The office door was already opened and I entered. What I saw made my chest boil. Jacob was seated on his chair and there was a girl there straddling him, with her hands locked in his hair. She was the daughter of our old Beta.
But why did she have her hands on my mate?!
“Jacob!”
He saw me in the doorway, and his expression changed.
“You know what? I was wrong about you. I shouldn't even have bothered” My voice was weak and cracked from all my crying. I stormed out of the office, and Jacob followed me.
“Iris, Iris wait”
“No! Because I had this image in my head of who I thought you were but you're the exact opposite. You reject me and you have another woman in your hands a few hours later”
A crowd had begun to form around us, and Selene, the beta's daughter, also came out. She had a devious smile on her face.
“Oh… she's your mate that you rejected?” She spoke deliberately loud, for everyone to hear. I looked around me as people murmured.
“She really thought she could be the Alpha's mate?” I heard someone remark.
I felt completely humiliated. Now the whole pack knew I'd been rejected by the Alpha. Once again I was just a pathetic little girl.
A part of me still hoped that, deep down, Jacob cared enough to stand up for me, but I was mistaken. He just stood there, looking down at me like he didn't even know me.
“I hate you, Jacob. So very much”
I turned around to run but some held me back.
“Hey, I heard you've turned 18 now, are you still a wolfless runt?” One person asked.
“Your father will definitely disown you now,” another said as I struggled against their hold
“Hey! If your father kicks you out, you can come to stay with me and keep me company”
I turned around to stare at Jacob with tears in my eyes, but he seemed unaffected.
“Let me go!” I yelled, pulling myself away from the crowd as I continued to run.
My head was in disarray by the time I reached home. I was sore, sweaty and heartbroken. I curled up on my bed as my body was shaken with my tears.
How could Jacob have stood there and watched some be humiliated and ridiculed like that? I'd told him I hated him, but I didn't think I could muster the strength to do that. While I was still shedding tears, my mother came into my room.
“Iris? What's wrong?” She came to sit beside me on the bed. I wrapped my hands around her as I began to sob more and more.
“I found my mate, and he… he… he rejected me, mum. He didn't want me,” I cried my heart out to her as Jacobs's words continued to replay in my head. How could I complete him if I wasn't even complete myself?
“Oh, honey… I'm so sorry” She caressed my hair as I let out all my tears and my pain.
“Who was it? Your mate?”
“It was Alpha Jacob”
My mother pulled away, looking alarmed. Before she could speak, my father walked in with a stern expression.
“So you went and let yourself be mated to my enemy and what worse is he rejected you? You pathetic girl!”
My father grabbed me, dragging me out of the room by my hair.
I screamed and struggled but it wasn't enough. My mother's pleas were becoming lost to me as I felt myself begin to fade away. My father let go of me finally before he slapped me again.
“You're useless. That man must feel so proud of himself after completely humiliating this family…” My father hit me again. He was unleashing his own rage on me.
“Ragnar, stop it!” my mother screamed, holding him back, but he pushed her away, and she fell back.
My father kicked me again and again.
“No son of mine would've been so completely useless. All you have brought us is shame and embarrassment. Enough. I've arranged your marriage with the Lycan King. He'll come for you tomorrow and I'll finally be rid of you”
“W-what? The Beast Lycan?” I stuttered; my father's words hit me like a block of ice.
“Precisely. He could kill you like his other wives for all I care. Good riddance”
My father looked at me one last time, his eyes filled with disgusted contempt before he walked out of the house.
My mother rushed to my side with tears in her eyes.
“I'm so sorry Iris… your father told me last night, there was nothing I could do”
I was frozen in place as my life flashed before my eyes. The Lycan king was termed the beast Lycan because of his infamous reputation. He'd been married five times and all his wives had gone missing within months. The rumors were that he was cursed and he'd killed them, or worse, eaten them.
I couldn't believe my father hated me enough to practically sell me to the beast. Was this how my life would end prematurely?
“I'm not going to get married,” I said in a low voice, and I meant it. I'd been weak for too long, let people walk over me and insult me. Enough.
