FAZER LOGINISADORA'S POV.
If Rafael took another step toward me, I knew I would tell him everything.
I pressed my back against the wall, but he continued closing the distance between us.
I told myself to keep silent, but the look in his eyes said that he finally lost his patience.
"You need to stop running from me, Isadora,"Rafael said, stepping right up to me and grabbing my wrist.
"I am not running from you,"I lied, pulling my hand away from him as I decided to stand my ground and look him in the eyes as I refused to let him know how his presence affects me.
"You think this is all about a stupid business contract, but you have no idea what you are getting into,"Rafael said in a quiet tone.
"I know exactly what I am doing,"I said, lying once again.
"No, you do not,"Rafael said, squeezing my hand so that I would not try to escape again as he leaned in, and I saw the fear in his eyes for the first time.
Then I realized that he was not trying to scare me but was worried that I would put myself in danger.
"Your father is going to ruin you if you stay here tonight,"Rafael said, stepping right up to my face.
"Oh fuck that! He cannot do anything to me that he has not already tried,"I said defiantly still looking sternly at him.
"He is going to do something far worse than take your company, and I cannot let you walk into that,"Rafael said with his voice shaking slightly.
I hesitated a bit, torn between believing him and wanting to protect myself.
At first, I wanted to trust him, but I had been burned too many times. So immediately, I pushed him in the chest, putting some distance between us.
"Wait! Why do you even care what happens to me?"I asked, studying his face.
"Because I cannot stand the thought of him hurting you again,"Rafael said, brushing some hair away from my face.
"Oh well, oops! Im I interrupting something personal?"Rosalind asked, walking around the corner with a fake smile on her face as we both turned and faced her unaware that someone has intruded.
I immediately pulled away from Rafael, putting more distance between us and decided to pretend that nothing was happening, smoothing my dress over my hands.
"We were just finishing up a private discussion,"I said, meeting Rosalind's eyes.
"Well, the keynote presentation is starting now, and Rafael needs to be on stage with me,"Rosalind said, walking over to him and putting her hand on his shoulder as she looked at me with cold eyes, silently telling me that he belonged to her.
"You should really go back to your seat, Isadora, before security asks you to leave,"Rosalind said coldly with her voice dripping with venom.
I saw the evil look on her face and realized that she wanted me to leave the family business for good.
"I will leave when I am ready to leave,"I said, standing my ground.
"Oh please honey, do not make a scene here, Isadora,"Rosalind said, pulling Rafael by his jacket toward the main hall.
"I am not making a scene, but I am not taking orders from you either,"I said, meeting her gaze until she looked away.
Rafael looked at me over his shoulder, silently telling me something with his eyes, but he ultimately walked away with Rosalind.
I watched him leave, and immediately a part of me died, but I swallowed my pride and held my head high as I knew that I could not keep relying on him to protect me.
Then, I turned around and was about to walk away when suddenly someone grabbed my elbow from behind.
I gasped and spun around, ready to fight whoever it was and behold, it was Aunt Katie, who stood before me with her face pale, and her eyes darting around the empty hallway."Shh! Now listen to me, you have to take this right now and do not let anyone see it,"Aunt Katie said, shoving a small silver keycard into my palm.
I looked down at my hand, seeing the cold plastic with a small slip of paper attached to it.
"What is this?"I asked, closing my hand around the card so that no one could see it.
"It is the key to the old Fenwick estate in Segovia,"Aunt Katie said, her voice shaking with panic.
"Why are you giving me this now?"I asked with my heart pounding in my chest.
"Your father is driving down there early tomorrow morning to burn all of Rosalind's old medical records,"Aunt Katie said, stepping closer to me as my stomach turned at her words.
I had to decide what to do next. Either to go home and pretend that none of this was happening, or I could risk everything and go to Segovia tonight.
"If those files are destroyed, you will never be able to prove what he did to her or how he stole you both identity"Aunt Katie said, gripping my shoulder tightly.
"I cannot just break into his private estate,"I said, struggling with the decision.
"You have to decide right now if you want the truth or if you want to remain a victim,"Aunt Katie said, looking me in the eyes.
I stood in the silent hallway, gripping the small keycard in my palm as the noise from the ballroom drifted away and I knew that going to Segovia meant that I would commit a crime against my own family.
I knew that if my father caught me on his private property, he would most likely lock me up forever, just like he did to Rosalind.
I looked at Aunt Katie and took a deep breath again before making my final decision. "I will go to Segovia tonight,"I said, slipping the keycard into my pocket.
"Go right now through the side exit before Peter sends his security team to follow you,"Aunt Katie said, pushing me toward the service door.
I turned my back to the ballroom and all the lies, choosing to walk away from my reputation, my money, and my safety all dawned on me.
I pushed the heavy exit door open and stepped out into the cool night air, knowing that I could never return home again.
