"Stop it mum, She's not who you think she is ." Alex's voice grated out tensely through the room. I was puzzled by the statement but even more so with the horror reflected in Margaux's eyes at the sight of my necklace. Alexander had simultaneously gone very tense beside me. Margaux tore her gaze from the necklace and turned to him, eyes wide. "Are you sure?" "Please stop it. I looked into her records." I watched her slowly turn her attention back to me , survey my whole body from crown to tip and then - Nothing. Her expression dismissed me abruptly. She turned her full attention back to her son like I didn't exist. "Alex, Son." She greeted him, her voice cool and crisp .She offered him a cheeky and then another . Alexander didn't kiss it. Just stood there staring around. Margaux rolled her eyes and clasped both hands in front of her. "Come on , Alexander. It's high time you stopped this touch phobia of yours. Greet your mum properly, darling." Alexander hesitated. His face flickering with a flurry of emotions before he moved slowly, raised his hands to place on her shoulder - And they landed lightly on my shoulders instead . I shot him a confounded glance. What was going on here ? I heard conglomerate families were weird but this was the height of it to me. "Mum,this is Chiara DeLuca," Alex introduced tonelessly "my mother , Margaux Carrington." Margaux finally spanned her attention to accommodate,I ,the lowly mortal. She took in every detail;my hair , face, my dress and then her eyes lingered again on my necklace. I felt compelled to explain. "The necklace was my mother's. Incase you were wondering.Mum gave it to me as soon as she gave birth to me." Her eyes narrowed , sliding a brief glance toward Alex.He gave a small indifferent shrug. She began stalking towards me.I fought to keep my ground. 'Chiara DeLuca huh?I'm guessing Italian?" I nodded, swallowing. Shereached out to run a cold finger through a wisp of my hair. " But you don't look Italian.Your hair , colouring -" I hastened to clarify, "Well actually I'm not my parent's biological child. My parents had trouble conceiving so they did an IVF -with a donated embryo." The hawk -quality drained from her eyes and I let out a deep breath after holding it for so long. Not that they had any right to my biological information but she had drawn it from me with just a stare. She managed a smirk at me and I was struck by how much of a resemblance she had with her son. " A pleasure, Ms. DeLuca. Though I would say your dramatic entry into our family was pretty.... rapid , don't you think?" I looped my arm through Alex's sharply and forced what I thought was a lovey dovey smile . "Well , I never thought I'd be so madly in love with someone" I said brightly. Margaux scoffed " Of course " Without further ado, she led us into the dining room . Alex immediately withdrew his arm from mine. "Don't do that again." I stared up at him , incensed. "Excuse me ?You practically tossed me to the wolves while your mother grilled me alive." His jaw clenched, hands curling into fists .Then he yanked at his tie and flung it aside -it landed perfectly on a doorknob. " And what did I say about touching me without permission?" He growled out.His voice hd gone so low it sounded deadly. My mouth hung open.I had completely forgotten. "I'm sorr-" He cut me off by walking faster to the dining table. That was when I noticed another presence in the room. A female one with a sceptical and bored look about her as she watched us approach the table - Scratch that ,she watched ME approach the table- She was already seated and helping herself to a plate of macarons. "Amelia?" Alexander intoned threateningly and I lost a heartbeat in astonishment. This was Amelia Carrington. The world's number 1 top fashion model .The stuff of every teenager's dream. "Yes?" She cooed, batting her lashes at him.She stood and glided towards him.She was an epitome of earthly perfection.Every move of hers was liquid elegance. I was so lost in my worship I almost didn't hear Alex snap at his mother. "What's this about, mother?Alex demanded, turning sharply to Margaux. She gave a careless shrug " What could I say? ,she wanted to meet your new fiancee." " Hi..I'm Amelia." Amelia sang , flashing me a dazzling smile as she extended her hand and shook my hand ,her grey eyes so vivid in their beauty ,accessed me thoroughly. I shook it politely " Yeah I Know ..I'm-" " -oh don't bother-" she interrupted smoothly "I already know all I care about you." Her tone was airy but dismissive and before I could process that sting ,she sauntered back to Alex . Leaning close, she whispered something in his ear . His eyebrows puckered in fury at first ,then arched in amusement. What I wouldn't give to know what she was saying. From their relationship, I deduced she was someone close to Alex and from her body language -she was being territorial about Alexander- Oh my God, I clasped a hand on my chest in fright while I watched her raise a slender wrist and stroke his cheek out of the blue. I stared at Alex for any signs of annoyance . Alexander Carrington was laughing.~ ChiaraThe house was quieter once Alexander dragged me from the living room. But my heartbeat wouldn’t calm.Olivia’s words kept echoing: “Some doors shouldn’t be opened… unless you’re ready for the truth.”I glanced at Alexander. His jaw was tight, eyes stormy. Every muscle in his body screamed “stay away from that room.”But curiosity gnawed at me.“Alex,” I whispered, tugging his sleeve. “Which room was she talking about?”He stopped, his hand tightening around mine like steel.“Chiara… forget it,” he hissed.I shook my head. “No. I have to know. She didn’t even say east wing for nothing.”His stare cut through me.“Chiara, you don’t understand. Some truths… you don’t want to touch them. Not yet. Not ever.”I swallowed. “I do want to understand. I can’t just… not know.”He turned abruptly, leading me toward the library. His body was a wall between me and the east wing.Every step screamed tension, every line of his shoulders radiated danger.“Alex… why are you so tense? You’ve be