I wasn't going to sit back and allow my father to sign me the death penalty. I'd rather elope than wait for that to happen.
“There's nothing we can do dear… The man will arrive to take you by noon tomorrow.”
“I won't be here by then”
“What do you mean?” I didn't say anything more to my mother as I rose off the ground, holding back the grunt of pain from my father's beating.
I locked myself in my room all day. Didn't eat, didn't leave. I busied myself with packing some essential items. Some money, a few clothes and some other important items. I had to travel light so I wouldn't get caught easily.
I waited for my father to come back and go to bed then I left the house. I ran through the estate, making sure no one would see me. By the time I made it out of the gates, I felt relieved, saved. I didn't know where I would go, but anywhere was better than my pack, where I was unappreciated.
I walked through the forest, wishing my father had been kind enough to get me a car for easier transportation. I just hoped it wouldn't take me too long to reach the nearest pack.
My pack was a bit more Conservative. We'd chosen to live away from most packs and we still followed a lot of old customs and traditions. It was expected, considering the old Alpha is someone who beats his wife and daughter and is still depressed because he didn't have a son, considering that it was his genes that decided that.
I'd travelled for what felt like a few hours, and I sat back against a tree to rest for a bit. My body was still sore. I opened a bottle of water and drank it. I closed my eyes for a bit; soon, I started to hear some rustling. I ignored it at first but it got louder and closer.
I stood up with my bag, looking around me. Then I saw a group of people coming out from the bushes. There were three men and one woman. Immediately, I knew they were rouges.
“Well, what do we have here?” The woman said as they approached me slowly.
“Are you lost little birdie?”
I was greatly outnumbered. There was only one thing I could do.
Run.
I ran like I'd never run before. It didn't matter that I had a small bag of things with me. I was running for my life. Rouges did unspeakable things to other wolves. I didn't want to be a victim. I felt them hot on my tail and I knew they enjoyed hunting me down. “We just want to play… don't run, birdie”, I heard them yell from behind me. I didn't look back; I just kept going, and soon, I made it out of the forest and reached the roads. But it was early in the morning and the roads were deserted. “Nowhere to run”, I heard the dreaded voices of the rogues behind me. I couldn't even shift to escape them because I didn't have a wolf, a reality that hit me harder now when I most needed it.They shifted into their wolf forms, and it was scary to watch their big forms approaching me with blood-red eyes and gnarly teeth. I started to run along the road again, hoping, praying for something to happen as they stalked slowly behind me. Just then, I saw the headlights of a car and it stoppe
Iris's POV“I’ll show you why they call me the beast Lycan.” His deep, cold voice resonated.I could see fear flash in my father's eyes as he gritted his teeth and stared at me with hate-filled eyes.Lucian still held my father's hand, and from the expression on his face, he was in pain. The sound of bones cracking filled the place, and my father screeched in pain.“Argggh!” He yelped as he staggered.Mum rushed out of the house with worry in her eyes. She stared in confusion at the scene before her.“You hit my future wife with those hands. Today, I’ll make sure you don't get to use them for a long time.” He said, his voice dripping with malicious intent.I watched as he walked towards my father, noting how long his legs were.“Azariel,” Lucian called out, and I wondered who he was referring to.Someone stepped out of the frontseat of the car; his driver. He gave off an eerie vibe, as a strong aura surrounded him. Half of his face was covered with his hair. He had cold, silvery eyes
Iris's POVI gulped at his words, he didn't look like he was joking. My gaze locked with Jacob’s for a split second, and I tore my eyes away immediately. I didn't want to think of him anymore. The more I did, the more pain I felt. His words kept playing in my head, “By the moon goddess, I reject you, Iris Greywell, as my mate.”My eyes shut tightly as I tried to push those memories aside. Lucian gently placed me in the car and covered my shoulders. There was silence as the car moved. I was leaving home and getting married soon to someone who wasn't my mate. This was something I never expected nor wished for.All my life, I had prayed to get my own wolf and a mate who would love me. Well, I had gotten the mate, but alongside it came another package: rejection.I couldn't help but chuckle at how pathetic my life was. I would also soon end up missing and dead, like all his wives. Thinking of this, I subtly looked at Lucian. He laid on the seat, with his hands on his forehead; he was pro