ISADORA’S POVRafael grabbed my waist on the dark balcony and kissed me until my legs could not hold my weight anymore. We fell asleep holding each other tight, ready to face the war that was coming the next day. When I woke up at six o'clock in the morning, the bright sunlight was coming through the big window, and the room was very quiet.I turned my head to look for Rafael, but his side of the bed was empty, and his shoes were gone from the floor.I sat up on the bed quickly, wrapping the sheet around my body as fear returned to my chest and I stood up and walked toward the bathroom, but the door was wide open, and nobody was inside.I walked over to the small wooden table near the door, and I saw a white paper lying right beside my purse.I picked up the white paper with my shaking hands and read the words written in big black ink.It was a handwritten note from my sister Rosalind.I stepped out of our car outside the big auction house in Marbella. Valentina had invited all the r
ISADORA’S POVRafael stood in front of me with his mouth completely shut, refusing to tell me the truth about the secret contract that gave my sister power over his life.I looked at the small gold ring sitting in my open palm, and the deep pain in my chest turned into hot anger as I stepped toward the big window and threw the ring out into the darkness with all the strength in my right arm. The small gold band vanished into the night, and my heart felt like it was breaking into a thousand small pieces. I turned back to face Rafael, wiping my wet face with the back of my hand so he would not see me cry anymore."You are a coward, Rafael," I said, pointing my finger at his pale face as my legs trembled under my weight.Rafael then took a fast step toward me and grabbed both of my hands in his warm palms. "I am not a coward, Isadora," he said, holding my fingers tight while his eyes filled with tears. "I am keeping quiet because I am trying to save your life and your family from total
ISADORA’S POv"You think that simple gold ring on your finger makes you a real wife, Isadora?" Rosalind spat, as she clapped her hands together with a dry laugh that sent cold fear straight down my spine.I pulled my hand back slowly against my stomach, and my skin felt ice cold while my sister took two heavy steps closer to where I sat."I sold those shares to Valentina because you deserve to lose every single thing you own," Rosalind said, as she pointed her fingers straight at my me while her eyes burned with dark hatred."You have always been weak and stupid, and you think Rafael truly wants you for who you are," she continued, and she looked down at my face with total disgust. My throat closed up tightly, and tears pooled under my eyelids while her cruel words tore through my remaining confidence.I looked up at Rafael because I wanted him to step in and shut her mouth, but he stood completely still beside the bed with his hands clenched into tight fists."Get out of our room rig
ISADORA’S POVMy father Peter stood in the middle of the big room with a wide smile on his face as he held the signed paper high in the air and looked at Rafael and me like he had won a grand prize. Valentina stepped closer to Rafael with her head held up, expecting him to smile and accept the deal she made with my sister."Now we own this estate together, Rafael," Valentina said, taking a step toward him as my stomach turned upside down with fear.Rafael did not look at the paper in my father's hand, and he did not smile at Valentina at all either. He took my hand, stepped forward, and placed himself between Valentina and me."I will never do any business with you, Valentina," Rafael said, looking directly into her eyes as my chest expanded with sudden relief.Valentina stopped moving, and the smile on her face disappeared completely."What are you talking about, Rafael?" she asked, reaching out her hand to touch his arm as my mouth grew dry. "I did this for us so we can control eve
ISADORA’S POVThe text message from Valentina showed a photo of Rafael sleeping in her bed while I was lying alone in his apartment.I dropped his phone onto the mattress because my hands were shaking so much, and I could not breathe properly. My mind was spinning with terrible thoughts as I looked at the dark screen lying on the sheets. I gave him my body and my heart last night, but he still went back to his ex-fiancée the moment I closed my eyes. So much pain cut through my chest so deep that I had to sit on the floor for a few minutes just to hold my knees together.I told myself that I would not stay in his house to cry like a weak person. I stood up immediately, put on my clothes quickly, and grabbed my small bag from the table as I left his apartment without making any noise, and I entered my car to drive down to our family estate in Segovia. The rain was falling heavily from the sky, washing over my front glass as I drove fast on the dark road with my eyes full of tears, but
ISADORA’S POVI opened my eyes at dawn and felt the cold sheet beside me where Rafael was supposed to be sleeping. It all started when I was so angry after Valentina stood on that stage in Madrid and told everyone about the joint takeover of my family estate. Then immediately after the gala night, I drove straight to Rafael’s penthouse apartment without waiting for him to explain anything at the gala. I let myself inside the big door using my old code, and I stood in the middle of his sitting room waiting for him to arrive. When Rafael walked inside the apartment and closed the door, I did not waste any time at all as I confronted him immediately."Give me the private keys to my family estate right now," I said, stepping directly into his path as my hands shook with anger.Rafael pulled off his black suit jacket and threw it onto the couch. "I am not giving you any keys tonight, Isadora," he said, stepping toward me as my breath hitched in my throat."You lied to me again," I said, po