~ ChiaraThirty minutes later, I was in a simple but elegant blouse and wide-leg pants that screamed “I’m trying to impress someone I didn’t plan to impress.” The mansion’s living room looked different—sunlit, airy, almost soft—because sitting on the pristine couch was a woman who radiated pure, disarming warmth. She wore white. A white dress, white shawl, pearls, hair in a low chignon streaked with silver. She looked like the kind of woman who smelled like lavender and baked cookies on weekends. She stood the second she saw me. “Oh sweetheart,” she breathed, hands opening wide in welcome, “you must be Chiara.” I blinked. Hard. Sweetheart? She crossed the room with surprising swiftness and took both my hands before I could decide whether to step forward or step back. “Oh my goodness, you’re even more beautiful than the tabloids made you out to be,” she said, squeezing gently. “No wonder Alexander has such trouble letting you out of his sight.” Behind me, Alexander’s inhale
Jessica Just to make sure Fiona was out of it for the rest of the morning until I left for work, I drugged her beer. I wasn’t letting her ruin this shift for me—not after working so hard throughout the night to create this pitch. Chiara had given me a chance, and by Jove, I wasn’t letting this opportunity slip. I surveyed myself in my new pinstripe pantsuit. I’d gotten it for an outrageous price, but it was worth it because I looked official. It hugged my curves perfectly. Chiara had transferred some money to me, and I completed the rest with the tips I’d gotten from my customers during my night shift. After one last check on my mother, I clutched my shoulder bag and headed out. Running around to the back of my apartment where I’d chained my scooter to a pole, I unchained it and tried wheeling it out—only to find out I had a flat tire. I muttered a string of curses. “Of all days!” I whined. Without an alternative, I had to walk all the way to the train station in my h
~JAXON. I was yet to breathe a word of apology to her about the evening before Alexander stormed in,eager to know what had scared her. It's quite amusing to see him erratic about a woman other than Amelia. And Chiara had surprised me.She wasn't the kind of person I expected her to be, having hid in the room all through their banter . I followed Alexander out of the pink suite and into his suite.Throwing myself into a sofa,I lit a cigarette and offered Alexander another. He grudgingly took it.We puffed for a few minutes in silence, staring into space. " Next time you should punch me harder.Youbpunch like a lactating female." Alex barked a laugh. He sobered and snorted. "If that's your idea of an apology,Try harder." I made a restless movement with my fingers.Aplogies never seated well with me but if it meant my relationship with Alex on the line,Darn it all to hell. Alexander was all I had in the way of a personal relationship. "I just didn't want to watch you mov
~Chiara.“I can’t believe you had the audacity,” I muttered, finally letting myself explode. We were in his mansion now.sorry scratch that-fortress.Everywhere smelt of money and everything exuded wealth and so was the security.JESUS,every room as far as I could see from the hallway had some kind of biometric sensor.Alexander’s lips quirked, but there was no humor in his eyes. “There's no use to you challenging me. Least of all after I've moved most of your stuff after all we wouldn't be in this if it wasn't for your traipsing around with Jaxon.”I swallowed hard , clenching my fists to control my anger“Amd who's the blame for that, huh? When you just conveniently forgot to mention your twin brother when you introduced your whole family to me in absentia” My voice faltered. “I don't want to be in the middle of your family drama and I want my own life ,my own family.”“You’re in it whether you like it or not,” he said, his hand tightening slightly on the . “We need to present a more u
~Chiara The sound of the fist connecting with Jaxon’s jaw made me flinch as if someone had slammed my own face. Time slowed for a fraction of a second. My stomach twisted, my hands fell to my sides. “Jaxon!” I shouted, stepping towards him instinctively to help h up—but Alexander was already there about to throw another punch. "Alex!!! Wait... What do you think you're doing!?" I yelled and stood in front of him. Blocking his access to Jaxon. I didn't understand what was going on. I looked at Alexander. He was seething. His eyes had gone almost dark with fury. "Step out of the way ,Chiara." He grated out of his teeth. I felt Jaxon stand up behind him and just like that I was trapped between two alpha billionaire males. “Alex—what are you—” Jaxon tried to speak but broke off as soon as Alexander needled him with his gaze. Alexander’s gaze swung to me, sharp and assessing, and my heart lurched. I’d never seen him this close up, this furious. And I got the impress