Lucian’s POVI sat with my eyes closed, with no thought in mind except for the little woman who sat next to me. I could see her giving me subtle glances, thinking I was asleep.Earlier, I had massaged her forehead but she ruined the moment with her questions. Right from when we met, I knew there was more to her than what others saw.She shifted uncomfortably on the seat, I could tell she had more questions to ask as her green eyes were filled with curiosity. Obviously, I knew the question she had in mind: my missing wives.Different rumours had spread far and wide about my wives that had gone missing, but I didn't care what was said about me. But one thing was sure: she was mine to protect.Weeks back when her father had offered her to me, I thought nothing of it. But after seeing her during the rogue attack, I couldn't explain the sudden urge to protect her.I was blinded by rage when I saw the scars inflicted on her by her father. If I could have my way, I would have done worse to h
Iris’s POVI couldn't look at Lucian after what I had just done.“Shit.” I cursed silently.I remembered the feel of his chest under my palms and bit my lips hard to stop such thoughts from intruding.“We have arrived.” I heard him say.Azariel got down and unlocked the car. Stepping outside, I was wowed by the mansion that stood before me but I put on a neutral expression.I had never seen anyone like it. It was built in an ancient style unlike the common modern buildings I was used to seeing. The mansion looked like it was from another era, with its grand arched windows and their stained design which, cast colorful patterns on the surrounding area. The entrance door stood strong and firm, with its intricate designs of wolves and other mythical creatures.I was so engrossed in admiring the building that I didn't even notice when a man walked by. He looked to be in his late forties. He spoke with Lucian before walking towards me.“Milady, I'm elder Damon. It's a pleasure to meet the
Iris's POV “Don't be too shocked.” He chuckled.“How did you know?” I asked, shifting back such that we were inches apart.“Well…that's a story for another day. For now, just rest.” He said, patting my head like I was a kid, and for some reason, I couldn't tell him to stop.“See you later…Iris.” He drawled, smiling with his eyes twinkling.I returned the smile and stood in front of the door till his figure faded. Sighing, I pushed open the door and took a look at the room. It was stunning, as expected. A king-sized bed lay in the middle with pink fluffy pillows and blankets. The wall of the room was painted pink, even the wardrobe was pink. I wasn't much of a pink girl, so it irked me.I walked towards the wardrobe and opened it, I sucked in my breath. In it were both royal and modern dresses, all made by designers. I opened another part of the wardrobe, which was filled with different bags, and another contained jewelry and other necessities.“What the hell I’m I going to use all t
Lucian's POV“Why didn't you do anything to Nicolai?” Azariel asked as we walked.“He’s up to something. It would be a waste to let him die without knowing his plot. He introduced himself to Iris as Damon instead of Nicolai.” I muttered.“That bastard!” Azariel seethed.I looked at Azariel, he was one of my most composed comrades. The only time he lost his composure was when his brother, Ariel was involved in something.Ariel had been getting involved with Nikolai these days, and had been protecting him for some reasons. Well, it was I who instructed him to do so but I couldn't let Azariel know, at least not now.On a normal day, Nicolai would have been a corpse for daring to look at what was mine. I caught onto the way he was openly staring at her hips without hiding it, she definitely caught him too as I noticed her uncomfortable movement.Iris was slender, yet wide at the hips. The baggy trousers she wore did little to hide it. Nicolai was obviously up to something. First was his i
