order that I don't want this?”I could feel annoyance boil in me, and it had nothing to do with her, no, never… by the stars! -Alaric- Flashback“Weakness,” My father’s voice boomed across the room. He stared straight into my eyes, and once again, I was reminded of who I took after. The colour of my eyes was the only thing I had inherited from him. “Has no place in leadership, Alaric.”His voice was cold and firm, sending a familiar chill down my spine.“Yes, Father.” I nodded, averting my gaze from his, because his stern gaze reminded me how weak I was.He let out a deep, disappointed sigh. “Yes? Yes?! You are weak, Alaric!”My body trembled as I watched my father rise from his throne. Even my wolf whimpered in fear. The moment his sandals came into view, I took a few steps backwards. And that was my mistake.Almost immediately, his palm collided with my cheek, the sharp sting followed by another slap against the other.“You cannot be weak, not on my watch!”*I fell to my knees before my furious father.“You hesitated!” he roared. My throat tightened. “I have sinned, Father, and I deserve to be punished.”

-Aurelia- I wanted to scream.I wanted to punch something or maybe someone, just to let all the anger that rose in me out but I couldn't, not when I was standing before Beta Ilan and the Healer.Instead, under my veil I took a quiet breath in and out and tried to steady my raging nerves. Now it seems I was back to zero because why the fucking hell would that bastard Alpha King get upset and order everyone out?!Just fucking why?!I stared at the Beta whose lips were spotting a cut from the punch but one thing that made me curious was that he didn't flinch, he acted as if nothing happened.“You don't have to look that way,” Beta Ilan said, bringing me out of my thoughts, I stared at him to see he was smiling, just a little smile, “He is just upset. Nothing serious.”Well…. Tell that to the cut on your lips…. I almost said but instead I nodded.Elder Sage sighed deeply, “But what are we going to do now? What's the next solution? What do we do?” He asked as he stared from me to the Beta

-Aurelia- “Oh.” I muttered quietly as realization dawned on me.I stared at the male domestic helpers as they transformed one of the corners of the Alpha King's chamber to a miniature room. They were setting up a small bedframe, a bed, a stool and a table where I would use for making the herbs.Slowly, I turned to Elder Sage and Beta Ilan. “This was what you meant by sleeping with the Alpha King?”Well… I guess I thought wrong because this wasn't what I had interpreted their words to mean at all. Healer smiled and nodded, “Yes, Child. And the goddess blesses you for helping out.”Beta Ilan gave a slight nod as he turned away, instructing the helpersAt first, relief washed over me… it was good news because I wouldn't have to think everyday about that monster touching me.His bloodied hands, the very one that shortens lives, that turns families miserable. The thought of those hands on me definitely makes my skin crawl. I would have hated myself forever even after I took him down.Th

-Alaric-My empty eyes stared back at me from the mirror. What was I thinking? That I would be happy? Or that I had escaped who I really was?“Such a fool you are, Alaric.”My stiff lips curved into what was supposed to be a smile but it looked more distraught.I lowered my gaze to my chest, where my newly acquired injuries stared back at me. Bloodied scratches from my own claws.I was grateful to the Moon Goddess that my healing sword injury hadn't been touched.I looked away from the mirror and stared at both my arms, only to be greeted by deep scratches.I had inflicted every single one of them on myself. What was I thinking? That my torment had stopped? That I could be happy?‘But you were happy these past few days.’ A quiet voice spoke within me.I sighed deeply. It was just another part of my torment. Still, I was grateful for it. At least the Moon Goddess cared enough to let me have a little taste of freedom, of happiness, and... her.My lips curled into a smile as I remembered

–Aurelia-“What?!” Both Azura and Sorya yelled with shock in their eyes, their voices echoed in the night making some sleeping bats take flight.I sighed, “My same reaction when the Healer and the Beta told me.”I had screamed so loud that the Healer jumped, he was quite startled even Beta Ilan was too.At first I thought I heard wrong or maybe they were joking but why would I be summoned at around midnight to be joked with and the seriousness on their faces told me otherwise.“You are meant to be his caregiver, not his toy!” Azura whispered, under the brightness of the moon, and with the help of two lanterns, I could see a deep frown on her face, “I don't like where this is going, my queen.”Sorya nodded, “I took, my queen. This is getting out of hand. How would they request you sleep with the Alpha King and from what you have said, it seems they just shipped you off as his?” She hissed in displeasure.“Maybe, you should have just poisoned the monster.” Azura said, “If he was dead,