IrisI felt a bright light hit my face, and I sat up with a grunt. It was morning, and it seemed like the sun was perched right at my window.I sat up rubbing my eyes with one hand, and rubbing my forehead with the other. A panging headache gripped me as I recalled the events of the day before. The last thing I remembered were the butler's words, “No, milady, I'm a ghoul,” before I blacked out.The first thought that came to mind at that moment was to run, but instead, I passed out. How did I get back to my room? Was it the butler that brought me here?I shivered at the thought of him picking me up. Of course, I had the right to be scared; who wouldn't be? I was face to face with a freaking ghoul and I’d have to see him probably everyday.Ghouls are creatures that rob graves and feed on dead bodies. Maybe he eats the dead bodies of Lucian's wives after he kills them.“Shit! I have to get out of here.” I muttered.I should have expected this from someone like Lucian, with the reputatio
Lucian’s POV“They are back.” Ivan informed me as I trained.I hummed in response, and continued training. Dodging the bullets that came my way. There were several programmed machines, whose aim was to shoot out bullets. I was dodging each and every one of them without using my powers. I had quick reflexes, so I didn't find them quite hard. I imagined a situation whereby my powers were taken away from me, and I could only chuckle.Ariel had mentioned earlier that he was going to watch a fight at the black market. I knew Ariel too well to know that he got bored of those fights. So, he definitely had other intentions. He revealed that Vonn Averaj, the younger brother of Konstantin Averaj would be present at the fight.Vonn Averaj was a human, despite the fact that his brother was a god. Konstantin’s mother, who was a human, married another human after her first husband, who was a god, died. Vonn was their son, a step brother to Konstantin. He was known for his love for women, and his a
Iris's POV “What's wrong Rhea?” I whispered.“It's nothing, just slight pangs of headache.” She whispered back.“Which means you haven't required well, you should have stayed home till you got better.” I sighed.“I promise, I'm fine. Let's focus on this man here before he kills us with his suspicious stares.” She muttered.“Who are you? And what do you want from Konstantin? You don't really look like you’re from the brothel.” He sat up, his eyes alert.I could see his slowly reaching out for something in the pillow, he didn't trust us.“If you're this suspicious of us then why did you send those beautiful ladies out?” I asked, and he paused in his movement.“Yes, they are indeed beautiful. But they don't compare one bit to both of you, I thought you were high class brothel ladies prepared for me by as the champion. But with the question you asked, you aren't.” His eyes peered at us.“What should we do?” I whispered as we stuck together.“Ariel probably wants us to lure him or somethi
Iris's POV I froze on the spot, unable to look away as memories of the past came flooding. The beatings, the tellings, the whips. I trembled, unable to move.Meanwhile his lips slowly morphed into a smile, a taunting one. He realised he still had the effect on me, that I was still scared of him.“Hey! Move red hair what the hell are you standing there for?” A gruff voice pushed me to the side and I staggered. My father then lowered his hands to the belt he was, caressing it as if to remind me of the pain he had inflicted on me with them. It was like I blanked out, and I could only see him. What the fuck was wrong with me? I thought I had gotten stronger, I thought I would be able to face him someday without fear. But here I was, immobile and shaking like a leaf.“Stop it.” I muttered, repeatedly. His eyes never left mine, his taunting smile still present.“Iris! Look at me!” I heard a familiar voice snap, and felt a pair of hands on my shoulders that shook me rigorously.I shook my h
Iris's POV I sighed for the umpteenth time as I tried to push away memories of the incidents that had happened yesterday. I groaned at the remembrance of how I was easily flustered, when he was just trying to apply medicine to bruises that I had ignored. This was the second time this was happening, and it was all my fault. When he asked me to strip and threatened me with my mother, it turned that he was only trying to check if I was injured from what I told him.But my body had been reacting otherwise. I guess that's what you get for being a virgin all your life. A pang of guilt hit me as I thought of the words I said about his family.Honestly, I expected him to hit me or something but he didn't. Flashbacks of how he beat my father because he saw marks on my shoulders, came with full force. He saved me from the rogues when I tried to escape home, the floweries incident, he came to save me. To think of it, he had been my saviour anytime I got into a mess. Yet, I still couldn't stop b
Lucian’s POV Punching Lucian was the only way I could vent my anger and frustration. He enjoyed the beating as the mad person he was. He knew who Iris was, yet he had put on the perfect facade.I had asked her to strip not because I was angry at her or anything, but because I knew she'd be hurt. With what she explained to me, the cab driver would definitely have hurt her. The red lines on her face told it all, and I knew Lucian didn't hurt her.If only I had met him alive, he’d have preferred to be sent to hell. Iris said Lucian saved them, and I knew he’d have definitely killed the men.My blood boiled that they had the audacity to touch and hit her, and they got away with it by dying before I got to them. Maybe I shouldn't have asked her to strip, because when she did, it took a lot of fucking control to hold myself. I couldn't lie I felt sexually attracted to her, I had let her get to me.I had never been affected by any woman this way. I had known it would get to something like
Iris’s POV I rubbed my ears to see if I had heard wrong, but from the look in his eyes, he wasn't joking.“I won’t repeat my words, and if I do, I promise you'll hate me more than you do.” I heard him say, and I gritted my teeth.“You're kidding me.” I seethed.Who the hell did he think he was to order me around? Do I look like some kind of stripper? If he needed one, he should go to a club; I don't care.I’d had enough, taking one deep breath, I rose from the bed and made my way towards the door. But on getting to the door, I halted, turning to face him.“Look, I’ve explained everything to you. I don't get why you're still…pissed or whatever. What else do you want? I’m sorry if….I made you worry, that's if you even did.” I muttered.“I didn't try to escape.” I added, but he still said nothing, his cold eyes watching me.I sighed, before reaching out for the door handle to unlock it.“If you dare step out of that door…I’m afraid your parents' life would not remain the same.” He said
Iris's POV My heart thumped rapidly, that I feared those in the room could hear it. I sat, glued to the seat without being able to make any movement. Lucian stood by the door, staring into my soul with those cold blue eyes. The mad king on the other hand, didn't seem ready to leave. I was screwed, he had definitely misunderstood and with the way he was looking at me, he looked like he would tear me apart at any moment soon. The plan was to explain everything to the mad king, so that if the search party got here, Lucian would understand. But instead, Lucian had found me first.“I can explain.” The words jumped out from my mouth as Lucian took a step forward.Still locking gazes with me, each step was like a death sentence to me. He stood in front of me, his height towering. Then he withdrew his gaze and now faced Lucian, the mad king.I was in between them, feeling so damn uncomfortable. Looking at them up close, they were the same height. But Lucian, my nightmare seems to be slightly
Lucian’s POV My brows furrowed, as I clenched my fists. Her scent that I perceived in the car boot earlier, wasn't a mistake or a coincidence, she was indeed in the boot. Which meant she had probably tried to escape along with her new friend.“What's wrong Lucian? What did Ivan tell you?” Azariel asked upon noticing my quietness.“Let's go back to the council, now.” I muttered.I would visit Konstantin later, but now; finding Iris was more important. Maybe it was because I went a little easy on her the last time she attempted to escape, and now she thought she could do it freely. If only she knows….When I find her, I’d have to teach her a good lesson so she wouldn't dare assume for once that I was a good girl. That's the thing with people, you show them a little leniency, and they’d take it for granted.I dashed out of the shack, walking to the car with Ariel and Azariel behind me. This time, I drove by myself, rage coursing through my veins. I was sure she didn't escape to her home
“Well, well, well. Look who we have here, what a coincidence.” She smiled. “Aren't you meant to be at your pack now?”“It's a long story.” I muttered as I explained everything to her, from how the cab driver brought us here to how he attacked us with his men, and finally Lucian, the mad king coming to save us and how we got to the hospital.“It's understandable that Lucian killed those men, he can't stand the likes of them. But he let his driver bring you and your friend to his hospital? That's new.” She looked surprised.“He has definitely caught interest in one of you, or both of you; maybe.” She laughed lightly but I wasn't finding it funny. He was interested in who?I subconsciously imagined the scene of him flaying his wife, and it was enough to send shivers down my spine.“Thank you for the information. I’ll immediately leave with Rhea.” I muttered quickly and she burst out laughing.“You really are as quick as a horse. Is that how much you're scared of him? Don't worry, he won'
